Chapter 280 · Volume 1

Extermination of the Clan

Early morning.
Cuifeng City Investigation Bureau.
“When will this snow stop?”
In the office of the Special Operations Section, the Section Chief sat in his chair, picked up his thermos, and took a sip of plain water with goji berries.
Through the window, the gray clouds of the sky were visible.
Every winter, one's mood would become inexplicably suppressed.
It was likely a combination of the short daylight hours and the freezing temperatures.
“Section Chief, your breakfast.”
A young investigator under his command placed a breakfast set on the Section Chief's desk.
He then sat down at his own workstation nearby and began eating his own breakfast.
As he ate, he said, “Not long ago, there was that lunar anomaly, and the cause still hasn't been figured out.”
“A lot of people online are saying it's a sign of a coming natural disaster.”
“I don't know what headquarters is thinking. It's been so long, yet they haven't come forward to debunk the rumors.”
The Section Chief said leisurely, “Headquarters has been very busy lately.”
The young investigator scoffed. “Busy with what?”
“Wasn't it just recently that You-Know-Who trashed Yujing? Several captains even died.”
“They're currently selecting new captains to fill the vacancies.”
“Being a captain really doesn't carry much weight anymore if they can be slaughtered by a single wanted fugitive.”
The young investigator's tone was quite disdainful.
At that moment, someone passed behind him and accidentally bumped into his chair.
The young investigator, who was in the middle of eating, nearly sprayed the soy milk in his mouth everywhere.
He turned around unhappily to see a hairless investigator behind him.
The other man hurriedly apologized, “Sorry, my bad.”
The young investigator waved it off. “Forget it, just be more careful next time.”
The bald investigator pulled a chair over and sat down, looking full of gossip.
“Have you heard? Headquarters recruited a large private organization yesterday, the Circus.”
“The Circus officially announced its submission to headquarters this morning.”
Hearing this, the young investigator was somewhat surprised.
“Large-scale private transcendent organizations have always been incredibly arrogant. Why would they suddenly join headquarters?”
“Who knows?” The bald man shrugged.
The Section Chief spoke up then. “This is just the beginning. Headquarters might have some major moves planned for private transcendent organizations in the near future.”
“Huh?” The bald man was confused.
“What do you mean? Is headquarters really going to move against the private organizations? For real?”
Given the existence of various supernatural domains, forbidden zones, and powerful transcendents, the Bureau headquarters' range of power was limited to the cities.
Once you left the city and entered the Chaos Zone, their authority was useless.
Various private organizations were growing larger and larger, entrenching themselves as local powers.
The Investigation Bureaus in some cities were so powerful that they were local overlords themselves, barely listening to headquarters at all.
The Cuifeng City Investigation Bureau was exactly like that.
When headquarters' various orders arrived here, they had their own interpretations.
The surface-level harmony between headquarters, private transcendent organizations, local Investigation Bureaus, and transcendent families had been maintained for many years.
Was headquarters now intending to break this balance?
“Section Chief, do you have some inside information?”
The young investigator asked.
The Section Chief shook his head. “I'm not sure.”
“However, if headquarters is making such a big move, they must have something to rely on.”
“Otherwise, headquarters wouldn't just break the balance for no reason.”
The bald man's expression became somewhat solemn. “Then our Bureau...”
The Section Chief smiled. “Don't worry. On the surface, things haven't reached a breaking point yet. We've always been on the side of headquarters.”
Bang!
The office door was pushed open violently. An assistant investigator burst in, his face pale with panic.
“Something terrible has happened! The Yin family was attacked last night. They've been exterminated.”
“The Yin family? You mean Mr. Yin?!”
The Section Chief immediately stood up in excitement.
“Yes, it's Mr. Yin, the owner of Silverwing Technology Group. His entire family is dead.”
“This morning, the Yin family's servant discovered the scene. There was blood and mangled corpses everywhere...”
After hearing the assistant investigator's description, the Bureau quickly sprang into action.
The Section Chief had sat in this position for several years and knew many of the unwritten rules and insider secrets.
Mr. Yin had started out in money lending but had since cleaned up his act and gone legit.
Silverwing Technology Group produced various high-end mechanical products, especially bionic robots, which were widely acclaimed. It was a pillar industry of Cuifeng City.
Mr. Yin had deep connections with many local transcendents and frequently gave gifts to people in the Bureau.
Knowing that Mr. Yin's entire family had been murdered, most of the investigators were very concerned about the matter.
After all, Mr. Yin was their cash cow.
However, a small number of people were secretly cheering in their hearts.
‘A scumbag like him should have died long ago.’
‘If it weren't for certain bastards in the Bureau protecting him, I would have wanted to take him out myself.’
The Section Chief personally led a team, driving toward the crime scene.
The Yin residence was located in the north of Cuifeng City.
The gates were currently wide open, and several local precinct officers who had arrived first were standing guard at the entrance.
The convoy drove in, tires rolling over the driveway beside the lawn, and stopped in front of a massive building with cold, hard lines.
This was Mr. Yin's home.
A pale-faced maid, accompanied by a police officer, stood under the porch, her body trembling slightly.
The Section Chief led the investigators as they put on shoe covers and gloves before pushing open the front door.
The smell of blood rushed to meet them.
The foyer was extremely spacious, with marble floors polished to a mirror shine, now scattered with messy bloodstains.
Past the foyer was an even more open living room.
One side of the living room was a full wall of floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The indoor furniture was primarily black, white, and gray.
A massive white rug laid in the center of the living room had been dyed dark red.
There were two corpses in the living room, both wearing black security uniforms. One had his neck twisted 360 degrees, while the other's head had been split down the middle.
They were the two people in the Yin residence who had died the most 'graceful' deaths.
As for the rest of the Yin family, they could only be described as 'horrific.'
Many of them were found in pots in the kitchen.
Even for investigators accustomed to bloody scenes, they were currently fighting the urge to vomit.
