Chapter 88 · Volume 1

The God King's Shock

Just as Lilith was preparing to leave the white-robed god's palace, the sky suddenly darkened.
The entire sky seemed to be covered by an invisible curtain; the light faded rapidly, the temperature plummeted, and even the air turned freezing cold.
A suffocatingly powerful surge of energy rippled from the void, sweeping through the palace like a tsunami.
Lilith frowned and looked up at the sky.
In her eyes, the palace dome was as transparent as glass. She could clearly see a rift tearing open in the void, and a figure slowly stepping out.
It was a middle-aged man wearing golden robes, with a majestic countenance and deep eyes. His hair was pure white-gold, flowing over his shoulders.
He held a scepter in his hand, topped with a fist-sized golden gemstone that radiated a soft but undeniable light.
With every step he took, ripples spread through the void beneath his feet, as if the entire world were making way for him.
The God King.
The name flashed through Lilith's mind.
Though she had never met him, in the entire God Realm, only that one individual could possess such overwhelming pressure and presence.
The God King descended onto the plaza in front of the palace, his gaze sweeping over Lilith before finally settling on her.
His eyes were calm, but beneath that calm lay a bottomless scrutiny.
“A demon?”
He spoke. His voice wasn't loud, yet it reached everyone's ears with an unquestionable authority.
Lilith nodded.
“Yes, I'm a demon. What of it?”
The God King's brow furrowed slightly.
He had seen many demons... but this one was the first who could remain so composed while standing in the heart of the God Realm, facing the God King himself.
“What is your relationship with the demon from last time?”
The God King asked slowly. His voice remained calm, but the latent pressure caused the surrounding space to warp slightly.
“And what is your purpose for coming to the God Realm?”
Lilith smiled.
“Ah, the demon from last time.”
She tilted her head, a hint of amusement flashing in her red eyes.
“You mean Orosius? He was my subordinate. I've already killed him.”
The God King: “...?”
The expression on his face froze for a moment.
Though he quickly regained his composure, Lilith caught that split second of shock.
Stormy waves surged in the God King's heart.
Orosius?
The demon who had nearly overturned the God Realm?
Was the subordinate of this female demon before him?
And... he was killed?
The God King took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.
“You say... Orosius was your subordinate?”
“That's right,” Lilith nodded.
The God King stared at Lilith for a few seconds before suddenly speaking:
“So, you are the Demon King?”
Lilith blinked.
“How did you know?”
The God King didn't answer, but the grim realization in his mind became clearer and clearer.
The Demon King.
The ruler of the Demon Realm, a being on the same level as the God King.
No wonder she could kill Orosius.
No wonder she could be so calm in the God Realm.
No wonder...
He tightened his grip on his scepter, a trace of solemnity flashing in his golden eyes.
If this female demon truly was the Demon King, then things had become troublesome.
The Demon King personally descending upon the God Realm was no small matter.
Though the God Realm and Demon Realm usually had no dealings, they had always maintained a delicate balance. The Demon King's personal arrival meant this balance might be broken.
Furthermore, her purpose for coming here...
Just as the God King was about to ask, Lilith spoke first.
“As for my purpose in the God Realm...”
She looked at the God King with a smile, a glint of cunning in her red eyes.
“It is, of course, for the secret of the World-Devouring Sword.”
The God King frowned.
“What does that sword have to do with the God Realm?”
Before Lilith could answer, a whistling sound came from the distance.
The white-robed god flew out of the palace and landed before the God King, dropping to one knee.
“Greetings, Your Majesty the God King.”
The God King glanced at him and nodded.
“Rise.”
The white-robed god stood up, walked to the God King's side, and whispered a few words.
His voice was very low, but Lilith heard him clearly.
“Your Majesty, that sword... may be related to Genesis.”
The God King's pupils constricted.
“Genesis?”
“Yes,” the white-robed god nodded. “The aura on the sword is identical to Genesis's. Furthermore, according to Her Majesty the Demon King... the records of the Demon Realm state that the sword was forged through the fusion of divine blood and a Void Godstone.”
The God King fell silent for a few seconds before looking at Lilith.
“Is what you say true?”
“Absolutely,” Lilith said, spreading her hands. “That's what the notes left by the former Demon King say. As for the specifics, I'm not entirely sure either, which is why I came to the God Realm to investigate.”
The God King stared at her for a long time, seemingly gauging the truth of her words.
Lilith wasn't in a hurry; she just stood there, letting him look.
She was telling the truth anyway, so she wasn't afraid of scrutiny.
After a long while, the God King spoke slowly:
“Follow me.”
He turned and walked toward the depths of the palace.
Lilith arched an eyebrow and followed.
The white-robed god followed behind them as well.
...
Deep within the palace, in a study.
The God King walked to a desk, sat down, and pointed to the chair opposite him.
“Sit.”
Lilith didn't stand on ceremony; she sat down and looked around.
The God King pulled a thick ancient tome from the shelf and opened it.
“There are many records concerning Genesis in the God Realm,” he said while flipping through the pages.
“But most are legends, difficult to distinguish as true or false. The only thing certain is that Genesis did indeed disappear a very long time ago. The God Realm searched for him for tens of thousands of years but found nothing.”
He paused and looked up at Lilith.
“Are you certain that sword was forged from divine blood?”
“I'm not certain,” Lilith answered honestly. “I'm only speculating based on the records of the former Demon King. However, the aura on the sword is indeed very similar to that of the god race, and...”
She looked at the white-robed god.
“This god was stabbed by the sword; he should be able to feel its aura.”
The white-robed god nodded.
“Yes. The aura on the sword is identical to Genesis's. I wouldn't mistake it.”
The God King fell silent for a moment, then closed the ancient tome.
“If that is truly the case, then this is a serious matter.”
He stood up, walked to the window, and looked out.
His expression was very grim.
