Amy thought about it and said, “Hey, Fufu, you make a lot of sense.”
However, when Amy got home, she saw several police officers standing in her house, talking to her father. After asking around, she found out that the exorcist from before was actually a fraud who had been arrested just today. The police had come to return the massive sum of money the fraud had swindled.
Amy was completely stunned. “Huh? A fraud?”
Actually, Amy's father had reacted the same way at first. But now, he suddenly understood why the exorcist had been in such a hurry to leave in the middle of their conversation earlier today. It turned out the man had realized he was in danger and wanted to flee, but it was already too late.
The police officer was still talking. “Ghosts, exorcism tools—it's all fake. You shouldn't trust these people of unknown origin.”
Especially when thinking about how the amount involved in this case was as high as several hundred thousand, cold sweat couldn't help but break out on the officer's forehead. Good heavens, this family was way too rich. More importantly, they didn't even seem particularly heartbroken after being swindled out of so much money.
Amy's father nodded. “I understand, I understand. I'll pay more attention next time and won't trust this kind of person so easily!”
It had to be said that just a short while ago, David had solemnly guaranteed that extraordinary forces absolutely existed in this world. Yet, as soon as she returned home, the event Amy believed most likely to involve extraordinary power turned out to be fake. If even the ghost she had seen with her own eyes was a scam, how credible could David's words actually be?
Amy couldn't help but fall into deep doubt. Freya comforted her at this moment, saying, “Maintain a skeptical attitude toward everything in the world. Suspect whether there might be extraordinary power behind those strange events, but also suspect whether those claimed extraordinary events are just people playing tricks.”
“Anyway, we've both joined the 【Supernatural Research Society】 now, and we have a bunch of like-minded friends around us. There's plenty of time in the future, so we can research it slowly, right?”
Amy thought about it and said, “Mhm, yeah, isn't that exactly why we joined the 【Supernatural Research Society】?”
The next day, school started, and Freya went to her classes as usual. Because of their connection through the 【Supernatural Research Society】, she and the class president, Andrew, gradually became more familiar with each other. Along with that, her interactions with other classmates in the class also increased, no longer limited to only speaking with Amy like before.
For Freya, she felt more of a school atmosphere now. For the other students, it was as if Freya, the incredibly beautiful top student, had suddenly become more outgoing. This was naturally a good thing—who wouldn't want to chat more with a cute classmate?
Three more days passed, and the day of the underground extraordinary gathering arrived. This time, War Freya went alone; Euphemia did not accompany her.
Unlike last time, however, the gathering had changed locations, though the process remained the same. After arriving, War Freya mentioned she was introduced by Old Pelican and successfully entered, even though she had absolutely no idea who Old Pelican actually was.
As she arrived at her destination, took her seat, and waited for the gathering to begin, War Freya couldn't help but think of the 【Supernatural Research Society】.
As the organizer wearing the white mask announced the start of the gathering, War Freya noticed that there were two fewer participants than last time. The protruding-tongue masked man, who had agreed to bring her a Law potion, was one of them.
At this moment, a person wearing a fanged wild boar mask looked in Freya's direction and said testily, “Your commission got that protruding-tongue masked guy killed.”
War Freya remembered this person. During the last gathering, the protruding-tongue masked man had posted a commission to help kill a Rank Two Law extraordinary, and this was the very person who had accepted it.
War Freya asked in confusion, “What happened exactly?”
The fanged wild boar masked man said, “I'm not too clear on the exact details either. Because of the commission last time, we met in private to exchange information. After he told me who the target was, he had me go observe first and look for an opportunity, while he went to get a Law potion for you.”
The protruding-tongue masked man had sold Law potions at the gathering many times before, which everyone attending knew. The fanged wild boar masked man hadn't thought much of it at first. But who could have expected that when he finished scouting and was preparing to act, he would find the protruding-tongue masked man already dead?
Another person in the gathering said, “Maybe there was an issue with his channel. After all, getting potions from official hands is risky, so it's normal for accidents to happen.”
The fanged wild boar masked man said, “I know. I'm just mentioning it.”
Strictly speaking, the fanged wild boar masked man didn't mean to blame War Freya. After all, the protruding-tongue masked man had died on his own. However, he was definitely still annoyed. He was all prepared to make a move, but then the employer died, and his hundred and fifty thousand went down the drain. Who wouldn't be upset?
But War Freya said, “How did you find out he was dead? Where did he die? If he was caught by the authorities, normally they would lock him up in prison. Why would they kill him directly?”
Hearing this, the fanged wild boar masked man was clearly stunned as well. He said, “At the place where we agreed to meet and exchange information, I saw his corpse...”
“Damn it!” The one who spoke was none other than the organizer of the gathering, the man wearing the white mask. He immediately pointed his hand toward the passage the fanged wild boar masked man had come down from. As his spirituality surged, the soil began to shake and close up; he wanted to seal off this entrance.
But at the exact same time, figures wearing white skull masks rushed out rapidly from the closing dirt stairs. With a wave of their hands, they unleashed beams of dark green light.
Unlike the light cannon used by Life Freya, these dark green beams were short and small, looking like glowing green bullets flying toward everyone present.
Seeing that he couldn't stop them, the organizer, the white-masked man, actually stopped his ability directly, crouching down to hide behind the two black-robed men next to him.
“Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!”
Because this all happened too suddenly—like a group of people having a meal when a gang of armed robbers suddenly burst in and started shooting—even though those dining were not ordinary people but extraordinaries, many failed to react in time.
Many were struck by the dark green beams. Their expressions instantly turned into painful contortions as their faces paled, and they clutched the areas where they had been hit, rolling on the ground in agony.
