Chapter 34 · Volume 1

Setting Off, the “Shrek Seven Monsters”?

Before long, under Saintess Lilith's personal guidance, all the magical materials were fully gathered.
After what had transpired earlier, Lilith had come to look at the God-Chosen Ones in a whole new light.
Although these God-Chosen Ones still acted wild and seemed unreliable, there were many capable individuals among them, and their efficiency was surprisingly high.
Watching these energetic and vibrant God-Chosen Ones, a gentle smile appeared on Lilith's face.
When constructing the teleportation magic array in the temple square, a female God-Chosen One named “Bing Lin” sincerely asked her for guidance regarding its construction.
This surprised Lilith quite a bit.
After all, most God-Chosen Ones focused on things like “grinding mobs,” “getting loot drops,” or “hidden quests.” She had been thoroughly exasperated by them over the past few days, so rarely did anyone show genuine interest in the magic array itself.
But Bing Lin was different.
Her questions were detailed and deep, even touching upon several rune principles that Lilith assumed would take a long explanation for someone to understand—yet with just a slight hint, Bing Lin showed an expression of sudden realization.
Such comprehension...
Lilith nodded secretly in her heart, admiring this God-Chosen One greatly, and shared her knowledge of magic arrays without holding anything back.
At the same time, she quietly kept this exceptionally outstanding female God-Chosen One in mind.
Because of this, Bing Lin had now effectively become the only player who understood how to construct teleportation magic arrays and establish teleportation anchors.
In the end, by unanimous vote among the players, the advance party was officially formed.
The party consisted of seven people, with a composition and player levels that represented the top tier of the server:
Nan Cheng possessed three skills: Wind Slash, Strength Amplification, and Appraisal. He could deal ranged damage, engage in melee control, and assess the strength of enemies, serving as the overall commander of the team.
Hao Bai was one of the core players who triggered the main quest, as well as the leader of Hao Bai's party. Although he lacked powerful ranged skills, he possessed three practical abilities: Reconnaissance, Concealment, and Armor Break. He had been key in spotting and subduing the kobold earlier.
Little Star was a member of Hao Bai's party and another core player who triggered the main quest. With three ranged skills, he was a pure ranged player and the team's absolute damage turret.
Momozi was also a member of Hao Bai's party and a core player who triggered the main quest. Possessing Berserk, Rock Solid, and Starlight Slash, he was a thorough iron-blooded tank, specializing in soaking damage and melee crowd control—a walking human fortress.
Bing Lin was a female player with a sharp and capable appearance, as well as one of the core players involved in building the player town, responsible for establishing the teleportation anchor.
Energetic Foxfox mastered Disguise, making her the key to the success of this mission. She had also drawn a healing skill, making her half a healer for the team.
As for Bruce, his skills were similar to Momozi's, but he was even better at drawing aggro with forced taunting—a born taunt tank.
With the seven-person party packed and ready to go, the players remaining in the square waved and cheered enthusiastically.
“Holy crap, with this lineup, are they the Shrek Seven Monsters or something?”
A player shouted out in banter amid the cheers.
In an unnoticed corner, West quietly followed behind the party, concealing his presence completely without leaving a trace.
His eyes remained fixed on the noisy figures ahead, marveling secretly in his heart:
These God-Chosen Ones... really are full of energy.
Though they were loud, chaotic, and occasionally used words he couldn't understand at all, their unreserved enthusiasm and trust truly earned his goodwill.
Oblivious to this, the seven-person party ahead marched noisily toward the kobold stronghold, filling the woods with laughter and chatter.
“Bruce, stop playing with the slime! What are you gonna do if we run out of secretion later!” Nan Cheng turned back to glare at Bruce, who was squishing the pink slime.
Bruce sounded entirely justified: “What's there to fear! This pink one can yield a huge tube! I've been raising it for so long, isn't it fair to collect a little interest?”
The pink slime let out an aggrieved “Mu-mu” in his hands.
“Raising it for... long?” Nan Cheng was rendered speechless. “How come I didn't know about this... And Bruce, are you sure it isn't swearing at you?”
“Impossible,” Bruce said with absolute confidence. “It's thanking me for giving it a massage.”
Nan Cheng: “...”
“Energetic Foxfox, when you disguise me as a kobold later, make sure you do a good job. Don't make me look weird—I don't want to get ganked!” Momozi leaned over to Energetic Foxfox, his tone sounding like a reminder. Looking at the energetic young girl, he felt a bit uneasy inside.
Energetic Foxfox rolled her eyes with disgust. “Shut up, Momozi! I'm a professional!”
“Can you turn me into a female kobold then?”
“...What on earth is going on in your head?”
“Why would you even think of that, Momozi?” Bing Lin, who had been listening nearby, slapped her forehead.
Walking alongside them, Little Star couldn't help snickering out loud. “Momozi, are you afraid the kobold you turn into will be too handsome and make the other kobolds jealous?”
Momozi nodded solemnly. “That's entirely possible. After all, look at my underlying natural charm.”
Everyone fell silent together for a second.
Then Little Star jabbed, “Momozi, do you remember that you've been killed by kobolds twice already?”
Momozi's face darkened. “That was an accident!”
“The first time was from recklessly charging in to feed.”
“...”
“The second time was getting ambushed by a kobold.”
“...”
“The third time—” Little Star paused, then shrugged. “Oh right, you've only died twice.”
Momozi took a deep breath, quietly walked behind Little Star, and patted his shoulder.
Reflexively, Little Star hid behind Hao Bai. “Hao Bai-ge! Save me!”
Expressionless, Hao Bai took a step to the right, clearing the way.
Little Star: “...”
Momozi chuckled softly, his tone terrifically gentle. “Little Star, what did you just say? I didn't catch that clearly.”
“I said... I said you were brave and fearless, Momozi! Falling twice was all to scout the path for us—a true role model!” Little Star's survival instinct peaked at this moment.
“Too late.”
“Don't hit my face!”
“Alright, noted.”
“Hahaha—” Energetic Foxfox slapped her thigh with laughter. “Little Star, that's what you get for running your mouth!”
Nan Cheng chuckled as well. “Alright, stop fooling around. It's going to be bad if you actually attract kobolds over.”
Just as he spoke, a rustling sound came from the distance.
Everyone instantly silenced themselves, staring in unison in the direction of the noise.
A few seconds later, a wild rabbit hopped out from the bushes, gave the group of humans a bewildered look, and hopped away.
“...That's it?” Bruce curled his lip in disappointment. “I thought it was a kobold.”
“What are you disappointed about?” Nan Cheng said, speechlessly. “You really want to get ganked by kobolds right now?”
“Don't we have Momozi to tank them?”
Momozi: “??? Why does it have to be me?”
“Because you're the tank.”
“Aren't you a tank too? Besides, do tanks just deserve to die?!”
“Not really,” Bruce pondered seriously. “It's just that you have more experience dying.”
Little Star almost burst out laughing.
Good job, Bruce!
He silently gave Bruce a thumb-up in his mind.
Momozi took a deep breath and turned to Nan Cheng. “Cheng-ge, can I hit him?”
Nan Cheng waved his hand. “Wait until after the quest is finished. Keep him around for now.”
“Fine, putting it in my little notebook.”
The group continued forward, laughing and joking along the way.
