Seeing the Bee Woman restrained and slowed down, Ling Xun didn't hesitate for a second before preparing to shoot her dead.
"No! No one is allowed to hurt her unless you step over my dead body!" Zhu Qunqing stepped forward, shielding the Bee Woman. At a glance, he actually looked quite devoted.
Bang—
A gunshot rang out.
The moment he fell, Zhu Qunqing’s face was filled with absolute shock. The others hadn't expected Ling Xun to fire so decisively either.
Zhu Qunqing’s one shoulder was already heavily injured; the bullet had now pierced through his other, healthy shoulder. The blood loss and intense pain made it impossible for him to utter a coherent sentence.
"I’ve put up with you for long enough!" A flash of ruthlessness crossed Ling Xun’s eyes, and he made no effort to hide his killing intent. If there hadn't been outsiders present, that bullet likely wouldn't have targeted the shoulder, but... a direct headshot.
This version of Ling Xun terrified Zhu Qunqing, but after a brief moment of fear, an extreme surge of rage welled up within him. He widened his eyes, his gaze about to focus on Ling Xun.
Slap—
Wei Siqi swung her straw, striking Zhu Qunqing across the head. The blow knocked off his sunglasses, revealing a pair of red pupils that glowed like gems in the dim corridor.
Zhu Qunqing’s head slumped, unable to lift it again. He could only stare resentfully at the ground.
Yue Shi noticed those peculiar eyes and suddenly understood why the man was so delusional. Recalling how a single glance from him earlier had caused swarms of venomous bees to die, Yue Shi surmised that his ability was likely related to his eyes.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
With no one left to stop the execution, Ling Xun fired several shots, killing the Bee Woman on the spot.
Zhu Qunqing remained silent, his body trembling slightly. Veins bulged on his forehead, and he bit his lower lip so hard that several droplets of bright red blood seeped out. It was clear he was harboring a deep grudge, likely thinking something along the lines of, "Thirty years on the east bank, thirty years on the west... don't underestimate a poor youth."
Illusory, invisible tentacles lightly brushed over the Bee Woman’s corpse as the golden eye representing Yue Shi’s sixth ability fully opened.
After the death of the Bee Woman, who was the suspected source, the people in the school who had gone mad didn't immediately regain consciousness. They remained in a daze, but they lost their aggressiveness and stopped attacking others.
Wei Siqi found a random scrap of cloth from somewhere to blindfold Zhu Qunqing. She hoisted him over one shoulder and dragged the Bee Woman’s corpse with her other hand as she headed out.
"It feels like we didn't help at all. We just came to watch the show," Fang Jianxin whispered, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Don't say that. We provided silent moral support to the Investigation Bureau the whole time. How is that not helping?" Zhong Mo said calmly, his tone slightly teasing.
"Once a human is contaminated and completely turns into a supernatural, is there any chance of saving them?" Yue Shi asked.
Zhong Mo shook his head. "Usually, there’s no hope. But I wouldn't rule out the Investigation Bureau having some kind of classified black technology."
Yue Shi’s questioning gaze swept over Zhu Qunqing. Seeing this, Zhong Mo chuckled. "The guy fancies himself a protagonist. What’s wrong with him taking a beautiful supernatural home to be his maid? Maybe he really does have a way to tame female supernaturals. If he does, he could use the Bee Woman’s power for himself."
Zhong Mo’s voice wasn't particularly quiet, and Wei Siqi, walking ahead, heard him clearly. Her face darkened instantly. She felt like throwing Zhu Qunqing to the ground and stomping on him. He was single-handedly dragging the Investigation Bureau’s reputation through the mud!
Actually, Zhong Mo wasn't trying to be mocking. When someone first awakens supernatural power, who hasn't had a few wild, over-the-top fantasies?
But someone as severely delusional as Zhu Qunqing was indeed rare.
There were still a few stray Bee Women roaming the campus, but without a leader, they were quickly cleared out.
Rescue personnel were busy with the aftermath. The deceased were properly handled, and the survivors were taken away for treatment.
Tulip Security Company had originally come to investigate Jiang Cifei’s disappearance. They hadn't expected to run into such a major incident. They had gained nothing and instead suffered heavy losses.
Among the regular employees who had been left behind, some had died outright, while those lucky enough to survive were disfigured beyond recognition—a truly gruesome sight.
The only exception was the company’s second-in-command, Pei Yue. He was... completely unharmed.
When they met again, although Pei Yue was trying his best to endure, he couldn't hide his dissatisfaction and resentment. There was even a hint of inexplicable malice in his eyes, though he said nothing of it, remaining polite on the surface.
Yue Shi didn't feel the slightest bit of guilt. He was only filled with happiness and joy over acquiring a new ability.
Zhong Mo, however, asked with concern, "Manager Pei, things were so dangerous earlier. How did you escape?"
Pei Yue gave a strained smile. "Just good luck. I didn't escape; I hid under a desk and wasn't discovered."
It was obviously a perfunctory answer, but Zhong Mo didn't press him.
The Investigation Bureau carefully recovered every supernatural corpse. At that moment, Bai Qingyu slowly woke up. As soon as she opened her eyes, she was met with the tragic, bloody scene, making her whole body tremble.
Fortunately, her mental fortitude was relatively stable, and she didn't scream or lose her composure on the spot.
Fang Jianxin hurried over to comfort her and briefly explained the current situation.
Not a single trace of a sting remained on Bai Qingyu’s face; her skin was as smooth and delicate as a peeled hard-boiled egg. She looked around, her gaze falling on a Bee Woman’s corpse being placed into a special container. She couldn't help but frown.
"How pitiful. They were living beings once, and now they're just gone."
Looking at the fallen high school students, Fang Jianxin also sighed. "Yeah. They were so young, even minors. It's a shame."
Zhong Mo’s searching gaze swept over Bai Qingyu but was drawn away by a sudden commotion coming from the direction of the teaching building.
A boy with sharp features stood warily at the entrance of the building. His crumpled school uniform was stained with patches of blood, and five or six terrified boys and girls followed behind him.
They were likely classmates. None of them were injured. Ling Xun stood opposite them, and after saying something, an argument broke out between the two sides.
For a moment, the boy looked as fierce as a wolf cub. Even though Ling Xun was from the Investigation Bureau, the boy didn't give him an ounce of respect, and his classmates stood firmly by his side.
It was as if they had lost all trust in the Investigation Bureau and only trusted that wolf-like boy.
Ling Xun walked away in disappointment. As soon as he left, Pei Yue hurried over, respectfully and flatteringly handing over a business card. He spoke incessantly, but the boy only responded with lukewarm indifference.
Pei Yue didn't linger too long. The events at the school were drawing to a close, and it was time for him to leave. Today’s ordeal had been too harrowing; he needed a good rest.
Returning to Yue Shi and the others, Pei Yue spoke up before they could even ask, his tone tinged with envy. "That young man awakened supernatural power during this supernatural incident. Now that is what I call true good luck..."
Yue Shi turned to look at the boy.
There didn't seem to be anything special about him.
