Chapter 222 · Volume 1

Moon Bronze Mirror, Laurel Branch, and Aberration Egg

Chen Xu withdrew his gaze from the moon in the sky and turned to look at the two Behemoths lying flat on the ground.
"Roar?"
Under Chen Xu's gaze, the two restless creatures felt a faint sense of pressure.
In the next moment, Chen Xu released the power of the creation authority, which descended upon the Behemoths.
Then, Chen Xu shifted his gaze again, and another surge of authority power fell into the Giant Valley.
Chen Xu established a link between the three: the moon, the Giant Valley, and the Behemoths.
He pushed the power of the authority to its limit, but the coverage speed of creation was still too slow.
Covering the moon alone would have taken quite some time, and now that the special region of the Giant Valley had been added, the process slowed down even further.
With a wave of his hand, the Undead Throne manifested behind him.
As he leaned back, the skeletal arms on the throne automatically extended to catch his body, gently lowering him into the seat.
Instantly, Chen Xu's soul merged with the throne. The massive world power from the Land of the Undead poured continuously into his body through the Undead Throne.
Under Chen Xu's control, this immense world power was channeled into the creation authority.
Bolstered by this energy, the creation authority erupted with astonishing speed.
In the sky, the progress of the moon's creation became visible to the naked eye. The power of creation continuously spread upward from the base.
In the Giant Valley, progress was equally rapid; the power of creation started from the center of the valley and quickly radiated outward.
As for the two Behemoths, the power of creation saturated them almost instantly. The overbearing power of the authority brought them immense pain.
However, the Behemoths lived up to their reputation as legendary war beasts. The intense agony did not break their will; instead, it ignited their fighting spirit.
The two Behemoths roared frantically, their cries filled with unyielding resolve. Their agitated bodies erupted with formidable strength.
They actually broke free from Patchwerk's hooks and began attacking their surroundings.
Their massive claws left deep gouges in the ground, sending dust flying into the air.
However, the two Behemoths were not allowed to rampage for long before Chen Xu's cold gaze fell upon them once more.
The dust kicked up by the Behemoths had obstructed Chen Xu's view.
Although as an eternal-tier existence, Chen Xu had long been able to use mental perception to replace his ordinary senses, meaning this bit of dust couldn't truly affect him.
But the Behemoths' noise was interfering with his thoughts.
Since sitting upon the throne, Chen Xu's mindset had undergone a slight change; he now preferred silence.
Consequently, the two Behemoths making a racket nearby earned his deathly glare.
Suppressed by that cold gaze, the two Behemoths settled down again, only able to tremble continuously to distract themselves from the pain brought by the power of creation.
A spatial gate opened nearby, and Xuan Chu stepped out with Big Boss.
"My Lord, I have brought the items."
Big Boss took out two storage items, intending to hand them to Chen Xu.
But as he looked up and met Chen Xu's indifferent and oppressive gaze, a chill rose from the depths of his heart.
Good heavens, he had only been gone a short while to fetch some things from the City of Miracles. How had Lord Chen Xu changed so much?
"You brought the items?"
Hearing Chen Xu's call, Big Boss quickly hurried over.
As a merchant who traveled the myriad worlds, Big Boss had seen many great things. He quickly composed himself, suppressing the fear in his heart.
"My Lord, this white one contains items related to the moon.
This gray one contains items related to the Yin-attribute."
Chen Xu used his mental strength to take the two storage devices and brought out all the items inside.
A pile of objects lay scattered on the ground. Chen Xu scanned them briefly, picking out three, while the rest were returned to the storage devices.
"My Lord," Big Boss stepped forward in a timely manner to provide an explanation.
Big Boss raised his hand toward a bronze mirror in the air. Two white branches were carved onto it; above them was a full moon, and below was a crescent moon.
"This circular bronze mirror is a legendary-tier magic artifact. It can absorb mana and fire lunar essence to freeze an enemy's soul.
It can also nurture a precious medicine called Moon-Purifying Dew. This medicine can be consumed directly to nourish the soul and cleanse impurities, or it can be used as an ingredient to refine pills or potions."
Big Boss then pointed to another treasure.
"This branch—according to the crazed old Daoist from whom I got it—was taken from an eternal-tier laurel tree next to the Moon Palace. Although I have traveled the myriad worlds for many years and heard of only a few eternal-tier moons, I have never heard of an eternal-tier laurel.
However, the mythic aura emanating from the branch is very dense. The price the old Daoist asked for wasn't unreasonable, so I treated it as a mythic-tier treasure and acquired it."
As he spoke, Big Boss recalled the scene of the purchase. The crazed old Daoist in tattered clothes had reeked of alcohol and spoke nonsense.
It was only because Big Boss had traveled far and wide and knew that the Eastern transcendent systems often produced such eccentric, worldly masters that the deal was struck.
"An eternal-tier laurel? It's not impossible."
Chen Xu beckoned, taking the branch into his hand and sensing the origin within it.
In his perception, the origin of this laurel branch was not as deep as Zhenyuan's, but it wasn't far off either. It really might be from an eternal-tier laurel.
It was just that when the branch was harvested, the laurel tree had not yet reached maturity—similar to Zhenyuan, who was currently only at the mythic-tier. This resulted in the branch having an eternal-tier origin while only emitting a mythic aura.
Hearing Chen Xu's words, Big Boss was slightly taken aback, followed by a surge of excitement.
"Haha, so this branch really was taken from an eternal-tier existence? It seems I, Big Boss, made a huge profit on that trade."
After his laughter subsided, Big Boss proceeded to introduce the final item to Chen Xu.
"My Lord, this last treasure is an aberration egg. It is known as the Mystic Yin Vile Curse Earthbound Spider."
"An aberration? Are you sure?"
"Yes, My Lord. I specifically had it appraised. Although aberrations are rare, the expert was a world-renowned appraisal master. As the saying goes, 'When the hymn of praise rings, wealth flows from all sides.'
This aberration egg once received a hymn of praise from that appraisal master."
Aberrations were a special product of the transcendent worlds.
According to lore circulating through the myriad worlds, when a world possessed transcendent power for a certain period—say, a hundred thousand or a million years—its transcendent rules would undergo mutations.
These mutated rules would then inhabit transcendent creatures, completely altering their race.
Such transcendent creatures inhabited by mutated rules were known as aberrations.
Because rule mutation was a low-probability occurrence, aberrations were extremely rare. Furthermore, most aberrations were unstable; they either died from their chaotic rules or were killed in conflict.
Only a few aberrations possessed the ability to reproduce and lay eggs like normal creatures.
Although the aura emanating from the Mystic Yin Vile Curse Earthbound Spider egg before Chen Xu was only epic-tier, its true value was far greater than that of a mythic-tier pet egg.
The spider egg was only about the size of a grain of rice. Chen Xu placed it on the pad of his index finger, carefully extending his mental strength to perceive the rules within.
"What a fascinating little thing. So this rhythmic rule pattern is what defines an aberration."
"My Lord, have you seen an aberration before?"
Big Boss was somewhat familiar with Chen Xu's rise to power and knew that this terrifyingly strong Lord of the Undead had come from a small world where transcendent power had only recently emerged.
By any measure, his growth period might not even be as long as one of Big Boss's full merchant routes.
Hearing that Chen Xu had seen an aberration before was quite surprising to Big Boss.
"Yes. Back when I was doing research, I accidentally created a mutated creature. At the time, I felt that its internal origin was somewhat chaotic. I didn't realize it was actually an aberration."
What Chen Xu was referring to was the creature produced by mutation in the Mad Alchemy Lab: the Source of the Plague.
That lump of rotten meat was still lying in the Undead Divine Court. Its volume had grown even larger; from a distance, it looked like a small mountain.
That lump of meat also frequently sprayed out multicolored gases. Any undead creature touched by those eerie colors would lose consciousness in an instant and then be devoured by the Source of the Plague.
Fortunately, Chen Xu had thrown it into the Ancient Battlefield, where only a few skeleton soldiers wandered by occasionally.
Losing a few skeleton soldiers was no loss to Chen Xu, so he hadn't bothered with it.
However, having discovered by chance today that the Source of the Plague was a legendary aberration, he would have to give it more attention.
"Sigh, another item for the to-do list."
Chen Xu complained casually as the power of creation enveloped the bronze mirror, the laurel branch, and the spider egg on his finger.
The three items turned into streaks of light and flew toward the moon. Just as Chen Xu intended to finish the modification in one go by controlling the creation authority, Big Boss's voice came again.
"My Lord, I only remembered after returning this time. Besides these moon-related treasures, some worlds even sell the moon itself. I wonder if you would be interested?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Xu instantly halted the integration process of the creation authority and turned his head to look at Big Boss.
"The moon itself? People actually sell moons?"
