Chapter 498 · Volume 1

Battle for Student Cards

Splat.
A hole appeared in the pig-headed man's chest, the size of a fist, piercing straight through. He collapsed to the ground, dead as could be.
Yue Shi leaned over to pull the student card from the man's pocket, tucked it into his own, and looked at the others around him with an incredibly arrogant attitude.
Another transmigrator launched a sneak attack from the side, a slender sword in hand, aiming the tip directly at Yue Shi's throat.
Yue Shi tilted his head, letting the blade whistle past his neck. He reached out and grabbed the transmigrator's wrist, twisting it until the sound of snapping bone echoed pleasantly.
The sword fell to the ground. Yue Shi caught it and thrust it back into the man's chest. He pulled it out, and the man collapsed.
Yue Shi took his student card and shoved it into his pocket.
More transmigrators lunged forward. They had already offended Yue Shi; they had to pin him down today and ensure he could never recover, or the consequences would be endless.
Furthermore, seeing Yue Shi's demeanor, they knew he was the type to hold a grudge over the smallest slight. They feared he would come for them one by one and kill them all.
Everyone attacked at once from different directions, using different weapons and various abilities.
Yue Shi moved through the crowd like a specter, his movements so fast that they couldn't even track his trajectory.
Blood and severed limbs flew through the air. The dormitory manager ignored the carnage, focused intently on repairing the doors.
Before long, the ground was littered with corpses.
Yue Shi stood amidst the bodies, gathered all their student cards for himself, and turned to walk into the dormitory building.
Further away, many transmigrators who had been watching from the sidelines witnessed the slaughter and remained silent for a long time.
“I was right there when he killed the Wave Messenger. From that moment on, I knew I should never provoke him,” a man murmured softly, as if talking to himself.
Having said that, he turned and walked toward his own dormitory with a rapid pace.
Another transmigrator stood in place, lowering his voice as he spoke thoughtfully to a few temporary companions. “Did you see that? Yue Shi took their student cards. Does that mean... we can use other people's cards?”
The surroundings fell silent for a moment. Someone gasped, subconsciously clutching their own pocket.
The companions who had just been standing together in a temporary alliance now seemed to be divided by an invisible line. They instinctively pulled apart, and some even shoved their hands into their pockets, gripping their student cards tightly for fear of being robbed.
If one thought about it carefully, breaking school rules resulted in punishment, but killing people did not. The school seemed to be encouraging them to slaughter each other.
This thought was like a seed planted in everyone's hearts, taking root and sprouting in the dark soil.
...
When he pushed open the door to Room 409, the lights were on. Happy Daoist was sitting alone by the window, holding a turtle in both hands and muttering something under his breath.
“Where's Foreshadowing?” Yue Shi asked.
“He hasn't come back yet.” Happy Daoist didn't even look up. “He might still be at the library, or he might have ended up in the cafeteria's kitchen.”
Yue Shi sat in a chair and closed his eyes, feeling a flood of knowledge crashing through his mind.
“The accommodation fee went up. Tonight's price is 8 points,” Happy Daoist suddenly said.
Yue Shi didn't open his eyes. “It's not 10?”
Happy Daoist sighed. “At this rate, I won't be able to afford the dorm in a few days.”
If they didn't stay in the dorms, they would have to wander the playground. By the next morning, they would have parts of their limbs severed. Treating those injuries would cost even more money, or they could choose not to heal and simply become disabled, just like those seniors.
“What are you doing with the turtle?” Yue Shi asked.
“Divining. I'm calculating tomorrow's fortune and misfortune,” Happy Daoist replied.
“If a student of this school dies, can their card still be used?” Yue Shi asked again.
Happy Daoist's eyelid twitched. He placed the turtle on the table and thought for a moment before replying, “I don't know.”
The turtle crawled slowly for two steps, then stopped and retracted into its shell.
That night, no strange sounds came from the dormitory.
It was a peaceful night.
...
The next morning, when Yue Shi walked out of the dormitory building, multiple incidents of violence had already erupted on the playground.
Many people were fighting over student cards, using every tactic they had ever used to kill and steal treasures in the past.
Some were snatching cards, some were protecting them, and some were being robbed while trying to rob others.
Severed limbs were kicked around, and blood splattered onto the grass, gradually disappearing.
A transmigrator was knocked to the ground, and another person sat on top of him, punching his face repeatedly until he was dead. After taking the student card, the victor searched the body for anything else of value.
Yue Shi watched the performance quietly, feeling a sense of deep satisfaction.
“It's like they've all had their intelligence lowered,” Happy Daoist said as he walked up from behind, holding two cups of soy milk and handing one to him.
“Perhaps,” Yue Shi said, taking the soy milk but not drinking it.
Every transmigrator who could make it here was a ruthless character, and a significant portion of them had made their fortunes through killing and looting.
After being suppressed by school rules for two days, it was only natural for conflicts to explode on the third day, especially when they could steal student cards.
He just didn't know if the stolen cards would actually work.
...
Someone took a stolen card to the card reader in the cafeteria, but when they tapped it, there was no reaction at all. It simply wouldn't scan.
The person's face turned from excitement to a grim ashen color. He slammed the card onto the ground and stomped on it twice.
Another transmigrator nearby had also snatched a card and tapped it on the reader.
Beep. The green light flashed, and the payment was successful.
“Why does the card you stole work?!” the first man asked indignantly.
The successful transmigrator turned around and sneered. “You must have killed the person before taking the card, right?”
“Yeah, so what?”
“Idiot. Once the person dies, the card is automatically deactivated!”
“Then what am I supposed to do?”
“You have to beat them until they're crippled, then take the card. As long as they're alive, the card will scan just fine!”
The surroundings went silent for a few seconds upon hearing this.
The expressions of several transmigrators turned to regret. Some pulled cards from their pockets and tried to scan them, but as expected, there was no response.
They tried another two cards, and both were invalid.
“What a waste.” A transmigrator with a face full of scars snapped the useless card in half, threw it on the ground, and stomped on it.
All that effort to steal a card, and it was useless!
“Wait a minute,” a transmigrator wearing glasses suddenly spoke up. “If a student dies, the student card is deactivated. What happens to the loans on the card? Those loans were given to the students by the school. If the student dies, doesn't the loan become bad debt?”
Another transmigrator nearby scoffed with disdain. “You still haven't figured it out? The points spent on the student card are just a currency issued by the school itself. No matter how much you spend, you're just using numbers printed by the school. Do you think the school loses anything?”
His gaze swept over everyone present before looking at the various dishes in the cafeteria's serving window. “Besides, a True God, whether alive or dead, is extremely valuable.”
