Chapter 173 · Volume 1

Turing City's Traitor, an Uninvited Guest

All the assessors gathered in front of the large screen, standing frozen like a circle of wooden stakes.
They had been bored for far too long, and watching Bai Feifei's senseless, rampaging slaughter was actually quite entertaining—almost like watching an action movie.
Meanwhile, the numbers on the leaderboard continued to tick upward.
“Does this woman... ever rest?” an assessor from another academy muttered, staring at the screen as if looking at some rare, exotic creature.
“Also, have you noticed something? How on earth does she know exactly where the aberrations are?”
“Did you see that? She barely takes any detours. The moment she finishes one off, she charges in a straight line toward the next location and immediately finds another one.”
“Could it be purely random? Maybe she's just running blindly and killing whatever crosses her path.”
“That doesn't make sense. If it were random, why aren't the students running into any?”
The room buzzed with chatter as everyone grew increasingly curious about the uncanny precision of Bai Feifei's movements.
Liu Yun stood behind the crowd with her hands clasped behind her back, her face remaining a mask of calm.
Yet, her eyes never left the screen.
She was just as curious.
Bai Feifei's trajectory made it obvious that she knew all the coordinate points beforehand, hunting them down one by one with deliberate intent.
This was definitely not luck. It was highly calculated.
Liu Yun lowered her eyes, realizing the answer was already glaringly obvious.
—The Masked Hermit Society!
That organization must have thoroughly researched this area beforehand, and Bai Feifei was merely their most visible operative on the surface.
It seemed Dawn City was indeed in troubled waters to be targeted by such an organization...
Right then, a sharp, piercing alarm suddenly tore through the air of the monitoring room.
“BEEP—BEEP—BEEP—”
A red light on the signal receiver began to flash frantically, emitting an incredibly grating sound.
Instantly, every technician from Turing City snapped their heads up.
The academy assessors were also startled, looking toward the source of the noise in confusion.
The lead engineer's face fell instantly. He practically launched himself out of his chair, rushing over to the signal receiver in a few strides. As he stared at the fluctuating data on the screen, his expression shifted from shock to pure rage!
“Who is it?!” He whipped around, his deadpan eyes from earlier now practically blazing with fury. “Who was transmitting information outside just now?!”
“Who is sending signals using our Turing City equipment?!”
The monitoring room fell silent, everyone utterly baffled by his sudden outburst.
“Is something wrong, Mr. Xie?” one of the academy assessors asked, bewildered.
The engineer, whose name was Xie Xuan, gritted his teeth and swept his gaze across everyone in the room.
“A group of death-row fugitives once escaped from Turing City. We flagged the frequencies of every single communication device they carried.”
“No matter where they go, if our signal receivers detect those frequencies, the alarm will trigger immediately!”
“Just now, it went off.”
Xie Xuan pointed a trembling finger at the flashing signal receiver, his voice turning icy cold, laced with a hint of murderous intent.
“I never expected... to run into them here.”
His chest heaved with fury as he ground his teeth.
“Someone in this room is in contact with our traitor.”
Tian Guannan raised an eyebrow. After a moment of consideration, he stepped forward and said dismissively,
“Why get so worked up? Are you sure someone is sending messages? Couldn't it just be some other signal interference?”
“Shut your damn mouth!” Xie Xuan snapped, completely dropping all politeness as he roared at Tian Guannan. “A tech-illiterate useless fool like you has no right to question Turing City's technology!”
The entire monitoring room fell dead silent.
No one had expected him to snap so violently.
The instructors from the various academies didn't dare say a word, exchanging uneasy glances.
Tian Guannan was left dumbfounded. He never imagined anyone would have the audacity to point a finger and curse him out to his face. His expression instantly turned livid.
“You!...”
Xie Xuan turned away, completely ignoring Tian Guannan, and locked his eyes onto Liu Yun.
“Prophet Liu,” he said, his voice dropping to a low, ominous rumble.
“We of Turing City travel the continent to provide the world with technological convenience, but we do so under strict agreements.”
“The absolute first condition of our partnership is that you must never harbor Turing City's traitors.”
“If anyone associates with those people...”
His gaze was sharp enough to slice through bone. Even when facing a Prophet like Liu Yun, he showed absolutely no intention of backing down.
“...then they will never be a friend of Turing City!”
...
Outside the red soil restricted zone, the atmosphere was thick with tension.
But Bai Feifei was completely oblivious to all of this.
Right now, on the red wasteland.
A slender black figure was still leveling up all by herself.
She was "selfishly" monopolizing all the points of the Graduation Show.
Bai Feifei looked down at the smoking corpse at her feet, wiped a splash of dark blood from her face, and let out a long breath.
Warm experience points flowed through her veins, flooding her entire body. The warm current washed over her, bringing a deeply satisfying sensation even to the marrow of her bones.
On her game panel, her level, which had been stuck at Level 45 for a long time, finally ticked upward.
【Current Level: Level 45 → Level 46】
The moment she leveled up, all her exhaustion was instantly washed away.
The soreness in her shoulders vanished, the heaviness in her legs dissipated, and even her breathing became light and effortless. It was as if her entire body had been completely rejuvenated.
Master Bai's hours of hard labor had finally paid off.
Bai Feifei rolled her wrists, her joints cracking softly as her lips curled into a faint smile.
Leveling up really was the best feeling in the world.
It was highly addictive!
Just as she was about to charge forward again, her heart suddenly leaped.
The effect of the Heart of the World Medal suddenly triggered.
A cold gleam flashed in her eyes. Without a moment's hesitation, her body reacted before her brain could even process the threat.
She whipped her wrist around and swung her longsword upward in a fierce backhand slash toward her flank!
The blade tore through the air with a sharp, whistling shriek.
Clang!!
A deafening crash echoed across the barren red soil as sparks flew from the collision of metal.
A massive force surged down the blade, sending a jolt that numbed the webbing of her hand.
Her eyes narrowed.
A figure was actually forced out of thin air by the sheer impact of her strike.
The figure was tall and lean, clad in a dusty grey cloak. As he materialized from the air, faint ripples of distorted light still clung to his outline.
His stealthy entrance was reminiscent of Yi Jing.
He raised his hand, holding a strangely shaped dagger in a reverse grip.
It was this very blade that had clashed with Bai Feifei's longsword just a moment ago.
The man grinned, licking his dry, chapped lips. A faint green light gleamed in his eyes, mixed with a trace of surprise.
“Hehe... You've got quick reflexes, little girl.”
