Chapter 259 · Volume 1

Baiting

Yin Yang could feel himself growing stronger at a rapid pace.
His spirituality continued to surge, only slowing down when it was on the verge of breaking through to Sequence 6.
Yin Yang clenched his fists. He had never felt so good; the world before him was clearer, as if a nearsighted person had suddenly put on a pair of glasses.
“What exactly is this?”
He murmured softly.
The rapid increase in strength didn't make him lose his head; instead, he became increasingly vigilant.
He still hadn't found the reason why his consciousness had been pulled to the back of the divine kingdom.
...
The Lyu family.
The Old Master sat on the sofa, his expression dull and his face pale, looking as if he had aged another ten years. Before him, Old Fourth and Old Fifth were kneeling on the ground.
The two were in a wretched state. Old Fourth's right arm had been severed at the shoulder, and his face was covered in bruises.
Old Fifth was wrapped in bandages, his face filled with despair.
“Why... why did you kill Tong'er?”
The Old Master's voice was extremely hoarse, sounding as if he hadn't had a drop of water in days.
“Dad, Tong'er was my nephew! Why would I kill him?”
“If you don't believe us, you can use a transcendent item to interrogate me!”
“I swear, we only took a few antiques. We didn't do anything else!”
Old Fourth suppressed his anger; after all, anyone would be upset if they were wrongly accused.
Beside him, Old Fifth nodded repeatedly.
“We only drugged the servants and Tong'er's group. We really don't know anything about the rest.”
Hearing their defense, the Old Master leaned back against the sofa.
“You two took all the transcendent items with you, which is why you're so confident telling me to use one to interrogate you, isn't it?”
“I'll ask one more time: why did you kill Tong'er!”
The Old Master practically roared the last sentence.
His eyes were bloodshot as he pointed at the two of them.
“You should know exactly what kind of character Old Second has without me saying a word.”
“You killed his son and his favorite grandson. What kind of end do you think you'll have?”
“I didn't kill them! And I didn't take it!”
Old Fourth stiffened his neck.
“Dad, even if you're my father, you can't frame people, can you?”
“Since I was a kid, have I ever lied and refused to admit to something I actually did?”
“And his son is your grandson, but aren't our sons your grandsons too?”
“Dad! Don't you know what he's done?”
“He killed Eldest Brother, he killed Third Brother, and now he wants to kill us!”
“A family head who secretly cripples us and refuses to let the family branch out—is that what you want?”
“I won't accept it!”
The Old Master stepped forward and slapped him across the face, but Old Fourth kept his neck stiff.
The Old Master slapped him again, cursing as he struck.
“I'm asking you, where is the liver?”
“What liver?”
“The natural transcendent liver!!!”
“I don't know!”
“Hahaha, fine, fine. It seems killing your nephew and grand-nephew wasn't enough; you want to kill me too. Fine, fine, fine.”
“I didn't!”
“Didn't what? Have a conscience?”
The Old Master sat back on the sofa and let out a long breath.
“Old Fourth, Old Fifth, do you know how I managed to save you two from Old Second's hands?”
Old Fourth and Old Fifth were stunned and looked up at the Old Master in unison.
They had originally thought they survived because they weren't a threat to Old Second.
Now it sounded like their father had something to do with it?
The Old Master spoke each word slowly.
“It was because of your ability to have children!”
Old Fourth jumped up instantly, his face flushing so red he looked like he wanted to eat someone. Blood began to seep through the bandages on his freshly wrapped stump, showing just how agitated he was.
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
A heavy footstep sounded, and the previously furious Old Fourth instantly collapsed into terror.
He was all too familiar with that footstep; he had heard it countless times in his nightmares. It was Old Second's footstep.
“Dad, I gave them a chance.”
“If I act now, you won't have anything left to say, will you?”
The Old Master didn't say a word. Hearing this, Old Fifth hurriedly crawled to the Old Master's feet and grabbed his leg.
“Dad, Dad, what Fourth Brother said is true! At this point, what reason would we have to lie?”
“Dad, I beg you, don't let Old Second kill me. You only have three sons left, and Fourth Brother is already crippled. You need someone by your side to serve you!”
The Old Master still didn't speak.
Cold sweat poured down Old Fourth's face. Listening to the approaching footsteps, he suddenly turned to look at the Old Master.
“Dad, we really didn't take it. We only took some antiques. I really don't know where that natural transcendent liver is.”
“But if you just give me some time, I'll definitely get another one for you!”
“Hahahaha!”
Lyu Xiaofeng couldn't help but burst into laughter when he heard this.
“Get another natural transcendent? Do you have any idea how much I spent just to get that one liver?”
“With just you, a parasite, how could you get one? By dreaming?”
Faced with Lyu Xiaofeng's mockery, Old Fourth didn't dare say a word, only looking at the Old Master with a face full of terror.
He looked like a child seeing their parent after being bullied.
The Old Master, however, remained silent, watching as the hope in his son's eyes slowly vanished.
Old Fourth gave a bitter laugh.
“Fine, I admit it. I took the transcendent items and the natural transcendent liver.”
“Fourth Brother, you're crazy!”
Old Fifth, kneeling on the ground, snapped his head up and looked at Old Fourth in disbelief.
Old Fourth's smile grew even more bitter.
“Old Fifth doesn't know because I didn't want to split the money with him, so I only told him we were taking antiques.”
“In reality, I took all the transcendent items too.”
Old Fifth's eyes turned red; he already understood what his brother was trying to do.
“Where is the natural transcendent liver?”
“In the black market.”
“Take me there!”
“Alright.”
Hearing there was a lead on the natural transcendent liver, the Old Master felt as if his body had improved slightly, though it might have been an illusion.
...
“The Lyu family was used.”
“Yeah. That masked man probably has some grudge against the Lyu family, which is why he intentionally broke into their house to attract those looking for the bounty.”
“In other words, as long as we investigate the Lyu family's past, we can find clues about the masked man.”
“It's a bit troublesome, but at least it's a direction.”
“Yeah.”
Jade Dog and Red Fox had already left the Lyu family estate.
“I think that butler had a point. That masked man might not actually be a Demigod.”
“Are you saying he's not Lyu Xiaofeng's match, so he didn't go after Lyu Xiaofeng and just took his anger out on the family instead?”
“Yeah.”
“But have you considered this? The masked man has been wearing a mask the whole time. Who can be sure that's his real body?”
“Maybe... it's just an avatar?”
“Hiss.”
Jade Dog nodded, thinking Red Fox's logic made a lot of sense.
If that were the case, it would explain why the masked man's strength seemed to fluctuate.
“So what do we do now?”
“He can use the Lyu family as bait; why can't we?”
The two looked at each other and burst into laughter.
