Chapter 279 · Volume 1

Descent into Darkness

“Would you like this ‘blessing’ for yourself!?”
The young man roared in fury.
“Shh, keep it down.”
“Mr. Yin is a ‘sensitive’ man. He can’t handle a fright.”
One of the men in black covered the young man’s mouth.
The other teased from the side.
“With a voice that loud, if you startle Mr. Yin inside...”
“Hehe, you’ll definitely have hell to pay!”
The two spoke with vulgar tones, mocking their own boss without restraint.
“Mmph! Mmph!”
The young man twisted his body with all his might, let out muffled, indistinct sounds.
But his meager strength was nothing compared to two professional bodyguards.
The two men in black, one on each side, held the young man firmly in place, making it impossible for him to move.
“Mr. Yin is the top figure in our Cuifeng City. He manages the largest robotics production line.”
“Even the scraps that fall from his table would be enough to feed your family for a lifetime.”
“It’s your parents’ good fortune that Mr. Yin took a fancy to them. Why are you so ungrateful?”
The man covering his mouth spoke with a persuasive tone, as if advising a stubborn child.
The other joined in the mockery like they were performing a double act.
“Exactly. Be smart about this.”
“Your parents are now Mr. Yin’s people. By extension, you could basically be considered Mr. Yin’s son. Your future would be limitless.”
“Come to think of it, you’ve spent half your life drifting aimlessly, and now you’ve finally met a worthy master. This is a perfect chance to adopt him as your godfather.”
“Young man, don’t miss this opportunity. Once this chance is gone, you won't find another like it.”
The two spoke in harmony, their words like barbed whips lashing at the young man’s heart.
A dark thought actually began to sprout quietly in the depths of his soul.
Perhaps...
Perhaps if he just submitted to Mr. Yin, he could escape his current predicament?
His parents’ illnesses could be properly treated.
He wouldn’t have to work overtime every single day.
The three of them could finally live a good life.
The thought flashed through his mind before being instantly extinguished by the young man.
No!
He couldn't!
If it were just him sacrificing himself and being █ by Mr. Yin, that would be one thing.
But now, it was his parents who were suffering!
Conscience triumphed over evil intent.
“Urgh!”
The young man let out a guttural roar, his body erupting with a surge of desperate strength as he struggled wildly.
“Dammit, you just don’t know what’s good for you!”
The two men in black finally lost their patience.
The one covering his mouth exerted force, executing a clean trip that slammed the young man heavily into the snow.
The snow was smashed into a shallow pit, and flecks of ice splattered across the young man’s face.
“Get lost. Don’t be an eyesore here and ruin Mr. Yin’s mood.”
The other man looked at the young man curled up in the snow and hesitated slightly.
“What if—and I mean just if—this kid actually becomes Mr. Yin’s son later and holds a grudge against us? Wouldn’t we...”
“Hahaha, what are you thinking?”
“You’re still too young, you haven’t seen enough.”
The first man in black let out an exaggerated laugh that sounded exceptionally piercing in the snowy night.
“What kind of status does Mr. Yin have?”
“He’s just looking for a bit of novelty, playing around with a ‘human sandwich.’”
“Even if he really took him in as a son, it would probably just be because he wants to change things up and taste what it’s like for a family of three to █ simultaneously ██.”
“Commoners like this with no background can be sent away with a bit of cash afterward.”
“Poor people at the bottom won’t turn their backs on money.”
The young man lay on the ground as snowmelt seeped into his ears. His strength drained away along with his body temperature.
Hearing the two men’s unrestrained mockery, a surge of strength rose from somewhere within him.
He propped himself up with his hands and stood up shakily from the snow.
But before he could even catch his breath, a side kick slammed brutally into his stomach.
Thump!
A dull sound echoed.
The young man was sent flying like a bird with broken wings, crashing heavily back into the snow.
This time, he couldn’t get up.
A metallic, sweet taste surged up his throat, and he couldn't help but open his mouth.
With a gagging sound, blood splattered onto the pristine white snow, spreading quickly in a shocking crimson stain.
The young man’s vision began to blur. The world spun, and a sharp ringing filled his ears.
He tried to push himself up, but his arms felt as soft as noodles.
Waves of dizziness battered his consciousness.
Hatred, cold and viscous, erupted frantically from the deepest part of his heart, sweeping through every cell in his body.
‘Kill them.’
‘Kill them!’
‘Leave none alive! No one gets to live!’
A towering hatred scorched his remaining sanity.
“You seem to need help?”
A strange voice suddenly echoed in the young man’s ear.
The voice was hollow and hoarse, as if vibrating directly inside his mind.
The snowflakes dancing in the air seemed to fall into a brief moment of stagnation.
The young man’s scattered gaze struggled to focus as he forced his head up.
He saw a crow.
The crow stood less than a foot away from his head.
Its pitch-black feathers seemed capable of absorbing all light.
A pair of eyes gazed at him without any emotion.
“I want them dead!”
“I want them all to die!”
The young man squeezed the words through his teeth, which were stained with blood, his face twisted in a gruesome mask.
Anger and hatred eroded his reason. He no longer cared what this crow was.
Even if it was a supernatural creature, it didn't matter.
He only wanted revenge!
“What can you give me?”
The crow spoke in human tongue.
Strangely, the two men in black were completely oblivious, acting as if they heard nothing.
And the crow’s beak remained tightly shut.
The voice appeared directly in the young man’s mind.
“Everything! My all! I’ll give it all to you!”
“As long as I can kill them, you can have whatever you want!”
The young man responded impatiently, coughing up another mouthful of blood that splattered near the crow’s talons.
“Hahahaha.”
“Your everything isn’t actually worth much.”
The crow’s voice was cold and mocking, its eyes reflecting the young man’s hideous, distorted appearance.
“However, that doesn’t matter.”
As the words fell, the crow melted into a pool of irregular shadow, merging into the young man’s own shadow.
The young man’s eyes turned fierce. His body snapped upright, standing straight as a board.
The snow continued to fall.
The two men in black heard the movement and turned around in shock.
They saw the young man, who should have lost all ability to move, walking toward them.
“What a pain.”
“Since you were already down, couldn't you just stay on the ground and play dead?”
One of the men in black frowned, his tone impatient.
“Like an egg hitting a stone, you’re just looking for a beating!”
The other man strode forward and raised his foot, aiming a brutal kick at the young man’s abdomen.
He intended to completely flatten this ungrateful brat.
But his ankle was suddenly caught by the young man.
Five fingers slowly tightened.
Crack!
The crisp sound of bone shattering exploded in the snowy night, exceptionally clear.
“Ah! My foot!!”
The man whose ankle was caught let out a scream. He lost his balance and fell heavily into the snow, rolling around in agony.
The young man followed up with a kick to his chest, sending him into a coughing fit of blood.
The other man in black was horrified. His pupils shrank as he reached for his lower back, trying to draw a gun.
Unfortunately, he was too slow.
Before he could even touch the weapon, the young man had rushed in front of him, raining punch after punch onto his face.
His eye sockets shattered, looking like a silk shop had burst open—reds, blacks, and purples all exploded out at once.
Two physically powerful men were easily crushed by the young man’s small frame.
After dealing with the two bodyguards, the young man turned and rushed into the stairwell.
The voice-activated lights in the stairwell flickered on and off.
He cleared the stairs in a few bounds, reached his front door, and pushed it open, charging straight for the bedroom.
The scene inside instantly crashed into his vision.
The image was too revolting.
How could such a depraved scene exist?
The young man felt his brain go numb with a roar as his sanity completely collapsed.
He didn't even make a sound, charging forward like a shell fired from a cannon.
One punch.
Then another.
Whether it was screams, pleas for mercy, or threats, the young man was deaf to them all.
Until all sounds vanished.
Until he had vented all the malice and resentment in his heart.
He regained a moment of clarity, looking at the three corpses in the bedroom that had been hammered into unrecognizable pulps.
He stared blankly for two seconds.
“Hahahaha.”
He couldn't stop laughing.
There are no filial sons at the bedside of the long-term ill. The tiny sliver of malice the young man felt toward his parents was now completely laid bare.
He laughed hideously, tears streaming from the corners of his eyes.
Expressions of sorrow and liberation intertwined on his face, eventually melting into a singular state of fanaticism.
“Like a demon-slaying lord descending from the heavens, truly a beast-god of the mortal realm!”
