Chapter 321 · Volume 1

The Fall of the Dawn Empire

The overseer continued to eavesdrop.
Xia Jin had ordered it to report back as soon as it heard any useful information.
Then...
After an entire day, information was finally extracted from the conversations.
To put it simply, this group of people were originally criminals of the Dawn Empire. They had discovered a starship that had been crashed in a primeval forest for an unknown number of years. After researching and learning how to operate it, the starship took off, and they escaped capture.
Once in space, these people lived a chaotic and disorganized life on board.
The massive stockpiles of supplies surprisingly had a shelf life of several thousand years, allowing them to live comfortably.
Returning to the surface was impossible; after all, they would be criminals the moment they landed.
But they were not content with just living like that forever.
So, they began considering utilizing the Dawn Church, which the Empire worshipped. Using various technologies on the starship that they did not fully understand, they established communication with the Pope and had one of the most beautiful women among them pose as the Goddess of Dawn.
In the storage room, they found strange serums. After injection, one could reach at least Tier 10, with the strongest among them indeed reaching Tier 10.
A device called an amplification instrument allowed a Tier 10 powerhouse to possess the strength of Tier 13—though in reality, they remained Tier 10.
In short, after all sorts of maneuvering, this group of people began playing god from a distance in space.
The interior of the starship mainly relied on solar energy to maintain operations, as they did not understand the engine systems or anything similar. These people knew nothing about nuclear fusion, so in their current situation, they absolutely did not dare to operate the controls recklessly.
Not long after they established themselves in space, the demons invaded.
By providing support to the humans on the ground, the people on the starship successfully seized the faith of the Goddess of Dawn and began to regard themselves as deities suspended in space.
As the eras changed, the people on the starship learned to use disassembly-style drop pods to rapidly transport people to the ground.
Even so, they only occasionally descended in the capacity of divine messengers.
After all, life on the starship was indeed quite pleasant.
...
Xia Jin, who was gradually coming to understand everything, was somewhat speechless.
“There is nothing to be afraid of anymore. As expected, they are not real aliens.”
Actually, she had a premonition from the start. Under normal circumstances, even if a legitimate starship encountered great difficulties, it would not be limited to such an extent.
While it was possible for equipment to be damaged and personnel to be forced into a nomadic existence, the performance of this fat rocket was indeed strange.
Looking at the current situation, this group of people had no way to deal with the Zerg.
They were a bit uneasy, but they had not realized that the Zerg could leave the ground and enter space.
After another week of fighting, the Zerg forces finally annihilated a vast number of Dawn Empire powerhouses and entered the innermost core area of the capital city.
Countless soldiers held their weapons, constantly retreating as they watched the slowly approaching Swarm.
Soon, a massive nydus worm burrowed out, and a young girl stepped from within.
“Will you still not accept surrender?”
She glanced at the people in the distance.
Seeing her rare silver-white hair, a man serving as the Great Sage leaned on his staff and spoke her true identity aloud: “Are you the Zerg Queen?”
“What do you think?”
“It seems it is just as I thought. Truly a legend. The dream that the Dawn Empire wanted to achieve no matter what has actually been realized through you. Although it relies on a group of foreign races, this power is indeed in your hands.”
“As long as you understand. We have fought to this point; anyone with a shred of conscience should surrender. Look at how many soldiers have died. No war in history has ever been this cruel, has it?”
So you actually know that.
The Great Sage muttered to himself.
He felt truly helpless; he had no way to deal with the girl before him.
In fact, he was the Empire's strongest powerhouse, a Tier 12 mage. But after hearing that Xia Jin had the strength to kill Tier 11 powerhouses, he did not believe he had the ability to defeat her.
“My Zerg are preparing to mobilize their main forces to attack the Abyss, so today is the last ultimatum. If you do not agree, the Zerg will launch a final general offensive. By then, the remaining three million people will all lose the chance to surrender.”
“You really are a devil,” the Great Sage said with a frown.
“Only the defeated are devils. The ultimate victor will always be the side of justice.”
Perhaps because he had come to terms with it, or perhaps because they had intended to surrender all along, the Dawn Empire finally capitulated.
This mad war had caused the deaths of nearly twenty-six million soldiers and over twenty million civilians within the Empire's borders.
Such ridiculous death tolls had occurred entirely within the last two months. In particular, the last twenty days accounted for the vast majority of them.
However, for a country that had a deity and where the civilians had been brainwashed on a large scale, the number of resistance fighters would not decrease even after the surrender.
In the time to follow, the Zerg would continue to harvest energy in this nation under the guise of clearing out resistance.
Until the number of resistance fighters infinitely approached zero.
That afternoon, at a massive long table in the Dawn Empire's palace, the top leaders of both sides sat across from each other and began signing an unconditional surrender agreement and an armistice treaty on paper.
This signified that the Zerg and the Empire's official government had formally ceased hostilities.
If the fighting continued afterward, it would be the spontaneous actions of the populace.
In truth, cosmic civilizations that had witnessed the Zerg of the past would find it hard to believe that this terrifying civilization would one day sit down and sign an agreement with anyone.
But such a thing had indeed happened.
The entire planet, except for the Mist-covered zone and the deep sea, had essentially fallen into the hands of the Zerg.
While large-scale battles remained, those were intentional actions by the Zerg.
The strategy devised to harvest geniuses was about to be implemented—the so-called population farming plan.
For now, the starting tier for harvesting was tentatively set at Tier 8.
