Chapter 21 · Volume 1

Never Learning His Lesson

On the drill grounds, all the reserves held up their wooden swords with tense muscles and solemn expressions.
Tina walked through the ranks, observing each reserve's posture.
What she wanted wasn't just for them to hold the swords up, but to keep their bodies perfectly steady and maintain correct posture.
When she walked past Tyr, Silas, and the others, Tina was quite satisfied with their performance.
With the enhancement of magic power and the Sword Qi Body Tempering Technique, their physical stamina far surpassed that of ordinary people.
Of course, even in the Callis family, there would always be a mix of good and bad. For instance, there were those few who had been in agonizing pain back on Training Field No. 1, unable to even run their cultivation techniques properly.
Let alone holding a steady posture, they struggled to even lift the swords in their hands.
Without having condensed a Magic Circle and with their poor progress in the Sword Qi Body Tempering Technique, their physical strength was not much greater than that of ordinary children.
But if they thought they could get out of training because of this, they were sorely mistaken.
Tina raised a hand and pointed, shooting several wisps of magic power from her fingertips into the reserves who were swaying unsteadily.
Instantly, the few of them felt their bodies raise their swords completely out of their own control.
“Ah!”
The forceful pulling brought a tearing pain to their muscles, making them feel as if their wrists would snap at any moment.
Tina's magic power only controlled their movements; it did not enhance their physical strength.
Whether their muscles tore or their wrists snapped, they could be treated with potions once the training was over.
Were they angry that the instructors only paid attention to the top students? Resentful that they were being ignored as underachievers?
In the Sword Prison, the instructors treated every reserve equally. No matter how useless you were, the instructors would help you complete your training.
As for how they helped, that was none of your business.
“Instead of wasting your energy howling here, you'd do better to put that strength into your hands.”
Tina's tone was cold. She felt no pity just because these reserves were only children.
As one of the most important places in the Callis family, those who could serve as instructors in the Sword Prison were essentially the cream of the crop from the aristocratic system.
They all shared a common trait: absolute loyalty to the family.
They despised those who only enjoyed the privileges brought by the family without putting in any effort to contribute to it.
Ignoring the screams of the few, Tina continued to move through the ranks.
From time to time, she would stop in front of a reserve, reaching out to grab the blade and pull, testing their grip and control over their weapon.
After completing her round, Tina couldn't help but look at Tyr a few more times. Among everyone, Tyr's posture was the steadiest and most flawless.
Tina reached out and gripped the blade of Tyr's sword, giving it a sudden, sharp pull. Tyr's body didn't budge.
As Tina gradually increased her force, Tyr's body was dragged forward, but his posture never wavered.
Like a statue, he was pulled across the training field by Tina.
“Not bad.”
After a moment, Tina let go, offering her first word of praise.
Among the current batch of reserves, Tyr clearly had the best foundation.
Half an hour later.
“Everyone, rest for ten minutes. After ten minutes, we will begin free training. Of course, I will offer guidance on your training when appropriate.”
As children of the Callis family, it was impossible for them to have absolutely no foundation, so there was no need to teach Tyr from scratch just because he had newly arrived.
Thud!
Just as Tina finished speaking, the sound of several heavy objects hitting the ground rang out.
“Ah... Ah... My hands, I can't lift them at all.”
Tyr flicked his sword upward. The rope slipped off the tip, and the stone flew into the air, landing steadily in his left hand.
Turning his head toward the source of the noise, he saw the unnatural angles at which the screaming reserves' wrists were bent. Their bones had clearly fractured.
“If your legs aren't broken, get up and soak your hands in the medicinal barrels. Do you plan on practicing swordsmanship with broken hands later?”
Tina walked over to them in her high-heeled boots, her voice chillingly cold.
Tsk, for those without talent, coming here really is hell, Tyr couldn't help but sigh in his heart as he watched the grimacing, pain-distorted children get up and limp toward the medicinal barrels at the edge of the training field.
However, carrying the bloodline of the Callis family, calling them completely untalented "muggles" would also be nonsense.
Though he had only been here for a little over a day, Tyr already understood the reality of this place. To become a candidate, the very first requirement was to be ruthless enough to oneself.
Whether it was the morning's medicinal bath or the sword qi body tempering practice, without that ruthlessness and sheer willpower, one simply couldn't endure it.
Just as Tyr was about to practice some swordsmanship on his own, a sudden whistling sound cut through the air.
Tyr's head snapped to the side as a stone whipped past, barely grazing his cheek.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he turned to look in the direction the stone had come from.
Silas was holding his sword in one hand while tossing a stone up and down with the other—the exact same kind they had used earlier to train their grip.
“Do you dare to fight me?”
Silas's face was full of provocation. Fearing Tyr wouldn't agree, he hurled the stone in his hand straight at Tyr's head.
Tyr tilted his head, easily dodging the thrown stone.
“You really never learn your lesson, do you?”
In the next instant, his figure shot toward Silas at extreme speed.
Before Silas could make any effective defensive move, Tyr was already right in front of him.
With his knees slightly bent and his body lowered, Tyr used the hilt of his sword as a weapon, driving it hard into Silas's stomach.
Silas felt a sharp burst of blunt pain in his stomach, as if he had been struck hard by a jagged rock, and his entire body went flying backward.
But this time, Tyr had no intention of giving him a chance to counter. Stamping his foot down, he lunged forward once more.
Before Silas's body could even hit the ground, Tyr had already caught up to him.
“Despicable! I didn't even say start yet!”
Silas roared, trying to make Tyr stop, but Tyr had already raised his sword and slashed down.
“You didn't say start when you threw that stone at me either.”
Clang!
Just as Tyr's wooden sword was about to strike Silas, another wooden sword intervened, blocking his blade.
It was Silas's older sister, Letitia. Having finally reacted, she quickly rushed over to help.
At the same time, the sound of rushing wind came from behind. Barry appeared at Tyr's back, his wooden sword slashing toward the back of Tyr's neck.
Tapping his foot lightly, Tyr leaped high into the air, dodging Barry's attack from behind.
Flipping backward in midair, he landed safely outside the attack range of the three.
