Chapter 22 · Volume 1

A Swordsmanship Genius

“The same old three-on-one routine, huh? I thought you guys would have the guts to face me one-on-one this time,” Tyr said in a mocking tone.
“But during the final moments of the Grand Election, ganging up on someone isn't allowed.”
The Grand Election of the Callis family was meant to select the strongest swordsman of this generation, so they naturally wouldn't allow group beatdowns.
“Then we'll just beat you so badly before then that you'll be scarred for life.”
Silas stomped his foot hard and was the first to charge at Tyr.
Traumatizing opponents beforehand was a tactic well within the rules.
Setting aside the fact that the position of Grand Duke would never go to someone who was too traumatized to unleash their full power, even reaching the realm of a Demigod required an unwavering state of mind.
This was also one of the reasons why bullying was so rampant in the Sword Prison—intimidating opponents before the Grand Election even began.
Instead of stopping this, the instructors of the Sword Prison were actually pleased to see it.
After all, the education system of the Sword Prison was inherently designed for conflict.
“You really talk big. Where does a guy who looked for trouble three times and got beaten up by me three times get the confidence to traumatize me?”
Silas's sword strike came with fierce momentum, but Tyr simply parried upward, deflecting the force behind his blade.
Then, with a twist of his sword, he blocked Letitia's slash before kicking away Barry, who was trying to sneak attack him from the side.
The other reserves around them watched the battle of the four with great interest.
Fights between reserves like this occurred every day in the Sword Prison.
No one didn't want to become the Grand Duke of Callis, especially those whose training results were consistently at the top.
Of course, what astonished them the most was that Tyr, a newcomer, could actually fight on equal terms against Letitia's group of three.
The lower-ranked reserves, who had absolutely no chance, could only watch Tyr with faces full of envy.
But those reserves who still had a shot at competing looked at Tyr with eyes full of wariness.
On the outskirts of the training field, Tina was also paying close attention to this battle.
Seeing how easily Tyr could deflect the attacks of Letitia's group, a solemn expression appeared on Tina's face.
To neutralize an opponent's attack with such effortless ease as Tyr did, one had to see the weak point of their strike at a single glance.
This was by no means an easy feat, especially when being pinched by three people at once.
Most importantly, he was only of this age. Even if he had been practicing the sword with Marquis Lanier all this time, how long could he have possibly been learning?
To possess such strength in such a short amount of time...
This could only mean that Tyr's talent for swordsmanship was extremely formidable.
He was yet another swordsmanship genius.
Not just an ordinary genius, but one who could be considered a genius even within a sword-focused family like Callis.
With such talent, as long as nothing went wrong in the future, he would definitely secure a spot among the Grand Duke candidates.
Just as Tina was acknowledging Tyr's talent in swordsmanship, Tyr twirled his sword with a backhand strike, hitting Letitia directly on her fingers.
“Ugh!”
Letitia let go in pain. Tyr swept his sword downward violently, sending Letitia's wooden sword flying with a sharp strike.
The direction the sword flew in happened to be right toward the charging Barry.
Barry hurriedly raised his sword to block, hoping to deflect the incoming wooden sword. However, it scraped against his blade and slammed hard into his right shoulder joint.
“Ah!”
Although it was just an unsharpened wooden sword, the tip was still pointed, and getting struck by it was incredibly painful.
After this blow, whenever Barry tried to lift his sword, a piercing pain would shoot through his shoulder.
“Now, it's just you left,” Tyr said, turning to look at Silas with a pure, innocent smile.
At this moment, facing Tyr's smile, Silas felt a chill run down his spine.
Before he could react, Tyr had already lunged in front of him, slashing his wooden sword upward from below.
In his haste, Silas raised his sword to slash downward and block.
The moment the two swords collided, Tyr shifted his wooden sword's stance, applied force from his wrist, and gave it a sudden twist.
Silas felt an uncontrollable force surge through his wooden sword, and it flew right out of his grip.
Tyr instantly changed his move, bringing his hand down to strike the hilt of his sword heavily against Silas's collarbone.
“Ah!”
Since the three of them came together, they had to be treated equally.
It wouldn't do for Letitia and Barry to suffer in pain while Silas only got his sword knocked away.
“Did you guys think that because I haven't been learning the sword for long, you could target me with swordsmanship?”
Having just been beaten up by him outside, only to turn around and look for trouble on the drill grounds again, Tyr naturally had no trouble guessing their thoughts.
“A pity for you, I've been learning the sword for a very long time. Bare-handed, you might last a few moves, but with swords in hand, you'll only get beaten down even faster.”
Having a weapon in hand was far more lethal than fighting bare-handed. With Tyr showing no mercy, the three no longer had any ability to resist.
Letitia's hand had taken a heavy blow from Tyr's wooden sword, and she couldn't even hold her weapon steady now. Barry could hold his sword, but he couldn't lift his arm.
As for Silas, who had just been struck on the collarbone with Tyr's sword hilt, he was in a similar state to Barry.
“It seems Marquis Lanier indeed taught his son a great deal. As an outstanding figure of the previous generation's Grand Election, he must have a clearer understanding of the survival environment here.”
When Tyr said he had been learning the sword for a long time, Tina naturally assumed it was Marquis Lanier's doing.
In reality, Tyr had only been learning the sword from his old man for about a week.
That guy had truly intended to take his wife and child to hide from this generation's Grand Election, but in the end, they were still tracked down by the Callis family.
However, he had also considered the possibility of being found, which was why he had started teaching Tyr swordsmanship a week ago.
After knocking the three down, Tyr walked over to the side on his own to start practicing his swordsmanship.
He didn't practice the Chinese swordsmanship he had learned in his past life, but rather the swordsmanship his father had taught him.
These were two completely different paths of the sword. The style of swordsmanship in this world leaned closer to the Western style of Tyr's past life.
Tyr had thought about merging the swordsmanship of both worlds, but before that, he had to continuously deepen his understanding of the swordsmanship here.
While Tyr was practicing, Letitia and the other two quickly used potions to heal their injuries.
Glaring fiercely at Tyr's back, they each found an empty space and began practicing their swordsmanship as well.
The clash with Tyr just now had made them deeply realize the gap in their swordsmanship.
Seeing that the entertainment was over, the other reserves also began practicing on their own.
