The burly thug smoothed out the papers and flipped to the last page.
Su Wan’s sharp gaze swept over them, confirming it was indeed the high-interest loan contract stamped with her thumbprint. The signature on the last page was the very one she had been forced to sign.
“See that? It’s the real deal!” Li Bao urged impatiently. “Now, give me the money!”
Only then did Su Wan crouch down and unzip the canvas bag, tilting it slightly so Li Bao could see inside.
In an instant, a dazzling golden light nearly blinded Li Bao and the two thugs.
It was gold!
At the bottom of the canvas bag lay gold bars and jewelry of all shapes and sizes.
“Gold?” Li Bao hadn’t expected Su Wan to settle the debt with gold.
“There’s over a kilogram of gold here,” Su Wan said calmly. “At current market prices, it’s more than enough to cover the debt.”
Li Bao was a seasoned criminal; he licked his lips greedily. “I’ll have to verify if it’s real and check the weight first! Er Hu...”
Li Bao jerked his chin at the burly thug, signaling him to inspect the contents.
“You can check it,” Su Wan said, standing up and pulling the bag back. “But before you do, give me the contract and the IOU.”
“You’re fucking dreaming!” Li Bao snapped. “Money in one hand, goods in the other! That’s the rule!”
“The rule?” Su Wan sneered. “What’s the matter, Li Bao? Are you and your two men afraid I’ll pull a fast one?”
“I’m the one who should be worried. If you take the gold and go back on your word, what can a helpless woman like me do about it?”
“I need the original contract and the IOU in my hands to ensure the debt is settled before I give you the gold.”
As she spoke, she took a subtle half-step back, positioning herself near the half-open window.
Outside, the alley was noisy and bustling, with the faint sounds of vendors and chatter drifting in.
“Don’t make this harder than it needs to be!” Li Bao slammed his hand on the table and stood up, his face contorting. “Hand over the bag, or don’t blame me for what happens next!”
Su Wan didn't flinch. Instead, she reached out and held the bag out the window.
The bag hung open slightly, the gold within gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight.
“Look closely, Li Bao,” Su Wan said, her voice turning ice-cold. “If I let go of this bag right now, it’ll fall straight into that crowded alley.”
“Do you think anyone will pick it up? And if they do, do you think they’ll give it back to you?”
“You know how desperate I am. I have no way of getting my hands on this much gold again.”
“If you miss this chance, I won’t be able to pay back that 1.2 million for the rest of my life.”
“At that point, you really won’t get a cent out of me, no matter what you do to me...”
Her voice was quiet, but the sight of the canvas bag dangling over the edge created a suffocating tension in the room.
Li Bao’s face flushed with a mixture of rage and hesitation, his breath hitching in his throat.
He stared fixedly at Su Wan’s hand, then at the bag of gold. He realized she wasn't bluffing—she was truly prepared to destroy everything.
The standoff was so thick it was almost palpable.
Su Wan’s arm remained perfectly steady, the gold glinting in the light.
She watched Li Bao’s expression shift and spoke again. “Think about it, Li Bao. I’m just a desperate woman trying to pay my debt with the last of my belongings.”
“There are three of you here, plus your men downstairs. If the gold is fake or the weight is off, do you think I could actually escape? What would happen to my sister-in-law and nephew then?”
She paused, her gaze sweeping over the three men. “On the other hand, if I give you the gold first and you decide to keep the documents or continue to threaten my family...”
“What could a weak woman like me possibly do about it?”
“So, no matter how you look at it, I have to make sure this debt is settled before I hand anything over.”
“It’s only fair. After all, you’re the ones in control here.”
Her words acknowledged their absolute advantage while painting herself as someone with no choice but to comply.
Li Bao sneered inwardly.
He had thought Su Wan was just a naive, pampered socialite, but she was far more calculating than he’d expected.
He had indeed planned to take the gold and keep the documents so he could continue extorting her.
Since the gold’s origin was likely questionable, once it was in his hands, it was his. What could Su Wan possibly do about it?
He hadn’t expected her to see right through him.
“Hehehe... Miss Su, you really are full of surprises.”
“Fine!” Li Bao slapped his thigh. “We’ll do it your way! Er Hu, give her the papers!”
Er Hu, the burly thug blocking the door, hesitated for a moment before handing the documents to Su Wan, his eyes fixed on her warily.
Su Wan didn't pull her hand back from the window. Instead, she used her free hand to carefully take the papers.
She inspected them thoroughly once more.
The paper, the handwriting, the thumbprint, the amount... everything was correct.
A faint smile of relief touched her lips.
“They’re real,” she whispered. As she spoke, she casually slipped the documents into her pocket. With a mere thought, the papers were instantly whisked away into her system’s storage space.
At that moment, the shackles of debt were finally broken.
“Now, give me the gold!” Li Bao demanded, his eyes glued to the canvas bag.
“Fine. Here you go,” Su Wan said, her voice eerily calm.
She pulled her arm back inside and zipped the bag shut.
Then, under the watchful eyes of the three men, she tossed the bag toward Er Hu, who was stepping forward to take it.
The bag arched through the air, flying straight toward Er Hu’s face.
Er Hu instinctively reached out to catch it, his focus entirely on the heavy bag.
Now!
The moment the bag left her hand, Su Wan lunged.
Her enhanced body exploded with speed and power far beyond human limits.
She pushed off the ground with such force that the concrete floor seemed to tremble. Like an arrow released from a bow, she didn't retreat—she charged straight at Er Hu.
Er Hu had barely caught the bag when a shadow blurred into his personal space.
Su Wan’s right hand struck like a blade, whistling through the air as she delivered a precise, ruthless blow to the outer edge of Er Hu’s elbow.
Crack! The sound of breaking bone was sickeningly sharp.
“Aaargh!” Er Hu let out a blood-curdling scream. His right arm went limp with agony, and the heavy bag slipped from his grasp, plummeting toward the floor.
