Nan Yue glanced at her. "Going to the restroom."
Zhao Zhenzhen refused to let go. "Are you leaving me alone in the dormitory?"
Zhu Xi Ning, seemingly expecting this, said calmly, "I am not going. I will stay in the dormitory."
Hearing that she would not be left alone, Zhao Zhenzhen slowly released Nan Yue's hand.
Bai La La and Nan Yue stepped out the door.
Someone was already waiting outside; it was Jiang Xi Cheng and Gu Xiang Kai.
Jiang Xi Cheng's expression was somewhat conflicted. "...Are you sure about doing this?"
Nan Yue shrugged. "There is no such thing as certainty in a mission."
Jiang Xi Cheng gave a self-deprecating laugh and wiped his face. "True. Let us just go for it then."
Earlier during dinner, amidst the chaos, Zhu Xi Ning had whispered something to Nan Yue. She had seen that if they did not leave tomorrow, no one would survive past tomorrow night.
They had less than twenty-four hours left.
Yet, as life teachers, they still had not seen anything in the students' dormitory.
However, it was impossible for there to be no hints or clues at all. Nan Yue thought of a possibility.
The sense of incongruity Nan Yue had felt during this time made her believe that the item must be in the students' dormitory.
Since it could not be found during the day, it could only be in the students' dormitory at night.
It was reasonable for the most important clue to be in the most dangerous place.
Therefore, she was going to take a risk and enter the students' dormitory between ten o'clock and the Dormitory Inspection.
This mission required a two-person team. She chose Bai La La because Bai La La's small stature would be a great advantage if they needed to search under the beds.
She also needed someone to lead the children away, and the two life teachers, Jiang Xi Cheng and Gu Xiang Kai, were the most suitable for that.
Jiang Xi Cheng had been hesitant when he heard the plan. He marveled at Nan Yue's boldness because the two people who went inside to search were undoubtedly in the most danger.
But he also felt that the mission was becoming increasingly perilous. Since Nan Yue was willing to take the initiative to go inside, he did not mind providing support.
"By the way, that newcomer named Chi He refused to participate."
Jiang Xi Cheng was well aware of the cowardice of newcomers, but at such a critical moment, he felt a bit of psychological imbalance that someone would not participate.
To his surprise, the others in front of him accepted the news quite well.
"Ignore him," Nan Yue said.
As they spoke, the four of them arrived at Li Xue'er's dormitory. Jiang Xi Cheng and Gu Xiang Kai knocked on the door. The door opened, and Li Xue'er and another girl poked their heads out.
"Teacher, is it time for the Dormitory Inspection already? It is too early."
Jiang Xi Cheng smiled gently. "No, it is just that I heard two little friends were very brave today in protecting Teacher Nan. Teacher made a cake in secret and is taking you to eat it."
Li Xue'er's eyes lit up. "Really?"
She looked at Nan Yue beside him. "I want Teacher Nan to come with us."
Nan Yue hesitated slightly, then took Gu Xiang Kai's place and headed to the cafeteria with Jiang Xi Cheng and the two children.
Gu Xiang Kai and Bai La La entered the room, racing against time.
Because they knew how dangerous it was right now, the two of them did not bother hiding their actions once they entered and began quickly flipping through documents.
Bai La La, taking advantage of her small size, crawled directly under the bed.
As expected, the students' dormitory at night, before the Dormitory Inspection, was different from what Gu Xiang Kai and the others had seen during the day.
There was dried blood on the beds and walls—all of them old marks.
There were even nail scratches on the bed boards and desks, clearly left behind by someone struggling.
Gu Xiang Kai found an enrollment certificate and a letter in the bookshelf. He did not have time to read them and stuffed them directly into his bag.
Meanwhile, Bai La La crawled out from under the bed, her arms full of something that looked like a notebook.
"Let us go. They should be back soon."
Bai La La's sense of time was stronger than Gu Xiang Kai's. Although Gu Xiang Kai knew from Nan Yue that Bai La La was not actually deaf and mute, he was still a bit stunned when he actually heard her speak.
They had just closed the door and sat down in the hall when Nan Yue and the others returned with the two children.
Li Xue'er clearly liked Nan Yue very much; she kept holding Nan Yue's hand and chattering away.
When they reached the dormitory door, she seemed a bit reluctant to let go.
"Teacher Nan, we all like you very much. Please stay as our teacher forever, okay?"
A somewhat sorrowful look appeared on Li Xue'er's face. "Only you are truly good to us."
Nan Yue patted her head. "Go back to sleep."
Nan Yue, who had been observing the girl's expression, saw Li Xue'er's face twist for a second when she did not hear the answer she wanted, before returning to normal.
"We found it."
The time for the Dormitory Inspection was drawing near. Gu Xiang Kai directly shoved the two pieces of paper he had found into Nan Yue's hand.
His mind was average, so keeping them with him would not be very useful.
Nan Yue took the papers without refusing, and the four of them quickly returned to their dormitory.
Seeing Nan Yue return, Zhao Zhenzhen ran over excitedly.
"You went to look for clues, didn't you? Using the restroom wouldn't take that long. Tell me quickly, what is it!"
Nan Yue glanced at Zhao Zhenzhen and looked up to point at the clock.
"It is time for you to do the Dormitory Inspection."
At the same time, the dormitory door was knocked open. Xu Yuan stood at the door with a dark expression, looking as if he would kill Zhao Zhenzhen if she dared to make a scene.
Zhao Zhenzhen bit her lower lip, her eyes filled with tears as she walked out unwillingly.
Nan Yue sighed softly. Having no time for other thoughts, she listened as Bai La La quickly described the changes in the dormitory.
"I do not know if Li Xue'er and the others are already dead, killed in their own dormitory. In any case, judging by the marks in the room, it is impossible for anyone to be alive."
Bai La La opened the enrollment certificate Gu Xiang Kai had found. It was indeed Li Xue'er's. There was a prominent mark on the enrollment certificate that usually would not be there.
It noted Li Xue'er's family background.
Her parents were the ones who had funded the construction of this Zhengmiao Childcare School.
"No wonder she acts like a little princess in school. Her parents are the investors."
Zhu Xi Ning frowned. "But since her parents are so rich, why would they send their child here?"
The enrollment certificate only listed Li Xue'er's education level, age, and that the teachers needed to pay special attention to her.
Though it was called an enrollment certificate, Nan Yue felt it was more like a personal introduction of a life.
"Li Xue'er is not an only child. There is a younger sister at home."
"Wait, that is not right..."
Zhu Xi Ning looked at it again and again. "Why is the gender written as male!"
She thought her eyes were playing tricks on her at first, but after looking several times, she found it really did say male.
Yet, whether it was the Li Xue'er they saw every day or the photo on the enrollment certificate, it was definitely a little girl.
Zhu Xi Ning gave a dry laugh. "Is it a typo..."
To be honest, she usually just glanced at such obvious information, so when she discovered it just now, she thought she had misread it.
Nan Yue was also looking at those words. "If it were in the real world, it might be a printing error, but in a mission world, that is impossible."
Zhu Xi Ning thought, feeling as if she were breaking down, that the girl who dressed so cutely and called her teacher every day was actually a boy.
How strange. A boy dressed like a girl?
