Gu Huaiyu stopped cursing after a few lines, likely feeling he had lost his composure in front of Su Wan.
He took a deep breath, allowing his emotions to settle.
“Wanwan, get ready. We’re leaving immediately.”
Su Wan paused slightly.
“I won’t break the promise I made to you,” Gu Huaiyu said, looking her in the eye and emphasizing every word.
“Today, I’m taking you to see your brother!”
Su Wan was silent for about two seconds before she nodded.
“Alright.”
As Gu Huaiyu turned around, her mental power reached out like a wisp of invisible smoke, silently probing toward the small building in the Main Wing.
Su Wan’s gaze narrowed slightly.
Gu Huaian was actually not there.
Su Wan’s mental power swept through the entire building, checking every room thoroughly, but she found no trace of him.
Where could he have gone so early?
Su Wan didn’t dwell on it. Gu Huaian’s absence was actually a good thing; it saved her the trouble of having to deal with him.
Just as Su Wan was preparing to leave with Gu Huaiyu, hurried footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway.
A man in a black suit appeared at the door. He was tall with a cold, hardened face, and an old scar over his brow bone stood out sharply in the morning light.
Su Wan’s gaze lingered on him for a moment.
The aura coming from this man… he was no ordinary person.
Though there were no energy fluctuations within him, that sharp, murderous air radiating from his very bones was a mark only found on those who had spent a long time teetering on the edge of life and death.
This man was Gu Huaian’s personal bodyguard.
“Eldest Young Master,” the bodyguard said, bowing his head slightly. His posture was respectful, yet his eyes were filled with arrogance.
“The Second Young Master has returned with distinguished guests. He requested that you join them in the front hall to receive them.”
Gu Huaiyu’s face darkened instantly.
“He wants me to go?” He let out a cold laugh.
“Who does he think he is? What do his guests have to do with me?”
The bodyguard stood his ground, unmoving.
“Eldest Young Master, the Second Young Master said that these guests are extremely important to the Gu family. As the eldest son, you must attend.”
“Must attend?” Gu Huaiyu’s voice rose, his eyes churning with anger that had been suppressed for far too long.
“He certainly has quite the nerve!”
“Go back and tell him I’m busy!”
Having said that, he reached out to grab Su Wan’s wrist, intending to walk out.
The bodyguard shifted a step, blocking the doorway.
It wasn’t a large movement, but that single step perfectly sealed off their path.
Gu Huaiyu’s footsteps came to a sudden halt.
“What is the meaning of this?” His voice turned cold.
The bodyguard bowed his head again, maintaining his respectful posture, but a hint of impatience had appeared on his face.
“Eldest Young Master, the Second Young Master said to please make sure you come over! The guests are of noble status and must not be slighted!”
Gu Huaiyu glared at him, the fury in his eyes nearly tangible.
“And if I refuse?”
The bodyguard looked up at Gu Huaiyu.
His eyes were as calm as a pool of stagnant water, devoid of any emotion.
“Then, Eldest Young Master, please do not blame me for being impolite.”
“You—”
Gu Huaiyu’s fists clenched, his knuckles cracking under the strain.
While Gu Huaiyu and the bodyguard were at a standoff, Su Wan’s mental power had already reached out to investigate.
Five people were sitting in the front hall of the Gu residence.
At the head of the room sat a man in his fifties. He had a lean face, and his features carried the steady indifference of someone long accustomed to a position of high authority.
He wore a deep grey, Chinese-style shirt and was fiddling with a string of dark red prayer beads. Despite his age, he radiated a vigorous, sharp aura.
Su Wan’s mind shuddered, filled with wariness!
The energy fluctuations coming from this man were as heavy as an abyss and as steady as a mountain.
Level 4…
He was actually a Level 4 Ability User!
Her heart skipped a beat when she realized this.
Two people sat on either side below the man.
The first on the left was Yin Ji, whom she had seen last night.
His face was still somewhat pale, but his spirits seemed to have recovered quite a bit. He was currently holding a teacup, casually chatting with the person beside him.
On the right side were Meng Changhe and Wen Ruoan.
Seated below Yin Ji was Gu Huaian.
He sat at the very end of the row, his posture humble as he leaned slightly toward the Level 4 man, saying something.
Everyone present was being extremely respectful toward that man.
Who was he? With Level 4 strength…
Could he be one of the Abyss Seats?
With just a quick scan, Su Wan withdrew her mental power, not daring to probe any further.
“Eldest Young Master, the Second Young Master has given his orders. We cannot keep the guests waiting.”
“Please.”
The bodyguard’s voice was flat, but his arm blocking the doorway didn’t budge an inch.
Gu Huaiyu’s chest heaved violently; he couldn’t swallow this insult.
“I said, I’m not going!” he said, emphasizing every word.
“If you keep blocking us, believe it or not, I’ll call someone right now to—”
Before Gu Huaiyu could finish, the bodyguard took a step forward.
His burly frame closed in, his presence pressing down like a wall.
Su Wan watched the scene, her brow furrowing imperceptibly.
She didn’t want to waste time here.
The people Gu Huaian had brought back—that Level 4 stranger, Yin Ji, Meng Changhe, and Wen Ruoan—
They were all in the front hall right now.
It was dangerous for her, but it was also an opportunity.
She could observe these people up close and figure out their backgrounds.
She just had to be careful of that Level 4 man.
If she accidentally leaked even a sliver of energy and he noticed it…
Su Wan lowered her eyes, her mind already made up.
“Huaiyu.”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it fell clearly into both of their ears.
Gu Huaiyu and the bodyguard looked at her simultaneously.
Su Wan looked up at Gu Huaiyu and said,
“Since your brother says there are distinguished guests, it truly would be inappropriate for you, as the eldest son, to be absent.”
“I’ll go with you.”
Gu Huaiyu blinked in surprise, then said, “Alright.”
The bodyguard glanced at Su Wan, his eyes lingering on her face for a second before he stepped aside to clear the doorway.
“Miss Su has a sense of propriety,” he remarked with a fake smile.
Su Wan ignored him and followed Gu Huaiyu out of the East Wing.
They passed through the corridors and skirted the Main Wing; the doors to the front hall were already in sight.
Su Wan’s pace was steady and her breathing even. She looked like nothing more than an ordinary woman accompanying Gu Huaiyu to a meeting.
However, she had completely retracted her mental power within her body, ensuring not a single trace leaked out.
The doors to the front hall were wide open.
Gu Huaiyu walked ahead, his steps carrying a hint of reluctant stiffness.
Su Wan followed half a step behind him, her eyes slightly lowered in a submissive posture.
The two of them entered the front hall.
The conversation inside ceased for a moment.
Everyone’s eyes fell upon them.
Or more accurately, they fell upon Su Wan.
Su Wan didn’t care about the gazes of the others; the only one she was concerned about was the Level 4 man!
However, his gaze lingered on Su Wan for less than half a second before moving away.
It was as if he had seen an insignificant tree by the road or a trivial cloud in the sky.
That indifference wasn’t forced; it was a lack of interest that came from his very core.
