What should he do?
Hearing the old man's impotent rage in his mind, Elias just wanted to laugh!
It was hard to keep a straight face!
Elias gritted his teeth, but the corners of his mouth were curling up so hard even an AK couldn't suppress the grin.
He cleared his throat, feeling he had to say something to add fuel to the fire.
“Old Ed, look at you,”
Elias spoke in his mind with a heavy, earnest tone.
“So anxious again.”
“We have a life-and-death friendship. Instead of being happy for me getting nine spells, how can you say that about me?”
Elias sighed performatively while putting on his bathrobe.
“Like you said before, everything has its price.”
“I obtained nine spells at once, so I endured a massive headache!”
“What does that show?”
“It shows that having many spells isn't necessarily a good thing!”
“I, too, suffered pain unimaginable to ordinary people!”
“Do you think I wanted this heavy burden?”
“Who says the ones standing in the light are the only heroes?”
...
“Heh.”
Old Ed replied with a cold, emotionless sneer.
Except for the last sentence which had a grain of truth, the rest was absolute bullshit!
Clearly, this “comfort” did not make the old man feel better; instead, it nearly infuriated him to death.
“Alright, alright, don't be mad.”
Seeing that the heat was about right and fearing the old ghost might actually snap if he pushed further, Elias decisively backed off and changed the subject.
“Why don't you tell me about the effects of these new spells I've obtained?”
It had to be said that changing the subject worked quite well.
Though the old man was still fuming, he eventually spoke up with a reluctant grumble.
“Fine, tell me. Which nine spells?”
He paused, his tone carrying a hint of stubbornness as he tried to save face.
“I'm warning you in advance, kid!”
“Once you promote further, I won't know all the spells anymore!”
“You'll have to figure it out yourself then.”
Elias rolled his eyes.
“Old man, why are you acting like a toddler who didn't get his candy?”
He retorted impatiently:
“With your mental fortitude, that twelve-year-old kid Aaron looks incredibly mature compared to you.”
“Get the hell out of here!”
Old Ed was so angry he started cursing, roaring in frustration:
“Cut the crap!”
“Just say it! What spells are they?!”
...
“Let me think.”
Elias closed his eyes, his consciousness probing the brightly lit Rational Circuit deep in his mind.
“First is 【Moon Vision】.”
“This should be the spell you used before that works better than ordinary spirit vision, right?”
“Hmph.”
Old Ed let out a grunt from his nose, which served as a silent confirmation.
“Then there's 【Moonlight Barrier】.”
Elias rubbed his chin.
“I remember this one. Blaine used it on me before.”
“It's a portable shield that can block both physical and spiritual attacks. Quite practical.”
“Next is 【Spiritual Dispelling】.”
Elias recalled the brutal battle from before.
“When the siren summoned the dream demon swarm, Blaine seemed to use this spell to drive them away.”
“There's also 【Frostbite】 and 【Moonfire】.”
“I've experienced these two as well.”
Elias clicked his tongue.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. A real song of ice and fire!”
“Wait a damn minute!”
Inside his mind, Old Ed finally couldn't take it anymore and called a halt.
“Since you already know all the spell effects,”
“Then why the hell are you asking me?!”
Elias spread his hands and answered righteously in his mind:
“Because you were in a bad mood, so I'm making conversation.”
“It's called caring for the elderly!”
“You miserable little brat!”
Old Ed was truly about to explode now.
He swore that if he had a physical body right now, he would personally strangle this bastard who had no respect for his elders!
“Alright, alright, stop, stop! I'll stop teasing you!”
Elias used his expert mood management skills to quickly smooth things over.
“Don't I still have the last four spells I've never seen before?”
“【Traceless Step】, 【Spiritual Purification】, 【Mental Channel】, and 【Sleep Spell】.”
“I haven't seen the effects or specific applications of these at all.”
The old man let out a frustrated sigh in his mind.
He probably felt that at his age, being toyed with and provoked into a breakdown by a kid who was still wet behind the ears was a disgrace to his elegant status as a senior...
Senior my ass!
Old Ed roared in despair internally.
This guy was now a genuine Scale Two transcendent!
How long had it even been?!
He couldn't even maintain his air of profound mystery anymore!
Dammit!
...
But in this cursed world, what else could an old ghost living under someone else's roof do?
He could only force himself to accept reality, despite the overwhelming discomfort!
Even though he was just a spiritual body, he felt like he was developing psychosomatic symptoms!
Old Ed smiled bitterly.
Forget it, forget it.
In one's life, who hasn't encountered a few people younger and stronger than themselves?
“Ahem...”
In Elias's mind, Old Ed cleared his throat awkwardly to cover up his loss of composure.
Elias raised an eyebrow.
An academic question suddenly popped into his head: When a ghost clears its throat, is there actually any phlegm?
Old Ed ignored Elias's wandering gaze.
He adjusted his mindset and began introducing the effects of the spells on his own.
“First is 【Traceless Step】.”
“This is a spell belonging to the great Moon Lord, specifically from the authority on the 'Passage' side.”
“As the name suggests, after casting this spell, when you walk, run, or even jump under the moonlight,”
“your footsteps will leave no physical trace in the real world!”
“No footprints, no scent, and even the sound of snapping branches will be erased by spirituality!”
“Furthermore, it can take away a large amount of the spiritual traces you leave behind.”
“And it will make your body as light and agile as a cat.”
Elias's eyes lit up.
Good stuff!
With his Wind-Chaser Boots, it might not be impossible to race a train.
“Next is 【Spiritual Purification】...”
Old Ed had just started speaking.
“Wait!”
Elias interrupted him abruptly, his tone filled with uncontrollable excitement.
“Since it's called purification, can this spell...”
“No!”
Old Ed ruthlessly extinguished Elias's hope.
“Do you think the dream demon curse is a joke?!”
“Why else do you think I told you before that you must reach Scale Five to remove that curse?”
Old Ed continued to explain irritably:
“【Spiritual Purification】 is the Moon Lord's spell from the 'Spirituality' side.”
“It can only be used to cleanse minor negative spiritual residues attached to items.”
“Of course,”
“the size of the items and the degree of pollution it can cleanse depend on your own spell scale rank.”
Elias curled his lip in disappointment.
So it was just a high-end version of a spiritual disinfectant wipe?
“Then there's 【Mental Channel】.”
Old Ed continued.
“This is also a hidden spell from the 'Passage' side.”
“You can choose a creature whose spiritual strength is far lower than yours, or at most equal to yours, and forcibly establish a spiritual connection with it.”
“Once the connection is established, you can share one designated sense with the target.”
“For example, sharing its vision or hearing.”
A biological drone!
Elias instantly understood the strategic value of this spell.
If he controlled a rat or a bird in the wild, it would be an excellent reconnaissance skill!
“Finally, there's the 【Sleep Spell】.”
Old Ed's voice became serious.
“This isn't for you to use to treat insomnia.”
“It's used to make creatures with lower spirituality than you instantly fall into arcane incapacitation.”
“However, remember that the actual effect and duration of the spell depend entirely on the spirituality you invest when casting it, as well as the difference in spiritual strength between you and the target!”
“If the target is stronger than you, this spell will, at most, make them yawn!”
This was good!
Elias nodded in satisfaction.
The Scale Two spell configuration was practically perfect!
But then, Old Ed's voice came again.
“Since you have officially promoted to Scale Two, there is another important matter I must tell you immediately.”
“Don't go blaming me later for not telling you!”
Elias frowned slightly.
“What is it?”
In his mind, Old Ed enunciated four words clearly:
“Spell Advancement.”
