Chapter 258 · Volume 1

Could I Have Done Something Huge?

“When did this situation start?”
“This won't do. I have to resolve this. If this happens suddenly during a battle, wouldn't I be dead for sure?”
Yin Yang pondered while resisting the pull on his consciousness.
Sensing something was wrong with his state, the four ghosts emerged one after another and gathered around him.
Canned Food also looked up at Yin Yang. Forcing himself to stand, Yin Yang began walking toward his residence.
“I'm going to sleep for a while. Protect me.”
“Meow!”
Canned Food let out a serious cry, as if saying, “Leave it to me.”
Yin Yang collapsed onto the bed. The blade-wielding ghost pulled down the rolling shutter, while the lantern-carrying ghost shrank in size and opened its large umbrella, shielding Yin Yang beneath it.
He closed his eyes, and his consciousness once again traveled to the back of the divine kingdom.
It was that same feeling of immense weight, with disordered murmurs echoing in his ears.
He managed to force his eyes open and saw that the scene was different this time. He seemed to be in a cave, with one or two hundred little people kneeling before him.
Noticing that Yin Yang had awakened, those little people became incredibly excited.
“True God, you have finally awakened!”
“Our divine kingdom has fallen; those heretics are devouring your faith!”
“True God! Please bestow your divine power and let us fight in your stead!”
The leading little man knelt, his expression a mix of fanaticism and fury.
Yin Yang tried to speak, but he found it impossible.
His body was like stone, completely immobile; he could only observe.
When no answer came from Yin Yang for a long time, the people grew anxious.
“True God, please bestow your divine power!”
“The divine kingdom has been breached. We are your last remaining believers!”
“Please bestow your divine power and let us spread your glory once more!”
Yin Yang could not act, could not express anything, and could not even leave.
He could only try to use his abilities: Perception and Communion.
Yet these abilities, which were like instincts to him, could not be used at this moment.
The feeling was extremely bizarre.
It was like how an amnesiac wouldn't forget their mother tongue or how to ride a bike because those things had become part of their instinct.
But now, his instincts had actually vanished!
“Sacrifice!!!”
Seeing that Yin Yang still hadn't responded, one of them let out a loud shout. The people behind him dragged several living people forward and began to slaughter them accompanied by a dance.
The scene was exceptionally bloody, with gore staining the ground red.
Waves of complex energy surged toward Yin Yang, and he had no way to stop them.
He could only watch as that energy approached and then tunneled into his body.
However, that energy was like a stone sinking into the sea, failing to stir even a single ripple.
“Hmm? He hasn't revived?”
The person who had called for the sacrifice stood up, and there wasn't a trace of respect left on his face.
The people behind him also stood up one by one. One of them spat on a corpse on the ground.
“Pah! What a waste of so many captives.”
“What's there to waste? We'll cut off their heads in a bit, and they'll still count as military merits!”
“Hey, do you think the sacrifice didn't work because the offerings were all His own believers?”
“Hahahaha~”
“Hahahaha!”
The people around him burst into loud laughter, their voices filled with mockery and devoid of any piety.
Yin Yang, however, remained focused on their clothing.
The style of the clothes they wore was somewhat similar to the cloth armor from two hundred years ago.
No one wore that kind of cloth armor anymore; after all, modern firearms had been improved to the point where such ordinary armor offered no protection at all.
“Is this some backward country, or a memory projection from a century ago?”
Although Yin Yang couldn't use his abilities right now, he was exceptionally calm, and his brain seemed to be thinking a few beats faster.
“It's normal that it didn't work. We've used the same trick many times already. Even a god should have realized what's going on by now, unless He's an idiot.”
“I have to say, gods with authority are the best. There's so much divinity!”
“Divinity is secondary. The main thing is the authority. He doesn't have much authority left.”
“Did the boss say how much more divinity is needed?”
“Shh, don't talk about this in front of the statue.”
“What are you afraid of? He hasn't even awakened.”
“What if?”
“Old Wei has a point. Let's be careful.”
Only after glancing back at Yin Yang did those people shut their mouths.
Yin Yang looked at the scattered remains of the sacrifices on the ground and keenly noticed some tattoo marks. They were the same tattoos he had seen on the little people the first time he came to the back of the divine kingdom.
In other words, the group that attacked back then had been victorious.
They had taken the true believers of this deity and used them as sacrifices to the deity itself?
Yin Yang couldn't help but click his tongue at the thought.
If this was true, then these people had truly offended this god to the extreme.
“If those murmurs weren't them calling out to me, then who was it?”
While Yin Yang was pondering this, his body began to dissipate bit by bit.
The way it dissipated was peculiar. It didn't shatter; instead, like stone carvings weathered by the wind for countless years, the traces of its existence were being erased bit by bit.
Yin Yang felt lightheaded, as if his own existence was being erased along with the statue.
“No, no, no. I haven't found my internal organs yet.”
“I worked so hard to come back to life. How can I die in a place like this?”
Hum~
In response to his will, the walls of the cave began to crack.
“What's happening?”
“Is the statue causing this?”
“Why are you still talking at a time like this? Let's go!”
The people sprinted toward the cave exit, and the few in the lead even flew up—they were clearly Demigods.
One of them looked back while flying out and saw the statue that was supposed to vanish shrinking rapidly. It turned into a black shadow and 'flowed' away through the cracks.
...
Yin Yang snapped his eyes open and found himself in the divine kingdom.
Several big-headed matchstick men were looking at him with worried expressions.
And in front of him stood a black stone statue that could barely be recognized as having a human shape.
The statue was only a little over two meters tall and looked very blurred.
Given that everything in the divine kingdom was naturally distorted, Yin Yang couldn't see it clearly at all, but he had a strong premonition.
This statue was the very one he had just possessed!
“What's going on? How did this statue end up in the divine kingdom?”
“And why did I wake up in the divine kingdom? What about me in the real world?”
Just as Yin Yang was thinking through the reasons as best he could, he suddenly noticed something was wrong.
His strength was skyrocketing!
The power he had accumulated in just this short while was more than what he had gained in the previous month.
“The High Priest is the bridge connecting god and man.”
“The way to accumulate spirituality is to let more people know about and believe in the god they serve.”
“But what if one could make a god believe in another god?”
Yin Yang stared at the black stone statue before him, dumbfounded.
“Could I... have done something huge?”
...
Huangshan City.
Yin Yang slowly opened his eyes as his spiritual power surged upward!
“Phew~”
