Chapter 296 · Volume 1

The Surprised Witches

An entire region declared the territory of a single race, and it was the President of the Supreme Council himself who had signed off on it.
No matter how you looked at it, this was sensational.
The reason Sophia had become the captain of this squad, besides her Magic Eye and talent, was that she was considered a formal employee of the Supreme Council.
Although the Supreme Council had recruited many people previously.
Strictly speaking, aside from the councilors' original subordinates from Blue Star who were formal employees, most of the others were merely hired contractors.
The witches, for example.
Except for a very small number of formal employees, the rest were all individuals working to pay off their debts.
Thus, Sophia was well aware of President Durandal's power and influence within the Supreme Council.
After all, the Supreme Council had been formed through Durandal's individual outreach.
It could even be said that the councilors only sat together and spoke calmly out of respect for Durandal.
Otherwise, the Supreme Council might have collapsed before it could even issue a declaration.
One could say that while Durandal was the final decision-maker for the entire Supreme Council, he was also its glue.
And yet, such a figure had actually agreed to the Origin Witch's demand, allowing the Abandoned Land to become the autonomous territory of the Witch race.
Although it hadn't been long since the people of Blue Star transmigrated to Kalim, and calling it "unprecedented" might seem a bit premature.
It had to be said that once this door was opened, one didn't even need to imagine what things would evolve into.
Other emerging races would surely demand the same rights once they found out, claiming their own territories.
The President couldn't have missed the issues that even she could see.
Yet, he had done it anyway.
Why?
She didn't understand, but now didn't seem like the time to ponder it.
Witch of Poison: “We’re coming over now. Tell us the name of the teleportation point.”
Origin Witch: “You’re coming too?”
Witch of Poison: “Yes.”
Leveling up could be done anytime, and dungeons could be run whenever, but an opportunity to learn from Lan Qingyou didn't come around often.
Despite her youthful appearance, Lan Qingyou was a leader among all Blue Star transmigrators in alchemy and Potion-making; her lessons were bound to be beneficial.
So, after a brief discussion, the dozen or so witches on Susie's side unanimously agreed to put leveling up on hold.
They would return after the lesson.
Though this meant they would be short on time with a heavy workload.
It wasn't impossible if they just put in a bit more effort.
Upon learning that Susie and the others were coming, Lan Qingyou decided to wait for them.
There were still many people here anyway; she could take her time adding them to the group.
However, since it was invitation-only, the word spread quickly, and the hundred or so people were added in no time.
After joining, everyone happily checked the announcement and chatted for a while before discovering the magic tools in the group storage.
“Can we really use these for free?”
Sophia asked Lan Qingyou in astonishment.
One had to realize that even in the Supreme Council, magic tools weren't available to just anyone.
The small quantity was one thing, but it was mainly because they were rare, so those with insufficient rank didn't get such treatment.
Of course, there was another major reason.
The few magic tools that did exist were treated as treasures by the individual councilors.
They wouldn't let anyone else use them.
Simply put, it was like a dish being on the menu, but you weren't allowed to order it. Even if you had the money, you couldn't eat it.
Yet, a small exchange center for the Witch race had over two hundred magic tools, which was more than the personal assets of some councilors.
One could only say that as expected of Kalim's top alchemist, she was incredibly wealthy and extravagant.
Sophia credited everything to Lan Qingyou's alchemy, unaware that this kind of setup was standard at Tarot Villa.
At most, Lan Qingyou was just slightly wealthier than the others.
After all, Lan Qingyou had quite a few sources of income.
And that wasn't even counting the golem industry, which she hadn't had time to start yet.
The golem industry was a massive cake.
If the industry for fully automatic golems took off, it would be a real gold mine. Buying one cost money, repairing one cost money, and recycling one cost even more money.
After all, although there were still over ten billion Blue Star transmigrators, they were few compared to the entire Kalim continent.
But if everyone bought two or three to help with their work, it would definitely yield twice the result with half the effort.
“Hey! Sophia!”
While Sophia was in shock, someone called out to her. She turned around and saw Susie and the others coming out of the building.
“Susie, you actually came.”
“Of course. The Clan Leader is teaching; how could I miss such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?”
Susie said with a smile as she walked over.
Clan Leader?
Sophia was stunned by the unfamiliar title for a moment before remembering that the Witch of the Tower was the one who created them and was the first witch.
So, calling her "Clan Leader" was perfectly appropriate.
She noticed it, and naturally, the other witches did as well.
“Alright, alright. Since everyone is here, follow me. We need to start building the magic circles here immediately,”
Lan Qingyou announced loudly from the air, clapping her hands to get everyone's attention.
“Yes, Clan Leader.”
And so, the witches switched from calling Lan Qingyou the "Witch of the Tower" to calling her "Clan Leader," just like Susie.
This gave Lan Qingyou, who had been full of spirit and ready to take command, quite a start.
But it was only for a moment. Afterward, Lan Qingyou led the hundred-plus people into the Cursed Corridor, starting from the shelter belonging to the man surnamed Na whom she had killed, where a large crater still remained.
The reason for taking this roundabout way was partly because Jiang Lan had mentioned an invisible protective membrane between the shelter and the outside; she wasn't sure if leaving would destroy it. But there was another important reason.
This location would serve as the site for the Adventurers' Guild in the Cursed Corridor.
Therefore, starting the inscriptions here was the best choice.
Although the Cursed Corridor's unique geography caused time acceleration for anything entering without protection, this curse was nothing to Lan Qingyou and the witches.
Witches, especially the ageless and immortal Origin Witch, were completely immune to such things.
In fact, in a way, the attributes of being "ageless" and "immortal" were themselves a form of curse.
This meant that the Cursed Corridor might actually be the region best suited to become the witches' autonomous territory.
After all, just because they weren't affected didn't mean others wouldn't be.
