What was the point of it?
Nan Yue opened the letter next to the enrollment certificate; judging by the handwriting, it was written by an adult, but it was so densely scribbled over with a red pen that it was nearly illegible.
All three of them felt their psychological value take a hit as they looked at the letter; such marks were definitely not formed in a short time, but must have been the result of years of daily scribbling, layer upon layer, until it reached this state.
Bai La La squeezed her eyes shut. "This thing looks like a bunch of insects."
Bai La La's psychological value was not as high as the other two; setting Nan Yue aside, Zhu Xi Ning also had high requirements for her psychological value due to her awakened ability.
Thus, she was the first to feel uncomfortable.
In fact, Bai La La was not wrong; the thick layer of ink looked like layers of insect corpses clinging to the paper.
Furthermore, all three felt a dense malice and distorted emotion radiating from those pen strokes; looking at it for too long made Bai La La feel dizzy and lightheaded.
Nan Yue also felt somewhat unwell, but she endured the discomfort to examine the letter carefully once more.
"The content is indeed indistinguishable, but I can barely make out the phrase 'Dear son'; it must have been written to him by Li Xue'er's parents."
"He must have harbored deep resentment toward the parents who sent him here."
Zhu Xi Ning sighed. "But this emotion is too extreme; it does not feel like a normal person."
"If he was being abused by the school, it is normal for his psychological state to have issues."
Nan Yue did not join their discussion and instead opened the notebook Bai La La had found.
It was a diary.
The content was not much, but it chilled the three of them to the bone.
The first entry was from when Li Xue'er was four years old; when his younger sister was born, Li Xue'er's diary had only one line.
"I hate my sister, she really should die."
The second entry was a month after the sister's birth; Li Xue'er, unable to stand the baby's noise, tried to smother her to death but was discovered by his parents.
His diary contained only one sentence.
"I did not kill her, it is all those two people's fault."
By the time the sister was one year old, the targets of the curses in Li Xue'er's diary had become his sister and his parents.
The diary only recorded two years of his life, mostly filled with rage and hatred toward his sister and parents, with some parts expressing pride and happiness after hurting his sister.
"Is... is this really something written by a four or five-year-old child?"
Zhu Xi Ning's eyes widened as she looked at the crooked characters, some of which were replaced by pinyin, feeling that the mission world was truly absurd.
"I have heard that in the mission worlds, there is a type of child called XYY syndrome. Because they have an extra chromosome, they are extremely aggressive; many lack empathy and emotional experience, making them potential criminals."
"Generally, when such a child is discovered during a prenatal checkup, doctors recommend an abortion, but if the parents insist, they will still be born."
Bai La La had been in the letter cities longer than they had, and she knew many of the mission world settings.
"XYY syndrome can only occur in boys."
After hearing Bai La La's words, Nan Yue and Zhu Xi Ning understood what was going on with Li Xue'er.
Li Xue'er was likely such an XYY child; his parents were well-off and had the child despite the doctor's warnings.
However, after the sister was born, the evil in Li Xue'er's genes was triggered, and his repeated acts of harming his sister finally forced the parents to take notice.
But since he was their biological child, they could only spend money to invest in a special school, hoping to educate their son back to normalcy.
"It cannot be... that all the children in this school... have this tendency."
Zhu Xi Ning forced a laugh as she voiced a terrifying theory, which was then confirmed by Nan Yue.
"It should be; think about what this school is called."
Zhengmiao Childcare School.
Zhengmiao... it meant the seedlings of the nation in this school were all crooked, needing to be straightened...
"Then the person in charge..."
Zhu Xi Ning mouthed the words, and Nan Yue pondered for a moment. "We will go ask Director Wu tomorrow."
When the information they held was incomplete, NPCs would not provide them with more clues.
But now that Nan Yue and the others were only one step away from the truth, they should be able to ask for more.
Meanwhile, Xu Yuan and Zhao Zhenzhen began the Dormitory Inspection.
They started ten minutes early, just in case.
Initially, both were extremely tense, but after peacefully inspecting the first few rooms, they both relaxed slightly.
"The same trap wouldn't happen two days in a row; we should be fine, right?"
Zhao Zhenzhen swallowed hard and spoke to Xu Yuan in a low voice.
Xu Yuan did not respond; he had a bad premonition.
The premonition came true in the next room.
"Where is the other student from your dormitory?"
There was only one girl in that girls' dormitory; the other girl was not in the room.
Xu Yuan's scalp prickled, and he became as jumpy as a startled bird.
"She went to the restroom."
The girl rubbing her eyes said softly, "She will be back in a moment."
Zhao Zhenzhen breathed a sigh of relief. "The restroom, that is good then."
Xu Yuan practically wanted to curse her for being stupid; the people before had never mentioned anyone being absent during the Dormitory Inspection.
"When did she go?"
The girl answering the question looked a bit dazed. "A few minutes ago?"
Now even Zhao Zhenzhen realized something was wrong; they had been in the hallway the whole time and had not seen any girl going to the restroom.
"How is that possible? We have been outside the whole time, and no one went to the restroom!"
The girl also got angry. "Does the teacher mean I am lying!"
Xu Yuan quickly offered a few words of comfort, and once he saw the girl was no longer angry, he said, "We will go check the other dormitories first; perhaps she will be back by then."
The girl grumbled a bit and closed the door.
"Xu Yuan, what should we do?"
Zhao Zhenzhen was at a loss, but Xu Yuan gritted his teeth. "Finish inspecting the remaining dormitories first; if she is still not there, you go check the restroom."
There was no other way at this point, so the two of them quickly finished inspecting the rest of the rooms; when they returned to the dormitory that was missing a person, the same girl as before opened the door.
"She still hasn't come back; teacher, what should we do? Could something have happened to her?"
The girl was also frightened; her eyes turned red, and she reached out to grab Xu Yuan.
Xu Yuan, however, took a step back.
"Stay in the dormitory and do not come out; the teacher will go look for her."
The girl froze for a moment, then nodded. "Okay."
But as soon as the dormitory door closed, Xu Yuan turned and left immediately.
"What... what is it?"
Xu Yuan was covered in cold sweat, and he said through gritted teeth, "Didn't you notice? The clothes she was wearing were different."
Zhao Zhenzhen was stunned. "Were they?"
Xu Yuan did not want to talk; he had clearly seen a cherry hair clip on the girl's pajamas; it was on the left side at first, then it moved to the right.
Although it was possible the girl had moved it herself, Xu Yuan did not think so.
If they tried to find someone now, they might wake up the other students, and they would violate the rules then.
"What do we do?"
Xu Yuan gritted his teeth and checked the box for full attendance on the Dormitory Inspection log.
