“Oh?”
Elias's movement of tightening his bathrobe suddenly paused.
“Advancement?”
As those two words came out, his eyes instantly lit up.
Elias followed up with a series of questions.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Give me the details.”
In his mind, Old Ed spoke in a leisurely tone.
“It's quite simple.”
“It means letting your Scale One spells be released with the strength and power of Scale Two!”
This meant that no matter how high of a Scale rank he promoted to in the future, the low-level spells he had learned before would still be effective.
“Of course,” Old Ed added.
“To obtain Scale Two spell power, you must also release the corresponding Scale One spell using the spirituality consumption of a Scale Two spell.”
“Generally speaking, a spell released via advancement will cost twice the spirituality of its Scale One version!”
To be honest, Elias wasn't worried about doubling his mana consumption at all.
He was so poor that all he had left was a body full of spirituality!
Moreover, he had 【Moonlight Blessing】!
As long as he stood under the moonlight, he could fight all day!
“There's one more thing,” Old Ed continued.
“Different spells will derive different additional enhancement effects after advancing.”
“You'll need to explore and study this yourself through actual combat.”
The old man huffed twice, his tone carrying a smug sense of superiority.
“After all...”
“Not everyone is lucky enough to pick up an old ghost trapped in a bracelet to explain spell effects to them.”
Elias really didn't want to deal with the old man's sudden arrogance. However, seeing that he had nearly infuriated the old ghost to death earlier, he decided to play along.
“Yes, yes, yes!”
“Thank you, thank you, old man. Is that enough?”
Elias smoothed things over with Old Ed perfunctorily.
At the same time, he slowly closed his eyes and began to personally feel the spirituality within him, which had become even more abundant due to his promotion.
He chose 【Darkvision】, the most basic spell, as a test.
His spirituality connected to the Rational Circuit in his brain.
Elias could feel with incredible clarity that when he cast this spell, the Rational Circuit in his mind actually extended toward a deeper place!
In other words, as long as he let his spirituality travel further within the Rational Circuit, the rank of the released spell would be higher.
However, his current Rational Circuit could only support an extension to a certain degree.
He guessed that this should represent the maximum distance for Scale Two.
...
After a brief sense and familiarization with his power, Elias walked to the door and rang the room service bell.
He called a hotel waiter and asked him to go to a clothing store to buy a new set of clothes in a slightly larger size. His tense muscles were finally released.
Elias fished his pocket watch out of his old clothes.
Eight o'clock in the evening!
Damn it!
He had to go pick up Charlotte immediately!
He had wasted too much time in this crappy hotel tonight!
In this era, eight o'clock at night was not a safe time.
For a young girl like Charlotte, walking alone on the dim streets at this hour would only lead to encounters with drunkards or idle street thugs.
Worse yet, she might run straight into a criminal!
Even though the police from Old Palace Yard had increased their patrol frequency on the streets recently because of the upcoming Spark Festival, so what?
A few police hats couldn't control certain deeply rooted and cruel gang families.
Of course, if Charlotte was still staying obediently at the White Bank Hotel with Ms. Cecil, Elias wasn't too worried about her running into bad people.
But he was afraid she might run into things that weren't human.
Furthermore...
Elias walked toward the door with large strides while quickly reviewing the situation in his mind.
He had used a bit of cleverness earlier to save that blockhead Brian. Perhaps investigators from the Seventh Agency were already investigating upstairs right now.
If Ms. Cecil was even slightly professional, she might very well have stuffed Charlotte alone onto a public carriage and sent her back to the West District, then led her team here to investigate the scene herself!
If that was truly the case, Charlotte would be crossing half the city alone in a night carriage. Her safety would be completely unprotected!
Thinking of this extremely dangerous possibility, Elias didn't dare to delay for a moment.
He hurriedly closed his eyes and mobilized his vast Scale Two spirituality to sense the 【link charm】 he had left on Charlotte.
Immediately after, Elias snapped his eyes open, his pupils shrinking violently as he broke into a cold sweat!
Shit!
The geographical coordinates from the positioning feedback were completely wrong!
He could sense with absolute clarity that Charlotte's current location was not at the White Bank Hotel at all!
Instead, she was at Spark Square in the Central District!
“What the hell is going on?!”
The veins on Elias's forehead throbbed.
That silly girl. She couldn't have been so mindless as to follow Ms. Cecil to the Central District for late-night shopping, could she?!
There was no time to hesitate! Elias immediately bent over and pulled the Wind-Chaser Boots onto his feet.
Then he mobilized his spirituality to strengthen the 【Moonlight Veil】 on his suitcase to the Scale Two level!
To be safe, he stuffed another link charm into the case.
After finishing all this, he turned around and left a seal on the door of the guest room. The principle was the same as the link charm; if anyone opened the door, he would know.
Finally, Elias took 【The Roaring Cane】 and left the hotel in a rush, hailing a public carriage and speeding away.
“To Spark Square!”
Without wasting words, he fished a Shilling out of his pocket and slapped it onto the driver's seat.
The driver didn't say a word. He raised the whip in his hand and snapped it in mid-air with a crisp crack.
“Giddy up!”
The carriage jolted as if it were on a roller coaster.
“What are you panicking for?!”
In his mind, Old Ed was confused by this sudden burst of activity.
“How can I not be in a hurry?!”
“My sister's been freaking kidnapped or something!” Elias explained irritably.
“Why would she kidnap your sister?” Old Ed asked, somewhat puzzled.
“Does she think your sister's talent is good and wants her to join the Seventh Agency as an assistant?”
Hearing this guess, Elias was stunned for a moment.
“Damn, that doesn't seem impossible!”
However, he immediately forced himself to calm down.
He narrowed his eyes, watching the street scenery recede rapidly outside the window.
No. If Ms. Cecil really saw Charlotte's talent and wanted to recruit her into the Seventh Agency, why would she wait until today?
He had been momentarily blinded by the location of the charm.
Thinking carefully, this was all too obvious.
“It's a trap!”
