Yue Shi continued to mess with the executive for a while longer.
He tried several different methods, but the harvest was meager.
The executive just repeated the same few phrases over and over: he didn't know, he really didn't know, he was just a puppet.
He recounted the few scraps of information he did have until he was blue in the face, but there were no details, and he couldn't even provide a proper name.
Yue Shi finally stopped. Looking at the executive, who was twitching all over the ground, he shook his head slightly.
“What a useless thing.”
The person who invented corporal punishment probably never considered that such tortures would one day be used on themselves.
Although Yue Shi himself wouldn't be able to withstand such cruel torment, he didn't mind badmouthing others for it. After all, he had always been a man of double standards—as harsh as he was toward others, he was just as lenient with himself.
The executive was no longer able to speak; he just curled up on the ground, letting out pathetic whimpers.
The captain, watching this from the side, felt his legs go so weak he could barely stand.
This long-haired man, who seemed like the incarnation of some evil god, appeared to be just playing around, like a child poking at ants out of boredom.
As the captain was thinking this, he suddenly felt a gaze fall upon him.
He looked up and met those pitch-black eyes.
“You should know more about the Lord God and the Reincarnators than he does,” Yue Shi said.
The captain’s face turned deathly pale.
“Ⅰ know, but I can't say!”
“There is a prohibition; it's forbidden to reveal any relevant information to outsiders. Violators will be wiped out!”
“Is that so? I don't believe you.” Yue Shi took a step forward.
The captain retreated desperately. “Ⅰ really can't say! If I talk, I’ll die—I’ll drop dead instantly!”
“Ⅰ can work for you! I can be your blade! No matter what request you have, I can fulfill it for you.”
Yue Shi raised his middle finger. “Ⅰ don't need a blade. I’m more interested in secrets.”
The captain’s shrill screams followed immediately.
Three minutes later, Yue Shi retracted his finger.
This Reincarnator was much tougher than the executive. Even though the torture made him twitch in agony, he kept his teeth clenched and refused to utter a single word.
A flicker of thought crossed Yue Shi’s mind, and he quickly made a decision.
Since the man refused to talk, there was no point in keeping him around to waste time.
The captain immediately sensed Yue Shi’s killing intent, and countless thoughts flashed through his brain in an instant.
The executive wasn't afraid of death but was afraid of being tortured. The captain was the exact opposite; he wasn't afraid of being tortured, but he was very afraid of death.
As long as he didn't die, he had plenty of ways to recover once he returned to the Lord God Space. But if his life was gone, everything was gone.
“Ⅰ’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything!”
Yue Shi looked at him sinisterly.
The captain spoke as fast as a machine gun. “Ⅰ can't say it directly!”
“The prohibition is there; I’ll die the moment I reveal it directly. I’ll use a roundabout way to tell you implicitly. You’ll have to understand as much as you can.”
He was gambling.
The prohibition clearly stated that one could not reveal the existence of the Lord God or Reincarnators by any means.
But the situation was special. If he didn't speak, he would die a miserable death right now. By choosing to betray the Lord God, he could at least linger on for a bit longer. In that brief moment, a turning point might appear.
So he had to take the risk. Anyway, the person in front of him already knew the terms Lord God and Reincarnator.
Under these extreme circumstances, what if he could find a loophole? What if an implicit revelation didn't trigger the Lord God’s wipe-out mechanism?
He was being forced into a corner. If there were any other path to life, he wouldn't have touched this red line.
But given the current situation, he could only take a risky move.
“Stop stalling and speak,” Yue Shi urged.
The captain opened his mouth and began. “That mysterious existence that looks like a large light orb is actually...”
Halfway through his sentence, his body began to swell rapidly, like a balloon being blown to its limit. His skin stretched tight, and his handsome face and physique were instantly deformed beyond recognition.
Yue Shi didn't even have time to react.
Boom!
A massive explosion rang out.
The captain exploded, turning into a cloud of light particles.
Those light particles flickered briefly and then vanished completely, leaving not even a scrap behind.
Yue Shi was stunned for a rare couple of seconds; he actually hadn't seen how the captain had detonated.
That Lord God was quite fierce.
He turned his head to look at the other two Reincarnators who were still losing their minds nearby.
The demon man had completely lost his sanity, as had the vampire. They were basically of no value.
Yue Shi waved his hand.
The demon man’s roars came to an abrupt halt, and his body crashed to the ground. The sulfurous fire on him flickered a few times before gradually going out.
The vampire’s prayers stopped as well. His head slowly slumped down, his body stiffened, but his face still held that expression of obsessive devotion.
Yue Shi walked toward the executive.
The executive was shaking all over.
“Lead me to the true core members of Deep Blue Route.”
...
The island was deserted, shrouded in a deathly silence.
A long time later.
Several small boats quietly approached the back of the island.
A dozen or so people jumped off the boats, their movements cautious. They quickly fanned out, taking up advantageous positions, and then signaled to those behind them.
More people disembarked from the boats.
The last to appear was a figure that looked like a child.
It was the people from the Order Alliance.
“Chief, the island seems empty?” a member of the alliance responsible for scouting whispered.
The child-like leader narrowed his eyes, looking at the empty buildings with a subtle expression.
A few minutes later, the definitive scouting results were brought back.
There was indeed no one on the island. The ships and buildings were all empty.
“What’s going on?” one alliance member felt a chill, feeling as if they had wandered into the set of a horror movie.
The leader walked quickly toward the core area of the island. No defense systems blocked his path.
He successfully entered the main control hall.
The hall was a mess. Equipment had been stripped away, and there were many traces of fighting in the vicinity.
“We’re late.” The leader gave a mirthless smile.
The member beside him was startled. “What?”
“Something happened to the Deep Blue Route headquarters, and it was something big,” the leader said.
“Go search everywhere. See if anything of value was left on the island.”
The alliance members obeyed and went off.
Half an hour later, the preliminary results were summarized and handed to the leader.
They had only found a few corpses on the island, and nothing of value.
This island was like it had been picked clean by a swarm of locusts. All the equipment, products, documents, confidential files, research achievements... everything was gone.
The leader was silent for a long time, desperately wanting to curse.
They had worked for nothing back at Avenia. All that high-tech equipment had been rendered useless, and they had even lost personnel.
The alliance had taken over Avenia but gained no benefits, and they even had to help restore order to that island.
With great difficulty, they had followed the trail of Deep Blue Route’s external employees to the headquarters, only to find this place even more barren—nothing was left.
The leader irritably tossed the report aside.
“Withdraw.”
Someone blinked. “Chief, we’re leaving just like that?”
The leader shot him a look. “If we don't leave, what are we going to do? Stay here and roast sweet potatoes?”
“It’s obvious that a much tougher character got here ahead of us and looted the place. We didn't even get to drink the leftover soup.”
“Then how do we explain this to the higher-ups when we get back?” another member asked.
The leader sighed. “How about this. When we go back to write the report, say that after overcoming immense hardships, we finally pinpointed the location of the Deep Blue Route headquarters. However, Deep Blue Route is suspected to have encountered an unknown situation, resulting in the disappearance of all personnel for reasons currently unknown.”
“As for Avenia? Write that we successfully took over the island, but because we lack technical personnel, we don't yet know how to operate the high-tech equipment there.”
“In short, make sure to emphasize that we occupied Avenia without losing a single soldier and successfully secured the high technology on the island.”
“The fact that the equipment is non-functional has nothing to do with us; that’s a problem for the technicians.”
“Finally, congratulations on the basic success of our operation!”
