“What terrifying creatures. They actually routed the demons.”
The young elf girl watched with her own eyes as the fearless Zerg swarm charged into the enemy lines like madmen, piercing through their formation like a sharp blade.
The thousand-strong force of demons was utterly powerless against the 250 Zerg.
However, there were still many enemies remaining in the rear.
The forces currently besieging the city were merely their vanguard.
During the battle, some of the Zerg had already tried tasting the flesh of the demons. After confirming that it could provide a large amount of ordinary energy, Xia Jin knew she could profit from this conflict.
Meanwhile, at the border of the Glowing Forest, Vigaya delivered the twenty-five kilograms of mithril she required.
“Your credibility earns the respect of the elven race,” Vigaya said with a solemn expression as she handed over the mithril.
“Likewise. It is a pleasure doing business with you.”
Ellie accepted the mithril on behalf of the Zerg Queen and returned to the vicinity of the hive.
“Well done.”
Storing the materials away, Xia Jin smiled faintly before shifting her focus to the eastern front.
Over the next two days, the branch hive in that area completed its upgrade, successfully reaching Level 3.
Soon after, reinforcements arrived, and a main legion consisting of 4,500 Zerg was officially formed.
Under Xia Jin's command, the great army set out. Black zerglings took the lead, launching a charge into the vast forest further to the east.
The magic beasts along the way suffered heavy casualties.
Hundreds of drones followed behind, frantically devouring the remains of the beasts left in their wake.
Just as the army had advanced twenty kilometers, a force of green-skinned goblins appeared.
“You guys again.”
Seeing their arrogant and hideous faces, Xia Jin did not hesitate to order the Zerg to launch a surprise attack.
But the battle that followed made her realize that this goblin army was not so simple.
The number of enemies was beyond imagination.
After consecutively routing two units of a thousand soldiers each, an even larger goblin army organized a solid defensive line in the rear.
They had even deployed archers and prepared catapults to provide long-range fire against the charging Zerg. At close range, squads of soldiers holding bucklers and wielding sharp longswords formed tight phalanxes, blocking the way in front of the ranged units.
“They even know how to use tactics.”
Seeing such a disciplined army appearing before her, Xia Jin ordered the swarm to temporarily halt their advance.
The two sides entered a standoff in this direction.
The main goblin legion consisted of Tier 2 and Tier 3 units, with a Tier 4 powerhouse appearing for roughly every twenty individuals.
As for Tier 5 and Tier 6 units, they were extremely rare, with only one appearing for every thousand soldiers.
On the Zerg side, the zerglings were Tier 3 and the hydralisks were Tier 4; there were no higher-tier units present.
Although the Zerg held the overall advantage in combat, the cost of a direct assault against such a large number of enemies would be far too high.
“I might as well wait a few days for the hive to upgrade before launching the offensive.”
That was Xia Jin's thought, but the goblins clearly had no intention of giving her that chance. They actually organized a counterattack, attempting to drive away the invading swarm.
Faced with these audacious goblins, Xia Jin could only order the Zerg to teach them a bloody lesson.
Thus, the acid of 750 hydralisks became the core of their firepower.
The front-line zerglings blocked the enemy's advance at close range, while acid rained down from the rear like a torrential storm.
In an instant, the goblins were dazed by the assault.
Only then did they realize the caliber of the opponent they were facing. The army of thousands suffered a devastating blow almost instantly.
“Catapults, fire!”
The enemy commander was forced to order the ranged units in the rear to retaliate.
Before long, over a dozen boulders weighing fifty kilograms each flew hundreds of meters through the air, crashing into the zergling swarm.
Unfortunately, there were simply too few of them. With most of the zerglings successfully dodging, only a few were scratched by the bouncing stones, which was not enough to seriously impact their combat effectiveness.
And while the goblins' arrows had strong piercing power, they were little more than an itch to the zerglings. Even having dozens of arrows stuck in their bodies was not enough to kill them.
The battle lasted for twenty minutes. Seeing the army in front on the verge of collapse, the goblins in the rear sent an elite legion of fifty soldiers as reinforcements. All of them were Tier 4 or Tier 5, and they plunged into the zergling swarm to buy time for the main force to retreat.
The battle soon came to an end.
Both sides retreated one kilometer, maintaining their standoff.
Despite achieving a certain degree of victory, Xia Jin remained on guard as she watched more and more goblin main forces gathering in the distance from her elevated perspective.
“One legion has five thousand goblins, and there seem to be quite a few such legions.”
She seriously suspected that she had stumbled upon the goblin race's main nest.
The events that followed confirmed her suspicion.
About half an hour later, a Tier 5 goblin stepped to the front of the ranks and shouted, “Magic beasts ahead! The goblin race wishes to negotiate with you. Please send a representative forward!”
Xia Jin rubbed her chin and thought for a moment before letting a single zergling run up to the opponent.
“Where is your commander? You only sent a mere minion?” The other party's tone was exceptionally arrogant. “Fine then, go back and deliver a message for me. Any enemy who attempts to invade our Goblin Kingdom will suffer unimaginable losses. Tell your magic beast lord that the goblin race's army of a hundred thousand has long been prepared to resist to the end. Attacking us will bring you no benefit whatsoever.”
