Chapter 279 · Volume 1

Killing the Demon Sentinels

“Demon sentinels?” Hearing this, the legion commander’s pupils trembled. He took a deep breath. “They are the cannon fodder of the demons. According to the Empire’s war records, these creatures have the strength of at least Tier 8 once they reach adulthood. A few powerful ones can even approach Tier 10. They are merely cannon fodder among demons.”
“Even the cannon fodder is that strong?”
Xia Jin muttered to herself.
“That is what they say, but if one reaches Tier 9, it is at least at the squad leader level. A Tier 10 can command a large group of sentinels; they would be considered elites.”
“Fine then.”
The world of demons was not a place she could not explore.
“The Abyss is on the other side, right? Let us go, everyone together.”
...
There was no other choice. For these soldiers, following Xia Jin’s orders was the only path forward.
Soon, everyone crossed the passage.
Naturally, the soldiers went through first.
This was to prevent the remaining men from running away after Xia Jin crossed over.
Once everyone had arrived at the other side and Xia Jin saw that it was safe, she stepped through the entrance and arrived at the other end.
“This environment is alright.”
In an instant, she looked around at her new surroundings.
The sky was gloomy, and the ground was a dark brown, looking extremely barren.
There were no plants at all, only rolling land stretching to the horizon.
Looking to the side, she saw several similar teleportation gates built on the ground.
These gates looked different from the ones on the other side; they were pure black, though otherwise basically the same.
Xia Jin noticed that she was currently in a high altitude area.
It was like being on a cliff. Standing here and looking into the distance, she could see the ground hundreds of meters below stretching out to the far horizon.
Although the biological density was not high, she could vaguely see some demon like creatures within it.
“They are different from the demons in my memories.”
Her concept of demons was the Western fantasy DND type, with strange and grotesque appearances.
But the demons of this world looked stalwart and domineering.
“I wonder if there are any succubi.”
Xia Jin really wanted to know if her charm would exceed theirs if she met one.
“Why am I so confident?”
She suddenly felt that the idea of trying to surpass a succubus was quite ridiculous. Since when did she develop a competitive spirit in a place like this?
While she was thinking, a demon sentinel dozens of meters away noticed them.
The creature seemed to freeze for a moment before letting out a roar and charging straight at them.
The demon sentinel looked like a human with a giant tail. Its build was much sturdier, and its body was covered in thick scales.
Seeing it approach, the legion commander immediately swung his weapon.
Whoosh!
A Tier 9 aura erupted. The sharp blade in his hand instantly produced a sonic boom, directly hitting the demon.
Terrifying power passed through its body. The demon sentinel stumbled back a few steps, suddenly let out a miserable scream, and its body exploded with a bang.
“Not bad.”
This legion commander had some skill. That strike just now did not seem to have much wide range destructive power, but the damage was actually very high, beyond that of an ordinary Tier 9.
However, the commotion quickly attracted other nearby demons.
Several of them glanced at each other, seemingly confirming that these were enemies, and charged over as well.
In a similar battle, the targets were killed.
This time, several other warriors also took action. Xia Jin discovered that the weakest among them was Tier 6—and there were two of those—while the rest started at Tier 7, with three at Tier 8.
“It seems the Empire’s method of strengthening power through drugs is indeed very effective.”
With such high quality soldiers, it was a good thing they were not fighting a kingdom like the Kingdom of Clear. Otherwise, it was hard to say if the total inferiority in individual martial power and equipment would lead to national destruction within a few days.
After the few demons were dealt with, Xia Jin walked up. Her hands suddenly turned into flesh, and under the shocked gazes of the human warriors, she swallowed the demon corpses.
“Hmm, there is some strange pollution that makes one’s consciousness irritable, but the impact on me is zero.”
Under the psionic impact, the negative emotions vanished instantly.
“Demons do indeed cause problems with a person’s sanity. Even Tier 9 warriors cannot fight them for too long,” the legion commander said.
Xia Jin nodded.
Digestion was quickly completed, eventually turning into a strange energy that surged through her body.
【You have obtained 0.02 units of concentrated energy.】
【Concentrated energy is a special energy converted from high-energy crystals. It has higher intensity. It takes 100 units of top quality high-energy crystals to convert into 1 point of concentrated energy. It can help the Queen strengthen her body and spirit more quickly.】
“Whew.”
Hearing the message from Brain Bug No. 1, Xia Jin’s heart skipped a beat.
Demons... Aren’t they the perfect thing to make the Zerg stronger?
