Chapter 320 · Volume 1

The Intercepted Message

“A total yield of eight hundred million tons of TNT.”
The brain bug provided the data.
“Eight hundred million tons... they have really lost it this time.”
The entire continent must be shaking, right?
Looking at the size of that fat rocket, after launching so many of those massive things, they probably do not have many left.
That was for the best.
That entire line from the northern Clear region to the southern Border Forest—an area of nearly four million square kilometers—was mostly ruined. It would not be suitable for life for a long time.
Of course, it was not a big problem for the Zerg, but being hit like that out of nowhere was still quite annoying.
“Damn.”
While frustrated, Xia Jin was also a bit anxious.
Her true body was still hiding in Clearwillow Lake. If they aimed one of those down here...
“Dig, dig! Ten kilometers down, then fill it back up. I am hiding in there.”
That depth would keep her safe even from a hundred million ton yield. Hiding in the scorching heat underground would be pure torture, but compared to staying alive, nothing else mattered.
The brain bug clearly agreed.
Some of the bugs beneath Clearwillow Lake began to excavate.
A hole wide enough for two people was dug into the ground.
Drones moved in and out, carrying out mouthfuls of soil.
Eventually, they hit rock.
Scans showed a magma layer twenty kilometers below Clearwillow Lake, so hiding ten kilometers down was perfectly safe for Xia Jin.
But she would have to endure temperatures of over 130 degrees.
With her current strength, 130 degrees felt like 45 degrees to a normal person. If she used some ice magic to cool down, it would feel just like normal.
She was actually at Tier 12 now, on the verge of breaking through to Tier 13.
Whether she could reach Tier 13 quickly depended on whether her projection in the Abyss was working hard enough.
The excavation was highly efficient. Ten hours later, Xia Jin reached the designated spot. Then, the bugs began to backfill.
They would not actually bury her, of course. They just left a large empty room for her to sit in and space out.
She would not get bored. Since her projections were doing things outside, it made no difference which body she used.
Lockdown mode, initiate!
To solve the problem of her cravings, the room was filled with pools of nutrient solution. The walls were made of reinforced creep walls to keep everything tasting fresh.
Soaking her feet in the nutrient solution while wearing white silks, Xia Jin could not help but have some wicked thoughts.
“Ahem, getting lewd thoughts about myself... this is ridiculous.”
...
The strike from the ten high yield hydrogen bombs was undoubtedly devastating to the Zerg.
Fortunately, the bugs in that area were dispersed, and most were burrowed underground. Those far enough from the blast centers survived.
Combined with the low density, the final death toll was fewer than five hundred thousand.
If the people above knew this, who knew what they would think.
Furthermore, it was obvious that the fat rocket had not realized the Zerg had left the ground and taken to space. Otherwise, they would have scanned the surrounding area and discovered the Zerg base on Insect Guard 1.
But even if they did look, with the current concealment levels of the bugs, it would be hard to spot anything without a very close inspection.
In short, one word... play it safe!
The hydrogen bomb attack had clearly failed, and the Zerg continued their siege of the Capital Province.
The enemy occasionally dropped a few more on the frontline Swarm, but the impact on the overall battle line was minimal.
Most ridiculously, over the next week, the scale of the Zerg did not decrease; it actually increased.
This situation undoubtedly made things difficult for the enemy in space.
Meanwhile, the people in the fat rocket did not know that after consulting with Brain Bug No. 1, Xia Jin had begun gene modifications on a single overseer. She spent a massive amount of resources to add powerful psionic detection equipment, intending to penetrate this ship, which seemed to have low level technology.
This method would not be very effective against a civilization with shields, but against something like the fat rocket, she might be able to see inside and even predict their communication through gas vibrations—assuming she could understand their language; otherwise, it would just be random vibrations.
After a day of work, the modification of the overseer was complete.
An invisible psionic wave was launched into the distance.
...
Inside the fat rocket.
In the main control room, on a chair.
A humanoid female sat there, her chin resting on her hand, her expression solemn.
There was almost no gravity in space, so even while in the chair, she had to be secured with buckles.
“This species called the Zerg has ruined our plans,” a man opposite her said.
“What do you think we should do now?”
“...”
After an abnormal silence, the woman finally sighed. “What a nuisance. I thought the demons were scary enough, but how are these guys even more ridiculous? Where did they come from? Could they really be from the stars?”
“My Lady, we certainly cannot go to the surface now. Perhaps we should stay on this ship forever. There is no place for us on the ground anymore anyway. Even if we cannot be the Goddess of Dawn, at least we can live out our lives happily up here.”
The woman nodded.
Xia Jin: “...”
She was a bit confused, but she also seemed to understand something.
These guys... were locals?
Not aliens?
If so, why were they on a ship like this?
