On the screen, a post titled 《Shocking! High School Entrance Tournament Champion Appears on Campus with Newly Discovered Dragon-type Pet!》 had already been pushed to the top, with hundreds of replies below it.
The topmost photo was exactly the scene of Liu Yi being photographed at the school gate that morning, with Chiying’s dragon horns glinting in the sunlight.
“This is just the campus forum.” Yan Xinliu swiped to the next page. “The Beast Tamer Association's official website released a new pet announcement this morning. Your Moling Dragon has officially been added to the Saint Card East Asia Continent Beast Encyclopedia.”
Liu Yi glanced at it, and sure enough, the announcement featured a 3D image and basic information about Chiying, with her name listed in the discoverer section.
“That was fast....”
“Of course it’s fast.” Yan Xinliu put away her phone. “A newly discovered Dragon-type pet, especially one contracted by a Beast Tamer with seemingly limitless future potential like you, the Beast Tamer Association couldn't wait to announce it.”
They reached the classroom office door, and Yan Xinliu stopped. “We’re here. Oh, and by the way,” she hesitated, “could I add you as a friend? I’d like to ask you about pet training.”
Liu Yi nodded, and they exchanged contact information.
After knocking, Wei Xiuyu’s voice came from inside: “Come in.”
There were three desks in the office, and Wei Xiuyu was sitting by the window.
Seeing Liu Yi enter, she put down the documents in her hand. “Have a seat.”
Liu Yi sat down opposite her. Ziyue obediently crouched by her feet, while Chiying tilted its head, its gaze fixed on the spot beside Wei Xiuyu.
Wei Xiuyu noticed Chiying’s action, raised an eyebrow, and then said to Liu Yi, “I called you here mainly to ask if you’re interested in participating in the National High School League.”
Liu Yi: “Of course.”
Wei Xiuyu: “If you want to join the School Team, the basic requirement for first-year students is to clear the tenth floor of the Tower of Trials, with the deadline being before the end of this week.”
Liu Yi: “Understood. I’ll start challenging the Tower of Trials this afternoon.”
Wei Xiuyu: “There are five spots for each grade to participate in the competition. This means that, in addition to clearing the tenth floor, you must also be among the top five first-year students on the Tower of Trials leaderboard to be selected for the School Team.”
Liu Yi: “Understood.”
Wei Xiuyu twirled her pen, and silence spread between the teacher and student. It seemed she had nothing more to say.
After glancing at Ziyue and Chiying a few more times, Wei Xiuyu said, “You may go.”
Liu Yi pushed open the office door and found Yan Xinliu still standing in the hallway, her fingers rapidly sliding across her phone screen.
“You’re still here?” Liu Yi was a little surprised.
Yan Xinliu put away her phone and pushed up her glasses. “The next class is Various Pet Morphological Features, in Simulation Classroom 2. You took a week off and haven’t been there yet, so I was worried you might not find it.”
Liu Yi smiled. “Thanks.”
The two walked along the hallway towards the stairs. Yan Xinliu’s Magnetic Cat Pipi followed at her feet, occasionally glancing at Ziyue.
“The simulation classroom is on the west side of the main teaching building,” Yan Xinliu said as they walked. “Teacher Zhao is in charge of this class. She likes to ask random questions, but she’s quite lenient with new students.”
Liu Yi noticed that Yan Xinliu kept her eyes straight ahead when she spoke, her tone as steady as if reciting a textbook.
“You’re very familiar with the school,” Liu Yi said.
Yan Xinliu’s lips curved slightly upward. “Before school started, I studied Tianqi’s campus map and teacher profiles. Learning with a plan is more efficient.”
Turning the corner, the door to Simulation Classroom 2 was open, and many students were already seated inside.
In the center of the classroom was a huge holographic projection platform, with seats arranged in tiers around it.
“Let’s sit there.” Yan Xinliu pointed to a middle seat on the right. “The view is best from there.”
Just as they sat down, the class bell rang.
A white-haired teacher walked into the classroom, followed by a Phantom Moon Fox.
“Hello, students, I am Zhao Tinglian.” Her voice was loud and strong. “Today, we will be studying the morphological features and evolution chains of Psychic-type pets.”
Teacher Zhao pressed a button on the podium, and the holographic projection platform immediately displayed a 3D image of a Telekinetic Monkey, with detailed data listed beside it.
“Psychic-type pets excel in mental power, and most have elegant forms...” Teacher Zhao began her explanation, with the Phantom Moon Fox quietly crouching at her feet.
Liu Yi diligently took notes. Although this basic knowledge was simple, there were so many pets that there would always be some she didn't recognize. Systematic learning would help her better understand the characteristics of different pets, and the more she knew about an opponent's pet during a battle, the higher her chances of winning.
Ziyue lay under the desk, occasionally looking up at the projection. Chiying, after class began, had moved from Liu Yi’s neck to Ziyue’s body to sleep, seemingly uninterested in such a purely theoretical class.
“Next, let’s look at some common Psychic-type pet evolution forms.” Teacher Zhao switched the projection. “Can any student tell me what the evolution forms of the Phantom Moon Fox are?”
The classroom was silent for a few seconds.
“Yan Xinliu.” Teacher Zhao called her name.
“The Phantom Moon Fox has two evolution forms,” Yan Xinliu stood up, her voice clear. “One is the normal evolution, the Illusion Light Fox, and the other is the Phantom Charm Fox, which evolves under special conditions.”
“Correct.” Teacher Zhao nodded in satisfaction. “Please sit down.”
The class continued, with Teacher Zhao showcasing the morphological features and skill characteristics of various Psychic-type pets.
“For the last ten minutes, we’ll have a short pop quiz.” Teacher Zhao’s words elicited a soft groan. “Don’t worry, the scores won’t be announced; it’s just to help you reinforce what you’ve learned.”
The questions were displayed via projection, and students answered using electronic responders.
When everyone had finished answering, the dismissal bell rang, and Liu Yi put away her notes.
Yan Xinliu: “Next class is at Training Ground 1, it’s Pet Skill Trait Recognition.”
Liu Yi nodded. Ziyue emerged from under the desk, shaking her fur, and Chiying also woke from its sleep.
“Is your Moling Dragon usually this... quiet?” Yan Xinliu asked, looking at Chiying with a curious glint in her eyes.
Liu Yi gently stroked Chiying’s dragon horns. “Hmm, its temperament is very good.”
Yan Xinliu nodded thoughtfully.
“Let’s go, Training Ground 1 is a bit far.” Yan Xinliu picked up Pipi. “We have to cross the Central Plaza.”
Leaving the main teaching building, the September sun was still scorching.
Under the Tower of Trials next to the Central Plaza, many students gathered in front of the two large screens outside its base, watching the real-time leaderboard.
“Are you going to challenge the Tower of Trials?” Yan Xinliu keenly noticed Liu Yi’s focus.
“Yes, I’ll be going this afternoon.” Liu Yi withdrew her gaze. “Teacher Wei said that to join the School Team, the most basic requirement is to clear the tenth floor.”
“Among first-year students, the current highest record is the ninth floor.” Yan Xinliu’s glasses reflected the sunlight. “But I believe it will be broken soon.”
“We’re here.” Yan Xinliu stopped. “Training Ground 1.”
Inside the training ground, some students had already lined up, each with their pet beside them.
A teacher stood on the podium, with a massive Steel-Armored Rhinoceros beside her.
“That’s Teacher Pang,” Yan Xinliu whispered. “She specializes in training defensive-type pets.”
