Hearing Zhou Zhiheng’s words, everyone looked closer to compare.
To be precise, those beautiful female students weren't exactly carbon copies; their features and face shapes didn't have that many similarities. However, at first glance, one couldn't help but feel an inexplicable seventy-percent resemblance, as if they were the same model of robot, just with different skins.
“With so many people contaminated by the supernatural in this school, why hasn't the Investigation Bureau isolated them yet? If they all fully mutate into Bee Women, the consequences will be unimaginable!” Zhao Lin asked, shrinking back slightly.
Pei Yue let out a long sigh. “Who said they aren't isolated? Didn't you notice that the area around the school is unnervingly quiet? All the surrounding shops have suspended business, and not a single vehicle or pedestrian is passing by on the road outside the gates.”
Zhao Lin was stunned, then realization dawned on him. “Does that mean the entire school has been...”
Pei Yue nodded grimly. “With so many contaminated individuals gathered here, the Investigation Bureau suspects the source of the Bee Woman is hidden right inside this school.”
“The school is currently under total lockdown. The administration used the excuse of arranging dorms for day students, and all teachers and students are forbidden from leaving. On one hand, this is to prevent the supernatural from spreading; on the other, it’s to avoid causing panic or alerting the enemy. Everything is being done in secret.”
“But as you can see, the peace is only on the surface. If this drags on too long, I’m afraid chaos will break out.”
His words rang true. Although high school students lacked life experience, they weren't idiots; the clever ones had likely already realized something was wrong.
Bang—
A sharp gunshot shattered the harmonious atmosphere.
Everyone looked toward the sound and saw three armed men surrounding a teenage girl on the nearby playground.
The girl was coughing up blood, wailing in agony on the ground.
What was truly hair-raising, however, was that her body had already begun to deform, revealing several bee-like characteristics. Her eyes, in particular, were bulging and swollen, taking up a disproportionate amount of her face, far beyond the limits of a normal human.
The scene drew a crowd of onlookers. Those who got closer saw that the girl’s large eyes had neither pupils nor whites; they were filled with dense, honeycomb-like compound eyes.
Those with quick reactions didn't hesitate to bolt, while those with slower wits lingered to watch the spectacle.
Among the three men surrounding the girl, an older one shouted, “We are employees of Dawn Technology! A supernatural incident is occurring here. All unauthorized personnel, leave immediately!”
Upon hearing this, the crowd dispersed at once. Only a few exceptionally bold individuals took the opportunity to snap a few photos from a distance before hurrying away.
The mutated girl’s face was covered in blood, and a large pool of it was spreading across the ground around her.
She appeared to be severely injured, yet the three men surrounding her still didn't dare to relax their guard.
“How dare you hurt me?”
“Why are you hurting me!”
The girl suddenly began questioning them hysterically, her voice growing increasingly shrill like a paranoid lunatic.
She lunged up from the ground, her face twisted into a terrifying mask.
“!!!” The three armed men stumbled back in shock.
Rip—
The clothes on the girl’s back suddenly tore open, revealing a pair of membranous, translucent wings and two extra arms growing from her ribs.
As her wings beat, scraps of fabric fluttered away. Pale yellow fuzz sprouted from her skin, her mouth twisted into insectoid mouthparts, and her four arms began to look more and more like the segmented limbs of an arthropod.
Clearly, she had fully mutated into a Bee Woman.
This newly formed Bee Woman flickered like a shadow and pounced toward one of the armed men.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The man pulled the trigger, pouring out a hail of bullets that almost all hit the Bee Woman.
However, she didn't take much damage. The impact only pushed her back a few inches. Her expression grew even more ferocious as she screamed madly, “You all have to die!”
Immediately after, she launched another attack.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Another volley of gunshots rang out.
But this time, the Bee Woman was too fast. Using all six limbs and her wings, she moved like a gust of wind, leaving afterimages that made it nearly impossible for the bullets to land.
The three Dawn Technology employees were thrown into disarray, scrambling to dodge to either side.
The older man among them was half a beat too slow. Seeing he couldn't avoid her, he fired another shot in a panic.
Since the range was so close, he actually hit her this time. However, the Bee Woman was only briefly repelled. With a flap of her wings, she flew forward again, slamming straight into the older employee.
“Agh!” With a miserable cry, the employee was sent flying. He tumbled several times across the ground and then lay still.
Bang! Bang!
The other two employees fired wildly at the Bee Woman, but she seemed to have figured out the pattern of their firearms and dodged with ease.
At the same time, she took to the air. A long, thick stinger grew from her tailbone. Her body twisted as she aimed the stinger at one of the employees and lunged downward.
Perhaps this employee had stronger nerves; facing the imminent crisis, he remained relatively calm and aimed his gun at her vulnerable spot.
Bang!
The shot hit the Bee Woman’s mutated mouthparts.
The Bee Woman plummeted from the air, clutching her head on the ground as she thrashed and wailed in pain. The blood flowing from her wound gradually turned from red to amber.
The Dawn Technology employees pressed their advantage, firing several more shots in succession.
Sensing the danger, the Bee Woman kicked off the ground and began to run wildly. At the same time, an eerie, high-pitched buzzing sound erupted from her throat, making everyone who heard it feel uneasy.
A few reckless onlookers in the distance hadn't left, thinking they were safe watching the show. Now, seeing the Bee Woman going berserk, they finally didn't dare to stay any longer.
But it was too late. The Bee Woman didn't target them intentionally, but she accidentally brushed past them as she fled. Those she touched collapsed to the ground, unable to even scream. They were likely beyond saving.
The group from Tulip Security Company had been watching the entire time. Seeing this, Zhou Zhiheng asked, “Should we go over and help?”
“Let’s wait and see. The people from Dawn are armed; it would be easy to get caught in the crossfire,” Pei Yue said.
“Dawn is making such a mess of things; I expect the Investigation Bureau will be calling them in for questioning after this...”
