Liu Yi looked around the classroom, searching for an empty seat.
The seats on the opening ceremony day were temporary; everyone seemed to have redistributed their seats on the first day of classes.
Her gaze fell on the last empty seat in the middle row, where her name was posted.
Liu Yi walked towards her designated spot, feeling the eyes of the entire class follow her.
Ziyue followed quietly behind Liu Yi as much as possible; it had already experienced the might of the 'petting army' at the opening ceremony.
Chiying silently observed its surroundings.
Her seatmate was a girl with white-framed glasses, engrossed in a thick book. Beside her was a fluffy Magnetic Cat, happily licking a bottle of nutrient solution.
As Liu Yi sat down, the girl turned her head, pushing up her glasses. “Hello, I’m Yan Xinliu,” she said, pointing to the Magnetic Cat beside her. “This is Pipi.”
“Liu Yi.” Liu Yi nodded slightly, then pointed to Ziyue and Chiying. “Ziyue, Chiying.”
“I know you,” Yan Xinliu whispered. “After seeing the news, pretty much the whole class is talking about you taking a week off to go to the Myriad Realm Secret Realm.”
She thought for a moment, then pulled a piece of paper from her backpack and wrote something down with a pen. “Want to join the class group chat? Everyone’s already in it.”
“Group number?” Liu Yi took the slip of paper with a string of numbers. “Wouldn’t it be faster if you just opened your phone so I could scan a QR code?”
“Hmm, but class is about to start, so I won’t take it out,” Yan Xinliu nodded. “It was created on the first day of classes, and Teacher Wei is in it too. She sends out announcements and such.”
Liu Yi, however, directly pulled out her phone, entered the group number, and applied to join.
Almost immediately, the application was approved, and the group chat name displayed as 【Tianqi 99th Batch First Year Class A-1】.
“Knock, knock,” came two sounds. Wei Xiuyu stood at the classroom door, knocking twice. “Students, please return to your seats. Our first class today is Pet Energy Control, taught by Teacher Dong.”
After the students who had gathered together in the classroom returned to their seats, Wei Xiuyu looked at Liu Yi and said, “Liu Yi, come to my office after the first class.”
After speaking, she left, and then the class bell officially rang.
The classroom door opened again, and a male teacher walked in, a Swiftwind Falcon perched on his left shoulder.
Teacher Dong said, “Good morning, students. Today, we will learn how to help pets control their energy output more precisely.”
The Swiftwind Falcon flew from his shoulder, circled the classroom once, then landed on the stand on the podium.
“First, I’d like to understand each of your pets’ energy control levels,” Teacher Dong said, surveying the classroom. “Please have each student demonstrate one skill from their pet, and I will offer advice based on their performance.”
The demonstrations began from the left side of the classroom.
The first to come forward was a girl whose pet was a Fire-type Fiery Dog.
“Woof, woof!” the Fiery Dog barked, bouncing around and spewing a cluster of sparks.
Teacher Dong nodded. “The energy output is stable, but the control needs improvement. Try to make the flames form specific shapes.”
Next was a Water-type Big-Mouth Frog, spitting out perfect bubbles; a Grass-type Vine-Leaf Flower, skillfully manipulating vines to write its name in the air...
“Next, Yan Xinliu.”
Yan Xinliu stood up, pushing up her glasses. “Pipi, Quick Attack.”
The Magnetic Cat instantly transformed into a bolt of lightning, circled the open area of the classroom, and returned to its original spot, the entire process taking less than two seconds.
“Good speed,” Teacher Dong commented. “But there’s a slight energy leak when turning; pay attention to reining it in.”
Finally, it was Liu Yi’s turn.
When she stood up, the classroom noticeably quieted, and everyone held their breath in anticipation.
“Student Liu Yi,” Teacher Dong’s gaze moved between her and her two pets. “Please demonstrate.”
It seemed inconvenient to use attack skills in the classroom, so Liu Yi looked at Ziyue. “Frost Path.”
Ziyue leaped to the front of the platform. It raised a front paw, tapped lightly, and an ice-blue path immediately extended from its feet, forming a perfect circle in the open area.
Even more astonishing, the ice path wasn’t laid on the ground but suspended about half a meter in the air, shimmering with crystalline light.
“Wow!” a chorus of exclamations rose in the classroom.
Teacher Dong’s eyes widened slightly. “Laying it in the air... that’s a Frost Path at Expert level proficiency!”
He walked closer to observe. “The energy control is incredibly precise, with almost no waste. Very good, Student Liu Yi, your Silver Snow Fox performed exceptionally.”
The students below began to discuss in hushed tones.
“This... this can’t be real, can it? My Big-Mouth Frog’s Water Gun hasn’t even reached Proficient level yet.”
“How can Liu Yi’s pet skill proficiency improve so fast? I remember when Ziyue was an Ice Fox, its B-rank skill was Ice Spike. That means this Frost Path was learned after evolution, and its proficiency reached Expert level so quickly?!”
“Wow, let’s start worshiping the study god! Come on, Fluffy, you bow to Ziyue too. Maybe your skill proficiency will increase faster later.”
Teacher Dong surveyed the classroom. “Students, this is the key point I want to emphasize today. Precise energy control is more important than blindly accumulating energy. Increasing skill proficiency doesn’t mean you can just blindly make your pets practice all the time.”
He motioned for Liu Yi to return to her seat, then continued his lecture. “Many students only focus on the power of a skill, but they neglect control. In reality, a low-level skill with high proficiency is often more practical than a high-level skill that a pet has just learned and hasn’t mastered yet.”
Liu Yi quietly returned to her seat. Ziyue walked under the desk and rested its head on Liu Yi’s lap. Chiying remained coiled around her neck, its crimson eyes slightly narrowed, seemingly a little interested in the class content.
“Next, I’ll teach you a few small tricks to improve energy control.” Teacher Dong took a metal stand from under the podium, with over a dozen small bells hanging from it. “The first exercise is—”
“Ding-a-ling—”
The dismissal bell suddenly rang, interrupting Teacher Dong, who smiled helplessly. “Alright, we’ll continue this in our next Pet Energy Control class.”
As Liu Yi stood up, several students immediately gathered around her.
“Liu Yi, can I pet your Silver Snow Fox?”
“It’s even prettier after evolving! Its two tails are so beautiful!”
“What’s the name of that Dragon-type pet? Is it really a newly discovered species?”
“Bingbing~”
Ziyue, under the desk, let out a deep sigh, indicating that being too popular was also a nuisance.
Liu Yi noticed Ziyue’s action, smiled, and said to the surrounding students, “Excuse me, I need to go to Teacher Wei’s office first.”
She skillfully navigated through the crowd and quickly exited the classroom.
In the hallway, Yan Xinliu caught up with her.
“You’ll get used to it,” Yan Xinliu said, pushing up her glasses. “Your performance in the High School Entrance Tournament, plus the newly discovered Dragon-type pet, probably has everyone outside our class talking about you too.”
Liu Yi: “Is it really that exaggerated?”
Yan Xinliu pulled out her phone and opened the campus forum. “See for yourself.”
