Chapter 101 · Volume 1

The Graduation Show and the Arrogant Inner City Youth

Bai Feifei tried her absolute best to keep a straight face when she said those words.
Wan Qianhong stared at her for several seconds with a look that clearly asked, “Are you kidding me?”
With a sigh, she picked up the document again.
“Fine, I’ll give you a brief introduction then.”
“Qingping Academy’s students are all children of the influential elite, gifted with extraordinary talent.”
“Every graduation season, the academy forms an Elite Class. These students are the best of the best, provided with exclusive mentors, a specialized curriculum, and assigned high-difficulty missions.”
“You are to provide combat training for these individuals.”
“As it happens, time is running out. You’re likely the only one who can improve their combat level in such a short period.”
Bai Feifei’s lip twitched as she keenly picked up on the key piece of information.
“What do you mean by ‘time is running out’?”
Wan Qianhong closed the file and looked at her.
“The Graduation Show!”
“The graduation mission for every academy’s Elite Class is different from that of ordinary students. They have to participate in a real combat operation.”
“The specific details of the combat haven’t been fully finalized yet, but it should involve something like clearing out aberrations in the Outer City.”
Hearing this, Xu Mo spoke in her mind as if suddenly realizing something:
“Oh, right. I think I remember something like that.”
“The Graduation Show... If I recall correctly, they went to the North District of the Outer City for some fun, hunting aberrations, and ended up being completely wiped out.”
Listening to the voice in her head, Bai Feifei fell into a silent contemplation.
Seeing no reaction from Bai Feifei, Wan Qianhong continued:
“The students of the Qingping Academy Elite Class... will likely be quite a handful.”
“Being children of the major families with high talent, they’ve been pampered since childhood. Their personalities are, to some extent, unruly.”
Bai Feifei was momentarily stunned. “Unruly?”
“Word is they’ve already driven away several instructors.”
Bai Feifei: “...”
With that, Wan Qianhong looked up at Bai Feifei.
“Of course, those things aren’t important. There’s no doubt you can handle it. I just wanted to say...”
She paused, the words seemingly getting stuck in her throat halfway through.
“What?” Bai Feifei looked at her with confusion.
Wan Qianhong pursed her lips as if struggling with her phrasing before finally blurting it out.
“I just wanted to say that no matter how unruly they are, they’ll definitely pale in comparison to you.”
“If any problems arise... they’re still students and haven’t committed any real wrongs. If they offend you, please be patient.”
“When the time comes, go easy on them. Don’t break them, okay?”
Bai Feifei’s jaw dropped slightly as she listened, completely stunned.
What kind of talk was that?
What did she mean by that!
Her first instinct was actually to worry about her using “excessive force”?
Was she that kind of person?
Thinking of this, Bai Feifei’s confidence suddenly wavered.
Tsk... Although she wasn't that kind of person, it seemed someone else was.
Seeing her silence, Wan Qianhong quickly added:
“I know you have a sense of propriety. I’m just reminding you. If some of those disrespectful second-generation brats act out, you can teach them a lesson and no one will dare trouble you, but for heaven’s sake, don’t kill anyone.”
Then, she took out her phone and gave it a slight shake.
“I’ll send the academy’s specific location, maps, and other details to your phone in a bit. If you’re okay with it, prepare to take office as soon as possible.”
“You can start thinking ahead about how you plan to improve their practical combat skills.”
Bai Feifei gave a dry response. “I understand.”
In her mind, Xu Mo let out a meaningful, eerie chuckle.
The laughter was very soft, but Bai Feifei naturally heard it.
“Heh heh heh—”
Hearing that sound, Bai Feifei felt her blood pressure starting to spike.
“What are you laughing at?” she asked warily in her mind.
“Nothing,” Xu Mo said. “I just think that, in a way, this mission is actually quite interesting.”
Bai Feifei: “...”
...
Qingping Academy.
The early morning sunlight spilled over the walls of Qingping Academy. The tops of the walls were inlaid with dark gold patterns that shimmered with a luxurious luster in the sunlight.
The main gates were made of black wrought iron. Embedded in the gateposts was the school emblem—two crossed longswords with vines wrapped around the blades—the symbol of the academy.
The Elite Class.
While called a class, it was actually located far from the normal teaching areas, housed in an independent training hall within a grove of trees that occupied half the size of a playground.
At this moment, inside the spacious training hall, a group of people were lounging haphazardly on mats.
“Did you hear? We’re getting another new instructor.” A boy with his training uniform tied around his waist leaned against the wall, clutching an unsharpened training dagger.
“Another one?” A short-haired girl nearby rolled her eyes.
“The last one ran off after only three days. How long can this one last?”
“I bet two days,” another girl said with a giggle, raising her hand.
“I bet they’ll leave the same day!”
A boy doing push-ups spoke up with some exasperation:
“There’s less than two months left. Is it really necessary to keep sending combat instructors one after another?”
“It’s completely meaningless—just empty formalism wasting our time. We might as well just practice on our own.”
His words immediately gained the approval of everyone in the class, who chimed in one after another:
“Exactly, it’s totally pointless!”
“How can you even teach combat? It’s just that their rank, vitality, and Word Soul are a bit stronger than ours. If we were at the same level, who knows who would win?”
“Yeah, and according to the Inner City’s requirements, the instructor can only be a Rank 5 Scavenger or lower. That’s not much stronger than us, is it?”
The training hall was filled with chatter, the students showing utter disdain for the upcoming formalism.
Suddenly, a female voice rang out: “I got some news from home yesterday.”
This voice seemed to hold considerable prestige in the class, as everyone turned their heads in unison.
In the corner, a girl sat on a table.
She had her feet propped on the edge of the table and her back against the wall, arms crossed. Her pink hair was particularly striking in the dim light of the training hall.
“Our new teacher seems to be a Rank 4 Scavenger around our age. My family even told me to get along well with her.”
She hopped off the table, her boots making a crisp thud as they hit the wooden floor.
The entire training hall went silent for a moment, then erupted into even louder discussion.
“Only Rank 4? And around our age?”
“Isn’t that ridiculous? What is there to teach? This is a joke. Honestly, there’s no need for this. We don’t need an instructor to win the Graduation Show!”
The students talked over each other, creating a ruckus, before turning their eyes back to the pink-haired girl.
“Sister Ye, don’t you have any thoughts on this?”
She glanced around at the people surrounding her and spoke in a sarcastic tone:
“What thoughts could I have? It’s the school’s arrangement.”
She paused, balancing the tip of the dagger she had been spinning on the end of one finger, keeping it perfectly steady.
Then, a very strange smile appeared on her face.
“But to make sure they aren’t just here to use us to pad their resume, let’s prepare a ‘welcome ceremony.’”
“We’ll see if she actually has the qualifications to teach us.”
