"It's me."
The voice coming from outside the door carried a hint of familiarity.
Searching through the memories of the body's original owner, Olivia Melianne quickly found the person who matched that voice.
It was Bethany Moulding, a fellow novice nun at the monastery.
Because Bethany lived right next door and shared the same status, they spoke to each other more often than with others, making them relatively close.
Olivia immediately went forward and opened the door.
In the hallway stood Bethany, dressed in the same nun's habit. She had brown hair and brown eyes, a light dusting of freckles on her face, and large eyes that gave her an air of youthful innocence.
Upon seeing Olivia, Bethany said hurriedly, "We have to go. Prayer is about to begin."
Olivia was startled for a moment, but then the original owner's memories surfaced, letting her understand what time it was.
In the monastery, novice nuns underwent a learning process to become full sisters.
Mastering meditation methods was one part of it, but they also had to study various internal church doctrines, the structure of the church and society, and matters concerning transcendents.
Additionally, they were required to pray devoutly before the statue of the Radiant Goddess at specific times every day.
Occasionally, the nuns were required to leave the monastery to perform social services, providing aid such as education and medical assistance to the poor, which also served as a form of proselytizing.
In short, it was now time for prayer.
"Let's go," Olivia said, quickly closing her door and lifting the long skirts of her habit as she and Bethany jogged down the hallway.
The monastery grounds were vast. The buildings were all designed with domed roofs and silver-white exterior walls. Lush summer vegetation was scattered throughout the monastery, forming a harmonious decoration. Now, painted by the hues of dusk, everything seemed draped in a dim, golden veil.
Inside a grand cathedral, many novice nuns had already arrived, praying devoutly in their respective spots.
Though Olivia and Bethany were not early, they weren't late either. The elderly nun in charge of them, Brittany Mason, merely glanced at them. Seeing them take their places to pray obediently, she withdrew her gaze.
The content of the prayers was already etched into the original owner's heart, so Olivia followed along easily, though she couldn't help but feel strange deep down.
She didn't believe in gods at all, even if deities truly existed in this world.
'Magic mirror, magic mirror, I don't believe in the gods. Will the Radiant Goddess notice?'
【No, Master. Deities do not casually cast their gaze upon their followers.】
Olivia was startled by the information that surfaced in her mind. She hadn't even taken the magic mirror out—could she use it like this?
She immediately confirmed this with the magic mirror and received an affirmative answer.
As a bound item that had recognized her as its master, the magic mirror could indeed provide answers to Olivia's silent questions without being taken out. However, when Olivia spoke to it in her mind, she had to include the magic mirror's title as a prefix to create a connection; otherwise, the magic mirror would not perceive it.
This discovery suddenly made the prayer process much less boring.
She began asking the magic mirror all sorts of questions in her mind, covering every aspect of this world.
Although the magic mirror was currently damaged and could only perceive things within the monastery, the amount of information contained within these walls was still enormous. In particular, the contents of the books here could not be hidden from the magic mirror, and they touched upon the outside world to some extent.
With this, Olivia rapidly gained an understanding of many things about this world.
While she possessed the original owner's memories and knew many basic facts, the girl hadn't actually known that much.
After all, this body was only sixteen years old. Before becoming a nun at the monastery, the original owner had grown up in a closed environment. Her perception of the world was merely a collection of fragments—a blurry outline.
Before she knew it, the prayer session ended.
By now, the sky had darkened. Looking out through the cathedral windows, one could see a massive crimson moon hanging high in the night sky, appearing exceptionally close to the earth.
The crimson moonlight spilled over the imperial capital of Kaliron and into the monastery, staining the buildings with an eerie hue.
The middle-aged nun, Brittany Mason, stood at the front of the cathedral. Her slightly wrinkled face showed no emotional fluctuations as she gazed at the many novice nuns with a serene expression.
Even though the prayer had ended, Brittany did not speak, and the novice nuns did not dare to leave without permission.
Although this batch of novice nuns hadn't been at the monastery for very long, they already had a preliminary understanding of Brittany. They knew this woman was rigid, serious, cold, and fierce; no one wanted to offend her.
Previously, someone who hadn't listened to Brittany was taken away and locked in the dark room to transcribe "The Goddess's Revelations" for an entire day.
By the time she came out of the dark room, that nun couldn't even lift her hands, and her eyes were watery for several days, leaving the other nuns feeling a chill in their hearts.
After a moment of silence, Brittany finally spoke slowly.
"Prayer has ended, but there are some matters I need to tell you seriously.
"Recently, Kaliron has not been very peaceful. You must not lose your necessary vigilance just because you are in the imperial capital. If you go out, you must be on guard against any strangers, especially those of you who are going to perform social services soon.
"Many damned heretical organizations, for various reasons, may be converging toward Kaliron.
"The sinful people of those heretical organizations are like monstrous creatures devoid of humanity. Seeing nuns like you, they would likely want to take a bite out of you.
"Of course, you need not be overly anxious. Under the light of the Radiant Goddess, all evil and all heresy will eventually be sent to the stake!
"You only need to maintain basic vigilance.
"Finally, remember that if you see anyone acting suspiciously, report it to the monastery or to any church. That person is very likely a member of a heretical organization!"
Listening to Brittany's words, the novice nuns looked at each other in surprise.
This was the first time Brittany had told everyone to be wary of heresy in such a serious tone.
Everyone understood that something might have happened, even if they didn't know the details.
'Magic mirror, magic mirror, is Kaliron truly not peaceful lately?'
Olivia didn't have to guess like the other nuns; she could just ask the magic mirror directly.
【Yes, my wise Master. Although I cannot know the specific reasons based solely on information within the monastery, it is certain that different heretical organizations are indeed converging on Kaliron.】
The term "heretical organization" represented evil, cruelty, horror, bloodshed... every negative word could be attributed to them.
The fact that many heretical organizations were converging at once was indeed enough to cause panic.
Except...
Olivia thought of her own identity and rubbed her brow with a bit of a headache.
She, Olivia Melianne, was exactly a member of a heretical organization—the Rose Legion. She had been arranged to enter the monastery belonging to the Radiant Light Church as an undercover mole.
