Yue Shi was tossing a supernatural creature into the Decomposition and Synthesis Machine when he suddenly paused.
He detected a strange sensation, as if the connection between himself and the moon had been briefly shielded for a fleeting moment.
This anomaly came abruptly and vanished just as quickly.
In the span of a single breath, that peculiar feeling was gone, as if it had been nothing more than an illusion.
Yue Shi frowned slightly, his Insight vision quickly sweeping over his surroundings.
Everything was normal; no lingering traces of any anomaly remained.
He fell into deep thought. At his level, illusions were almost impossible.
In that split second, something must have occurred that transcended his current understanding.
However, since all traces were gone and it was impossible to track—and since it hadn't caused him any substantial impact—he decided not to pursue it for the time being.
There were more important matters at hand.
He had seen the apocalypse, and time was of the essence. He needed to take advantage of the chaos to plunder as many high-value materials as possible.
Powerful supernatural creatures, transcendents, and supernatural objects—all were his targets.
The Decomposition and Synthesis Machine operated at peak efficiency, breaking everything down into basic materials.
Just as Yue Shi was in the middle of his frantic looting, the apocalypse arrived.
There was no warning.
The heavens collapsed and the earth split. Everything, along with the world itself, was hurtling toward an indescribable end state.
This was the end that the countless possibilities of the future had ultimately pointed toward when Yue Shi had observed them.
The unspeakable apocalypse.
His sense of crisis triggered an instinctive reaction; he immediately retracted all his externalized power and Mirror Clones.
The moon in the sky vanished, and the darkness that had shrouded the firmament disappeared along with it.
With the moon and the darkness gone, the sky was revealed once more.
But what was revealed was not the familiar sky and sun.
It was a horrific image that defied normal logic.
The backdrop of the sky transformed into a shifting, churning mess, as if all colors had been overturned and blended into chaotic patches of color, flashing and flowing without rhyme or reason.
Irregular gashes split across this chaotic background from time to time, revealing the void behind them.
Yue Shi's expression turned grim. He tried to observe the future, but the feedback he received was nothing but void and disorder.
The future was gone; the world had reached its end.
He had no idea what had happened.
What could have possibly triggered this apocalypse?
In the face of a true apocalypse like this, the disaster he had orchestrated was nothing more than a common natural calamity.
...
The Bureau conference room.
“The fruit has ripened. Initiation of harvest.”
Mr. A's cold, mechanical voice seemed to still be echoing through the room.
The high-level executives of the headquarters, from the Minister to the various department heads, were all stunned.
They recognized every word, but when put together, they couldn't comprehend the meaning.
But they knew the plan had gone wrong.
After Mr. A had briefly restricted the moon, an unknown mutation had occurred within him. His state became extremely strange; after uttering that single bizarre sentence, he had fallen into a state of paralysis.
What did that sentence mean?
Fruit? Harvest?
The Minister must have realized something, for every drop of color drained from his face.
“Oh god, this is a disaster!”
The head of the Intelligence Department screamed.
He didn't need to elaborate; everyone else immediately sensed the apocalypse unfolding outside.
The sound of chaos flooded the conference room, and everyone turned their gaze toward the Minister.
The Minister opened his mouth, his throat dry, not knowing what to say.
Any words seemed laughable in the face of a disaster of this magnitude.
Less than three minutes had passed since Mr. A had spoken those words.
Rumble.
The Cloud Whale carrying the headquarters let out a mournful cry.
The conference room trembled along with it.
“What's happened now?” one executive asked.
As soon as the words left his mouth, a wildly arrogant laugh echoed from outside.
“Hahaha, so the headquarters was hidden here!”
“This giant whale is a fine thing. It is destined for me!”
Hearing that voice, the faces of everyone in the room changed.
“Yue Shi? Why would he show up now!”
“Apprehend him immediately! The disaster outside might be related to him.”
“Yes, even if he knows nothing, he must be killed!”
The headquarters had been humiliated repeatedly, and they had long since reached the peak of their fury.
Now that an apocalypse of unknown origin had broken out, even the high-level executives were extremely volatile. Yue Shi had simply stumbled right into their path, becoming the perfect emotional outlet.
The Minister waved his hand dejectedly. “Do whatever you want...”
Before he could finish, a wall of the conference room was blown apart with a bang.
“Scum, come out and face your death!”
Yue Shi barged straight in.
It was already the end of the world; it would be a regret if he didn't finish off the headquarters.
Just over two months ago, he was merely a low-level investigator in Amber City. Now, he was capable of storming the headquarters.
In fact, according to his original plan, he would have invaded the headquarters soon anyway. He hadn't expected the apocalypse to arrive so quickly and disrupt his schedule.
But it didn't matter. Even if the world was destroyed, he wouldn't stop committing evil.
“Kill him together!” an executive roared in rage.
Several captains watched as the executive lunged at Yue Shi, then used the chaos as cover to make their escape.
It was a joke—when experts clashed, if small fry like them didn't flee in the confusion, did they really want to get involved?
The world was vast; they would find a place to play hide-and-seek and focus on surviving first.
Many others shared the same thought and slipped away. Unfortunately, when they stepped outside the building and saw the scene of the world tearing apart, they were all stunned.
