Liu Yi looked into those eyes, silent for two seconds.
Then she smiled.
“You want a name?”
“Yanyan!”
The Blaze Lion's tail suddenly perked up, and the entire lion stood up from her lap, its front paws resting on her shoulders.
“Yanyan!”
I do!
Liu Yi reached out, scooped it off her, and placed it back on her lap. The Blaze Lion refused to sit still, turning around and around on her lap.
“Let me think,” Liu Yi said.
The Blaze Lion stopped, looked up at her, its golden eyes full of anticipation.
“Jinyao,” Liu Yi said.
The Blaze Lion tilted its head, a hint of confusion flashing in its golden eyes.
“Yanyan?”
The Blaze Lion tilted its head and repeated the sound.
“Jin,” Liu Yi extended a finger and gently tapped the corner of the Blaze Lion’s eye. “Like Ziyue and Chiying, it’s based on the color of your eyes.”
She paused, then extended a second finger: “Yao. You are a Radiance Shift individual, and ‘Yao’ (耀) and ‘Yao’ (曜) are homophones. ‘Yao’ (曜) also means shining like the sun, just like—”
She reached out, gently lifted the Blaze Lion from her lap, and held it before her eyes.
Its golden fur shone with a soft luster in the morning light, and its golden eyes gazed at her intently, her face reflected in its pupils.
Warm, bright, like a tiny sun.
“Just like you.”
The room fell silent for a moment.
Ziyue peered over from the side, her purple eyes looking at the Blaze Lion held aloft by Liu Yi.
“Bingbing.”
Jinyao.
Chiying also flew over, its crimson eyes fixed on the little golden lion.
“Mo.”
Jinyao.
Jinyao’s golden eyes blinked when Ziyue and Chiying called its name, then they suddenly lit up.
“Yanyan!”
It has a name!
It bounced up from Liu Yi’s lap, landed back, then bounced up again, then landed back, continuously hopping on her lap.
Jinyao hopped for a while before finally stopping.
“Yanyan.”
It let out a soft cry.
Liu Yi understood.
She picked Jinyao up from her lap, held it in front of her, and gently touched Jinyao’s fluffy little head with her forehead.
“You’re welcome,” she whispered, “Jinyao.”
Jinyao’s eyes narrowed into two crescent moons.
Then it let out a tiny yawn.
Sleepy again.
That burst of excitement hadn’t even lasted half an hour.
Jinyao’s head drooped little by little, but each time it was about to fall, it would suddenly lift it, shake its head, and force its eyes open.
Liu Yi placed Jinyao on the bed and gently rubbed its head.
“Sleep,” she said.
Jinyao’s ears twitched, and a muffled purr rumbled in its throat, as if responding, or perhaps talking in its sleep.
Then its breathing completely steadied, and its entire body relaxed.
Ziyue and Chiying also got onto the bed, lying down beside Jinyao and using their bodies to block the edge of the bed, preventing it from rolling off when it turned over.
Liu Yi watched the three of them, a slight smile playing on her lips.
She turned and walked back to the table, sitting down in a chair.
The breakfast on the tray was already cold.
She didn’t mind, picking up a sandwich and taking a bite.
Halfway through her sandwich, she remembered something, took out her phone, opened the Beast Tamer Association’s official database, and typed “Radiance Shift” into the search bar.
The screen quickly displayed the search results.
【Radiance Shift】
【Definition: A mutated individual of the same species that exhibits significant differences in appearance from ordinary individuals.】
【Occurrence Probability: Extremely low, current statistical data shows approximately one in ten thousand to one in one hundred thousand, with the specific probability varying by species.】
【Appearance Characteristics: Fur color, feather color, scale color, etc., differ from common individuals of the same species. Some Radiance Shift individuals only show differences in color depth or pattern distribution, while others exhibit entirely different color schemes.】
【Strength Assessment: Normally, Radiance Shift only represents an appearance difference and does not indicate strength or weakness. The strength of Radiance Shift individuals still depends on postnatal cultivation, no different from ordinary individuals.】
【Note: Due to their unique appearance, Radiance Shift individuals are popular in fields such as performance shows. However, in actual combat battles, Radiance Shift individuals have no advantages or disadvantages.】
After reading, Liu Yi exited the page.
Just as she had explained to Ziyue and Chiying earlier, Radiance Shift only meant a difference in appearance; their strength still depended on postnatal cultivation.
But it didn’t matter.
Whether it was a Radiance Shift or not, she would nurture it well.
After breakfast, Liu Yi tidied the tray and placed it by the door. Then she returned to the room, sat cross-legged on the bed, and closed her eyes.
Meditation.
Her Beast Taming Space development progress was now at 29%, just one percent away from 30%. Although it was only a single percentage point between 29% and 30%, she had no idea when this one percent would break through.
She could only try to increase her meditation time, hoping to break through faster.
Time passed minute by minute.
When Liu Yi first opened her eyes, she glanced at the time: ten in the morning. She had meditated for about an hour and a half.
She stretched her somewhat stiff neck and looked towards the bed.
Jinyao was still asleep, having changed positions several times. First, it was lying on its back, then it turned onto its side, its tiny paws resting on Ziyue’s tail, and its head propped on the tip of Chiying’s tail.
Ziyue’s tail, used as a pillow, dared not move and remained stiff. Chiying, however, didn’t care; its tail being used as a pillow was fine, and it didn’t even change its posture.
Liu Yi smiled and closed her eyes again.
The second time she opened her eyes was at noon; she had meditated for another two hours.
She got off the sofa and walked to the window.
A faint whimper came from behind her.
She turned around and saw Jinyao tossing and turning on the bed.
It rolled off Ziyue’s tail, then onto the tip of Chiying’s tail, finally lying sprawled in the center of the bed before slowly opening its eyes.
Its golden eyes were still hazy, its pupils unfocused, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Ziyue immediately leaned over and gently nudged Jinyao’s head with her nose.
“Bingbing.”
Awake?
Jinyao blinked, slowly turned its head, and looked at Ziyue.
It stared for several seconds, seemingly trying to recall who this was, then its eyes lit up.
“Yanyan!”
Jinyao cried out and sprang up from the bed. Its gaze quickly swept around the room, then settled on Liu Yi by the window.
Then it began to run towards Liu Yi.
When it reached the edge of the bed, it stopped, looking down at the height from the bed frame to the floor.
It was a bit high.
It hesitated for a moment, then squatted by the edge of the bed, looking up at Liu Yi, its golden eyes full of anticipation.
“Yanyan.”
Carry me.
Liu Yi smiled, walked over, scooped Jinyao off the bed, and placed it on her shoulder.
Jinyao immediately hugged her neck with its two front paws, its tail wagging rapidly behind it. It buried its face in Liu Yi’s hair, letting out a contented purr.
Ziyue jumped off the bed, looking up at Jinyao perched on Liu Yi’s shoulder, a hint of envy in her purple eyes.
Liu Yi looked down at her: “What’s wrong?”
Ziyue shook her head, saying nothing.
Chiying flew from the bed to Liu Yi’s side, its crimson eyes glancing at Jinyao on Liu Yi’s shoulder before looking away.
