The appearance of Bai Qingyu added a few twists and turns to Yue Shi and Bai Wanyang's journey.
Having failed to capture the two of them, Yue Shi and Bai Wanyang had no choice but to return to their original plan: searching for the Queen Bee's whereabouts in the Chaos Zone.
However, Yue Shi hadn't forgotten that a sniper might still be hiding in the shadows.
The two ravens he had released trailed far behind Bai Qingyu, never losing her.
The targets seemed to be fleeing, but strangely, the direction Bai Qingyu was heading was the same as the route Yue Shi was about to take to search for the Queen Bee.
"I'll notify the Investigation Bureau of the situation here first," Bai Wanyang said, taking out his phone to call Ling Xun. He then detailed everything that had just happened.
Yue Shi drove leisurely, his eyes carefully scanning the surroundings.
He hadn't seen a sniper rifle in that scrapped SUV earlier. The person who had fired four shots at him before probably wasn't Zhu Qunqing or Bai Qingyu; there was another sniper.
This sniper was hidden in the shadows and difficult to find. Yue Shi was driving slowly now to bait the other party into firing again so he could roughly determine their position.
Regrettably, after a long while, there was still no movement from the shadow.
Yue Shi wasn't willing to waste too much time on this hidden sniper. He left one raven behind at the spot, then slammed on the gas, increasing his speed.
"Let's continue with the mission to investigate the Queen Bee," Yue Shi said to Bai Wanyang.
Bai Wanyang, who had just hung up the phone, nodded.
The scenery outside the window blurred past. The direction Yue Shi was driving was both to find the Queen Bee and to pursue Bai Qingyu.
Bai Qingyu was contaminated by the Holy Mother and had completely transformed into a supernatural. She might have colluded with the Bee Woman; finding the Queen Bee's lair might allow them to wipe out both at once.
Bai Qingyu and Zhu Qunqing's current mode of transport was a motorcycle, and they were twisting and turning through narrow alleys. They might not necessarily outrun the Investigation Bureau's vehicle.
Yue Shi drove the car onto a highway soon after. The highway was very dilapidated, with cracks and potholes everywhere.
Fortunately, the Investigation Bureau's vehicle was the only one on the entire highway, so Yue Shi felt safe flooring the accelerator.
Through the ravens' vision, the distance between Yue Shi and Bai Qingyu was gradually closing.
However, this didn't last long. Bai Qingyu and Zhu Qunqing stopped midway and quickly switched to another vehicle.
The speed of this new car was much faster than the broken motorcycle from before.
Yue Shi gave chase and soon reached the place where Bai Qingyu had switched cars.
A dilapidated motorcycle had been deliberately parked in the middle of the road to serve as a roadblock.
Yue Shi didn't hesitate for a second and rammed straight through it.
With a loud crash, the motorcycle was sent flying, landing by the roadside as a heap of junk.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Bai Wanyang's brow twitched violently at the sight.
Yue Shi noticed that the distance between him and Bai Qingyu was staying within a certain fixed range. It seemed her new car had good performance and was moving very fast.
"Brother, can you watch the road while you're driving?!" Bai Wanyang suddenly raised his voice in warning.
He had inadvertently discovered that although Yue Shi had his hands on the wheel and his foot on the gas, his mind seemed to be wandering off from time to time, not looking at the road at all.
"Oh, got it," Yue Shi replied leisurely. His vision was connected with the ravens, giving him multi-perspective vision; while his eyes were looking forward, he wasn't necessarily looking at the road.
Luckily, there were no other cars on this road.
Bai Wanyang thought he could breathe a sigh of relief, but after only a few minutes, Yue Shi relapsed. His eyes stared straight ahead, yet it looked more like he was staring into the void, completely ignoring the road conditions.
"Adjust your direction! There's a tunnel ahead! You're about to hit the guardrail!" Bai Wanyang screamed like a groundhog.
When he shouted this, the car they were driving was already extremely close to the guardrail ahead, only about ten meters from a collision.
Yue Shi snapped back to his senses and calmly turned the steering wheel.
Screech—
The Investigation Bureau's car practically hugged the edge of the tunnel as it rushed in. The car's body scraped against the guardrail, sending a shower of sparks flying.
The tunnel seemed to have been abandoned for a long time, with no lights. Only a distant speck of light representing the exit could be seen ahead.
Yue Shi kept his foot firmly on the gas, his speed not slowing down at all. The gravel on the road made the high-speed car quite bumpy.
Bai Wanyang's face was incredibly pale. "Brother, are you drowsy driving? I'm worried that if this continues, we're very likely to have a fatal crash."
Yue Shi thought about it. Switching back and forth between multi-perspective vision to find the target while driving was indeed a bit tiring and made it easy to lose focus.
So, he said to Bai Wanyang, "How about you do it?"
"Me?" Bai Wanyang pointed at himself. "No way, I've never even learned how to drive."
"A man should never say he can't. If you don't know, learn on the spot," Yue Shi said with conviction, slamming on the brakes as soon as he finished speaking.
The car stopped by the roadside. Yue Shi pushed the door open and stepped out. Bai Wanyang also opened the passenger door half-heartedly and swapped seats with Yue Shi.
Following two successive door slams, Bai Wanyang sat in the driver's seat with his hands gripping the wheel, looking anxious. "Is this really okay? What if I break the car?"
"If it breaks, it breaks. It's not your car, so why the hell do you care? If it gets wrecked, just write a report and have the Investigation Bureau reimburse it," Yue Shi said matter-of-factly.
Bai Wanyang opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately said nothing.
Under Yue Shi's guidance, Bai Wanyang took a deep breath, and the car slowly started moving.
At this moment, his feelings were extremely complicated. Using the time meant for an important mission to learn how to drive was hard to describe and a bit speechless, yet it brought a hidden excitement from breaking established rules.
That feeling was a bit like skipping school; taking the time that should have been spent studying seriously and using it to play games was even more thrilling than playing games openly during a holiday!
Ling Xun had previously told Bai Wanyang that Yue Shi was a transcendent newly recruited by the Investigation Bureau, a very reliable person with considerable strength.
Looking at it now, the first half of Ling Xun's sentence was complete bullshit. Yue Shi had absolutely nothing to do with the word "reliable"!
But then again, in just this half-day of contact with Yue Shi, Bai Wanyang felt that certain things within him had been deeply influenced and had undergone some changes—perhaps his worldview, or perhaps his style of doing things...
He didn't seem to hate this change.
