Time passed. Before the next extraordinary gathering could begin, the day Freya's school term started arrived first.
However, the day before school started, Freya set off for Amy's house. As promised, she had bought Amy some local specialties from the empire as souvenirs and was bringing them over today.
Amy's home was also a manor villa, though Amy wasn't actually a noble. Her father seemed to be a prominent merchant in Auxerre. Arriving at the entrance and looking at the courtyard, which seemed even larger than Euphemia's, Freya couldn't help but sigh silently to herself, “Why does it feel like all my friends are rich girls?”
Then, she said to a guard standing at the gate, “Hello, I'm Amy's classmate. I'm here to see Amy. Could you please let her know?”
The guard replied, “Please wait a moment.”
As he spoke, the guard walked toward the villa. Before long, Amy came jogging out to Freya. She waved and smiled, “Fufu, long time no see!”
Freya also smiled. “Amy, long time no see. Also, here is a gift I brought for you.”
As she spoke, she handed over a bag she was carrying and said, “These are some small souvenirs I bought in the Fanipaca Empire. They're things we don't have in the kingdom.”
Receiving it, Amy said, “Thank you so much! Since you're already here, why don't you come inside and sit for a while? Fufu, you've never been to my house before, right?”
She didn't ask Freya exactly when she had returned or why she had waited until the day before school started to deliver the gifts. On the contrary, just having Freya come visit made her incredibly happy.
In such a joyful atmosphere, why talk about or ask such meaningless things?
Freya didn't refuse the invitation. She followed Amy inside and headed straight for Amy's bedroom. However, as they passed the living room, she saw a man in formal wear and glasses chatting with another man whose hair was somewhat messy and who looked slightly disheveled.
Amy waved to the man with glasses and said, “Dad, I brought my classmate over to hang out for a bit.”
Then, without waiting for a response, she pulled Freya's hand and left. Amy's bedroom was exactly what Freya stereotypically imagined—a cute room with a pink color scheme. Inside, there were piles of various dolls, large and small, fluffy and adorable.
Amy pulled Freya onto the bed and said excitedly, “Fufu, tell me all about what you did in the empire! I'm so curious!”
Freya replied, “There wasn't really much to do. Just sightseeing, walking around, and eating some food we don't have here.”
Amy said, “Even so, I'm still curious! After all, I've never even left this city, so I have no idea what the outside world is like.”
This actually made Freya a bit puzzled. “With your family's financial situation, Amy, traveling and going on trips should be very easy, right?”
Amy replied, “It's because Dad doesn't want me running around. He says being too far from home is dangerous, but how could there be any danger? Fufu, didn't you have a great time and come back completely safe?”
Freya didn't say anything, but she silently complained in her heart, 'In a way, your dad is absolutely right. The outside world is indeed very dangerous.'
If nothing else, even if Freya hadn't actively intervened in the matter of the rampaging extraordinary, Luna, what if an ordinary person just happened to run into such an out-of-control extraordinary? Wouldn't that be extremely dangerous?
Freya thought for a moment and told Amy about her experiences in the empire, the various things she encountered, and the delicious food she ate. Inevitably, she frequently mentioned a name: Euphemia.
Amy asked, “Fufu, is this Euphy... your close friend?”
Freya said, “A very good friend!”
Then, seeing Amy pout her lips slightly, she immediately added, “Of course, Amy is also my very, very good friend!”
Amy said, “That's more like it.”
During their chat, Freya casually looked around Amy's room. Then, right on the desk of this cute bedroom, she spotted a white object that seemed to be carved out of some kind of bone.
Freya raised an eyebrow slightly and asked, “What's this?”
Amy glanced at it and said, “Oh, that's a tool for warding off evil.”
Freya asked, “Warding off evil?”
Amy said, “Well, Fufu, are you afraid of ghosts and spirits? Let me tell you, ghosts really seem to exist! I actually saw one with my own eyes once!”
“Recently, my house seems to have been haunted by some dirty thing. This was placed here by an exorcist my dad hired. It's apparently made from some very precious ivory and has the effect of warding off evil.”
Freya could see that when Amy said this, there wasn't a trace of fear on her face. Instead, she looked eager and excited, as if she were extremely interested.
Freya showed a thoughtful expression. “Ghosts?”
This was a world with extraordinary powers, so the existence of ghosts was perfectly normal. However, this was the first time she had ever heard of an exorcist. If such a thing happened, shouldn't they go to the authorities, like the Special Service?
Oh, right. As an ordinary person, Amy's father probably didn't even know the Special Service existed.
Freya said, “Is this exorcist... actually reliable? He's not a con artist, is he?”
Amy tilted her head slightly. “Why do you say that? Before that exorcist came to our house, a lot of strange things happened. But after he came and performed the exorcism, all those strange occurrences disappeared. I think he's pretty reliable, right?”
Freya said, “I'd like to ask, how much did your dad spend to hire this exorcist?”
Amy said, “Well, I don't know the exact details, but it didn't seem to be too much. I think he spent around two hundred thousand just to buy some evil-warding tools.”
Freya was speechless. “?”
If she was only suspicious before, now Freya was almost certain that this exorcist was most likely a fraud. The main reason was that this was just too easy a way to make money.
Amy didn't realize this at all. She said, “Oh, by the way, since ghosts exist in this world, do you think other supernatural powers exist too? Could there be things like superpowers?!”
