“A revolt?”
Sea Element Monarch Ousheng's first reaction was that the messenger element must be high on something.
Ever since elements were integrated into the magic system and a unique elemental summoning system was established, elements were frequently summoned by mages across the Myriad Worlds. Even an Eternal Rank Sea Element Monarch like itself was no exception.
Summoning usually followed the rules of the contract: the mage provided mana, the element provided martial force, and after the battle, they each went their separate ways, owing nothing to the other.
But mages were a studious and crafty lot. At some point, a mage discovered that these summoned elements actually possessed a certain degree of intelligence, and the higher the tier of the summoning spell, the more intelligent the element.
That mage then compiled this discovery into a paper and published it in a journal. Soon, many mages began summoning elements specifically to study them.
Gradually, mages discovered that by giving elements extra 'tips,' they could make the elements remember their souls, thereby anchoring them as specific targets for future summonings.
From then on, after completing a summoning, every element would return to the Elemental Spirit Realm with extra items in addition to the mandatory mana payment.
Among these items were various alchemy potions brewed by mages.
Due to their different physical structures, the same potion often produced vastly different effects on humans compared to elements.
Regarding the effects on elements, Sea Element Monarch Ousheng liked to refer to them collectively as being 'high.'
After all, based on their behavior, they became delirious and constantly spoke nonsense.
With a thought, Ousheng released a stream of seawater, drenching the water element messenger in front of it. The messenger was washed inside and out, nearly transforming from a Water Element into a Sea Element on the spot.
“The Element Overlord sits in power within the Elemental Spirit Realm. How could the Lightning and Fire Elements possibly revolt? You’ve clearly had too much magic potion; it’s rotted your brain. Is your head clear now? Stay away from mages' potions next time. That stuff is too potent for you to handle.”
The doused water element messenger felt dizzy and resentful, but it gritted its teeth and forced the information out.
“Monarch Ousheng, I really am not high. Since you last went to see the Overlord, His Excellency hasn't shown his face for a long time. Not long ago, a violent surge of energy erupted from the Overlord's Palace at the core of the Spirit Realm. At first, the Guardians thought the Overlord was cultivating and had made a breakthrough. But later... later...”
At this point, the Water Element seemed extremely terrified, its words becoming incoherent.
“Later what? Don't stop at the most critical part. Don't learn those bad habits from the mages.”
“Later, the Guardians discovered that they could no longer sense the Overlord's aura!”
“What!”
Ousheng immediately felt a sense of dread. Element Guardians were a special existence in the Elemental Spirit Realm, holding a status equivalent to Titled High Priests in Heaven or Demon Kings in Hell.
The Guardians' duty was to protect the Element Overlord. They never left the Elemental Spirit Realm, constantly maintaining elemental reactions among themselves to keep the Overlord's Palace within a special domain.
At the same time, the Guardians shared a special connection with the Element Overlord, allowing them to sense his status so they could sacrifice their lives for him at any moment.
If the Guardians could no longer sense the Element Overlord's aura, then things were truly disastrous.
“Monarch Ousheng, after the Guardians realized they couldn't sense the Overlord, they were overcome with fear and immediately ordered the surrounding elements to search for him. However, the nearby Lightning and Fire Element Monarchs proposed a theory. They said that since you were the last element to see the Overlord, his disappearance must be related to you.”
“Bullshit! Those idiots only think about burning things all day! I went to see the Overlord to report critical intelligence!”
“But... but the Guardians believed them for now. They have already begun mobilizing the elemental army, preparing to march south to suppress us!”
“What!”
At that moment, Ousheng fully realized the gravity of the situation.
It had sought the Element Overlord to report the vital news of the alliance between Heaven and the undead, but now that meeting had become its own death warrant.
With the Element Overlord gone, there was no telling what those Lightning and Fire Elements would do to it.
No, it couldn't just wait for death; it had to find allies immediately.
Ousheng dissolved its physical form, instantly scattering into a massive torrent of water that flowed toward the southeast—the territory of the Earth and Wood Elements.
The relationship between Lightning and Fire Elements and Water and Sea Elements had always been poor. Previously, the Element Overlord had suppressed them, preventing any major conflicts. Now that the Overlord was gone, Ousheng didn't dare gamble on whether those simple-minded, naturally volatile elements would show mercy.
Meanwhile, outside the Elemental Spirit Realm, the situation in the Blank Zone was also grim.
When that streak of blood-red appeared, a massive amount of pure white fluid surged from all directions, attempting to infect the red and dye it white once more.
However, the appearance of the pure white fluid only slightly slowed the expansion of the blood-red color; it failed to extinguish it.
As the blood-red color gradually expanded outward, more and more pure white fluid concentrated at the site.
When the pure white fluid accumulated to a certain point, it piled up into a small hill, firmly suppressing the blood-red color beneath it.
Suddenly, a bloody hand reached out from within the pure white hill. In the next instant, the hill composed of pure white fluid exploded violently.
The blood-red color expanded outward rapidly, moving a hundred times faster than before.
At the center of the blood-red expanse stood the owner of that bloody hand: the Mother of Hell.
The Mother of Hell looked up slightly at the vast, white world, a faint smirk appearing on her lips.
“What a boring world. Nothing at all—no sound, no smell, no touch. Staying in a world like this for a year would drive anyone mad, wouldn't it? Don't you agree, Blank? Oh, I forgot, you've become completely mindless, left with only basic instincts. At least I have a conscience; look at the others, none of them care about you.”
As she spoke, the Mother of Hell raised her right hand, pointing her index finger upward. A drop of blood flowed from her fingertip, which she flicked toward the sky.
The moment the blood touched the white expanse above, it instantly stained it blood-red, continuing to expand.
“Relax. Soon, very soon, you won't have to suffer any longer. And of course, neither will I. I won't have to be tormented by endless madness anymore.”
...
Inside the Necrotic Dao Court, Chen Xu, having obtained his answer, sat cross-legged in his chair, the furrow in his brow refusing to smooth out.
The Lord of Heaven had once said that his Spring of Divine Vision was modeled after the technology of Sage Creations from the Truth Library.
But now, according to the Fate Typewriter's testimony, technology involving Sage Creations was top secret. Not to mention getting a look at it, even catching a whiff of it was enough to get one's head cut off.
One of them was definitely lying.
The Fate Typewriter's realm was low, and it couldn't resist Chen Xu's soul perception. Based on its soul fluctuations, it hadn't lied.
Therefore, there was only one truth: the Lord of Heaven must have a deep connection with that Great Sage.
As for whether the Lord of Heaven had imprisoned the Great Sage or if the Great Sage had replaced the Lord of Heaven, that remained unknown.
But regardless of which it was, the combined trouble of these two figures forced Chen Xu to be doubly cautious.
“No, the arrangements I made in the Land of the Undead earlier were still too simple. I need to increase the stakes!”
Acting on his thoughts, Chen Xu immediately went to the Land of the Undead. He intended to add the Sun and Moon to the existing Heavenly Spirits and Earthly Fiends, creating an array within an array.
Just as Chen Xu was preparing to condense the Towers of Starlight corresponding to the Sun and Moon, Miracle, the spirit of the Undead Network, sent him a message.
“Beep beep!”
“Master, I have monitored something that might interest you.”
“Oh? What is it?”
“Not long ago, several posts appeared on the forum regarding elemental summoning magic. The content stated that elemental summoning magic has failed and that elements are refusing to respond. I was curious, so I secretly boosted these posts with fake engagement, pushing them onto the trending list and exposing them to the vision of all Transcendents. Sure enough, after a large number of Transcendents saw them, they all tried it themselves and found that elemental summoning magic has indeed failed. As of now, 42,876,531 Transcendents have replied to confirm this phenomenon.”
“Elemental summoning has failed? Could something have gone wrong in the Elemental Spirit Realm? Miracle, this information is very important. You did well. Continue to monitor this, and if there are any changes, report to me immediately.”
“Yes, Master.”
After praising Miracle, Chen Xu opened a spatial gate and stepped into the Cosmic Sea.
Sensing the surrounding star systems for a moment, he began moving in a specific direction.
His destination: the Elemental Spirit Realm.
