The scenery before her eyes shifted abruptly, and a sudden sensation of high pressure descended upon her. She adjusted quickly, her snow-white hair billowing in the fierce wind, strands fluttering elegantly in the air.
Where... is this?
She looked at the surrounding architecture, which possessed a heavy marine-style theme. Some buildings were even shaped like sea creatures, and a white, seawater-like substance flowed through the town.
A town on the sea?
Li Yue cautiously released her Death Abyss, letting it spread out slowly. After a moment, it seemed to reach an edge. She paused, startled. This place was... in mid-air?
These things that look like seawater are actually clouds... Such a dreamlike sight. This truly is an interesting dream. So, what am I supposed to do here?
She began to wander through the small town. She could sense many life forms around her, but starting a fight here didn't seem like a good choice. The only place everyone seemed to be heading toward was the massive whale at the very center of the town.
Li Yue sensed the aura of life. It seemed people had already set off toward that central whale. Sounds of fighting drifted from within—fire... ice... and curse magic. Interesting. Is it a free-for-all? Are they fighting over something?
With a flash of movement, Li Yue appeared before the whale's gaping maw. A blue water curtain blocked the way, seemingly separating the interior from the outside. She sensed it for a moment and, feeling no significant threat, walked straight in.
It was a golden hall with several statues scattered about, resembling a temple. People sat beneath some of the statues, protected by golden halos. These were likely the ones who had reached the temple first and claimed their respective statues.
This is...
Li Yue sensed them carefully. Most of these statues carried a divine aura, feeling very similar to the God's remains she had encountered before. Those crouching beneath them were either already in possession of a corresponding piece of God's remains or were individuals close to the rank of Great Mage who had yet to acquire one.
..............
Where is my "Death"?
Li Yue pinched her own cheek, seemingly lost in thought. Two individuals in the center of the temple, who appeared to be Great Mages, were still fighting over a seat. Li Yue didn't quite understand it; most Great Mages could only absorb a single piece of God's remains. Perhaps they were fighting to try and break the limits of humanity.
On the other hand, they could be trying to turn them into artifacts, though that was far too extravagant. She hadn't encountered such a thing yet, or rather, even if she had, she would disdain using them.
Others might be trying to perfect their own magic. In short, God's remains were things that the more one had, the better. It wasn't unheard of for a Great Mage to hold two pieces, though usually one was a vital part and the other was something less significant.
People like Li Yue, who possessed two or more vital parts, had usually reached the level of the Five Staves or even the higher Calamity class. These people had completely broken free from human constraints and reached the level of demigods. If they could handle the conflict between divinity and humanity, they wouldn't face much rejection from the God's remains.
A piece of God's remains must be buried within that statue. That's likely it; the aura is identical. And since stone statues have no biological activity, it's no wonder they're fighting so fiercely for them.
Li Yue strolled through the hall with ease. There was no second vassal of Death here, no one to compete with her for the remains. She released her own death energy, and for a time, no one dared to trouble her.
Someone began to target the people shrouded in the statues' light. They launched several tentative spells at the statues, but the omnipresent white mist rolled in again. A divine phantom manifested once more, delivering a powerful lightning strike that directly pierced through the probing magic user.
It seemed these statues were protected. They appeared to be gods from before the War of the Gods. She had seen their silhouettes in dreams, so they weren't entirely unfamiliar. The owner of this tomb had also died during that era, so it was natural for these gods to appear in the dream.
The two mages were still clashing. Li Yue wandered around the hall, circling it once, but she couldn't find a statue of Jormungandr. Perhaps it was too large to be placed here?
She tilted her body slightly to dodge a stray spell. She frowned, looking a bit irritated. She looked at the statue being fought over and felt something was off.
This deity... is so unfamiliar. It looks like a mythological creature born after the Mythological Era. Who was it killed by again? It seems it was slain by the Will of Destruction and the Afterglow of the Twilight. This statue feels a bit out of place.
No, this isn't what was recorded in the books. Its body didn't look like that. This must be a god born of imagination. In that case, those two magic users are...?
She rapidly delivered two slashes toward the two in the air. Immediately after, she activated Blood Moon, encompassing the statue within her domain. The two outside were left dazed by her strikes, and for a moment, they didn't even notice the statue they had been fighting for was gone.
Li Yue delivered a blow to the canine creature statue, which had its eyes tightly shut. Massive cracks appeared across the statue's body, and the world of the Blood Moon quickly collapsed. To her surprise, the two magic users actually began to attack her in unison.
Li Yue raised an eyebrow. This seemed to confirm her suspicion: these two magic users were most likely fake as well. She swiftly delivered two more slashes, her blood-red sword energy piercing straight through the temple and leaving scarlet scars across the town.
At that moment, the statue shattered. From the dust, a pair of shiny objects flew out and landed in her hand. The floor of the hall began to cave in, and Li Yue's body gradually sank into it.
Is this a Gate too?
She looked at the pair of shiny objects in her hand—spherical items, pitch-black, and within them was even a pair of gold vertical pupils...
What are these?
The pair of objects began to float slowly, and the scenery around her changed rapidly. Everything turned crimson, and a pitch-black statue of a giant snake—shrunk countless times yet still the size of a mountain—appeared before her.
She froze. In that single moment of hesitation, the pair of eyes flew toward her own pale eyes.
Are these... my eyes?
No... these aren't my eyes. These are His eyes...
No... these are the blank, missing parts of my eyes...
No, no, no... wait a second...
