“Puppet?” Moen slowly crawled up from the ground, a sneer appearing on her previously irritated face. “Just because that man said a few words of love to you, you’re so moved that you want to betray everything and defect to their side?”
“Ridiculous. Don’t forget, you were the one who kept feeding the Plague God’s body to the King. You are the true culprit who killed him!”
“You were also the one who brought about the disaster on Wuxin Island. When you betrayed us, did you ever think about the people you killed? Do you think you can forget all your sins just by repenting?”
“It’s too late to abandon the darkness for the light! I’m telling you, once you’re with the cult, you’re with them for life!”
“That identity won’t be stripped away just because you repent. You will never be clean, do you understand!?”
Moen’s voice was loud, cutting clearly through the howling, eerie wind.
Morai’s face was pale.
She knew everything Moen said was true.
Her hands were stained with the blood of sin. She wasn’t innocent. If a sudden change of heart could make her forget all her past sins, then this story would be truly terrible.
She didn’t want to escape her past, but she was tired of her life being manipulated.
At the very least, from now on, she wanted to live for herself.
“I indeed cannot wash away my sins, but someone said there is an answer that will save me. I believe in that answer.” Morai took a deep breath, and a bright-rank Life Crown title slowly revealed itself.
“Before that existence saves me, I must at least have the resolve to save myself.”
“So, I will do everything in my power to stop you,” Morai said.
Moen found it amusing. “A bright-rank and a top-tier trying to stop me?”
She turned and pointed toward the chaotic black storm on the horizon. “Do you see that? The gates of the abyss are about to swing wide, and that existence will fully descend upon this world.”
“This world is about to fall into endless chaos, yet you’re still thinking about stopping me?”
“How will you stop me? Or rather, how will you stop that god from descending?”
“Order cannot descend. No one in this world can stop that one anymore!”
She spread her arms wide, her excitement visible.
“Someone will stop the God of Chaos,” Morai suddenly said.
Moen’s expression stiffened. She had just finished speaking, only for Morai to immediately slap her in the face with a contradiction. It was embarrassing.
“Morai, I taught you never to speak a true god’s divine name... Forget it, why am I even telling you this?” Moen’s lip twitched, then she continued, “You say someone will stop the God of Chaos? Who? The God of Order? Or one of the other Original Gods who cannot descend?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. The descent of the abyss is a foregone conclusion. You can no longer—”
“It’s Grinya! It’s the god possessing her. He can stop the chaos,” Morai said with conviction.
Moen paused, her face turning visibly dark.
“Morai, for the sake of our final bit of history together, I’ll ask you one last time. Are you really going to betray me?”
Her saint-rank Life Crown title began to glow, and an indescribable divine pressure weighed down on Morai, making it hard for her to breathe.
Even for a bright-rank mage, the gap between her and a saint-rank was still massive.
“Moen, actually, I still remember the abilities you taught me,” Morai said with difficulty.
“You were the one who taught me how to poison my father’s food. I’ve been practicing that skill well all along. No one could tell.”
Moen was momentarily stunned. “What do you mean?”
“I’ll acknowledge you as my father for a moment, since you could be considered the father who created me. However...” A cold sneer appeared on Morai’s face. “Only for this one second.”
As soon as she spoke, Moen’s expression changed drastically. Her face turned deathly pale. She clutched her throat in disbelief, her body swaying as she struggled to stand.
“You... you!” She stared at Morai, unable to believe it, repeating the word “you” several times. Then, her throat felt a surge of sweetness, and she spat out a large mouthful of thick black blood.
“When... when did you poison me!?” Moen asked.
“Every day, every moment, every second I spent by your side,” Morai answered.
“I hate you!”
As she spoke those last words, Morai gritted her teeth, forcing each word out from between them.
Moen looked dazed, but her expression soon turned into a vicious, poisonous hatred.
“Even if I die, I’ll drag you to hell with me!”
Accompanied by the light of a white Life Star, Moen threw a black light ball filled with dense energy toward Morai.
Morai’s heart skipped a beat. The next second, she closed her eyes as if accepting her fate.
“I alone will bear all the pain!”
Just as the light ball was about to hit Morai, a righteous shout broke the silence. Buze suddenly leaped out and blocked the way in front of Morai.
Under Morai’s incredulous gaze, Buze fearlessly collided with the terrifying light ball. His portly body was blown to ashes in a massive explosion.
Morai’s pupils contracted, and tears streamed down her face.
She drew her sword. Amidst the brilliant light of her Life Star, the tip of her blade pierced through Moen’s abdomen, shredding her internal organs.
Black blood flowed from the corners of Moen’s tightly shut mouth. She stared fixedly at Morai, and neither of them was willing to back down as they locked eyes.
After a long standoff, Moen suddenly opened her mouth, and a large pool of black blood flowed out.
She said, “Did you really think... I never loved you?”
The moment those words were spoken, Morai’s entire body shuddered. Her hand, which had been tightly gripping the sword hilt, slowly loosened.
After saying her last words, Moen fell completely silent, her body collapsing powerlessly.
Morai stood frozen in place, looking like a lifeless puppet, her soul seemingly gone.
“A saint-rank, even when poisoned, how could she be killed by a single strike from a bright-rank?” A light voice drifted in with the wind. Morai was stunned for a moment, then she quickly turned around.
However, the moment she turned, a large hand suddenly grabbed her head and lifted her off the ground.
Duoze said with a hint of pity, “Actually, Moen’s last ball was aimed at me, but it seems neither of you noticed me. Poor Moen—even in her final moments, she was protecting you.”
The moment Duoze finished speaking, Morai, who had been struggling frantically, suddenly went still.
“Alright, traitor, it’s time for you to die,” Duoze said.
Then, just as his hand exerted pressure, about to crush Morai’s skull, that righteous shout rang out again:
“Blazing Fire Tornado!”
Facing the sudden vortex of fire, Duoze’s expression changed. He reflexively released Morai and jumped back, landing steadily on the ground.
He opened his mouth in surprise, looking at Buze, who was holding his sword in a starting stance:
“My god, Moen wasn’t lying. This guy really can resurrect!”
