The Amons were equally frenzied.
Their warriors swung battle-axes, spears, and hunting bows, their amber eyes bloodshot. Their three-meter-tall frames crashed through the slave ranks; a single downward swing of a battle-axe could cleave a slave and their armor in two.
Archers continuously pulled their bowstrings, raining emerald arrows toward the fortress like a torrential storm.
Priests stood atop the bastions, pointing short staves. Emerald pillars of light, vine whips, and wooden spikes shot incessantly into the ranks of the Wizard World's camp.
Ethan saw an Amons warrior tackled to the ground by three mechanical hounds. His battle-axe had been knocked away, so he struck with his fists and bit with his teeth.
He bit into the neck of one mechanical hound, the dark silver metal armor creaking under the pressure as pale blue blood surged from the corners of his mouth.
Another mechanical hound lunged from the side, clamping onto his throat.
He continued to struggle, his limbs kicking frantically until his head was completely torn off, only then did he stop moving.
A slave's chest was pierced by an emerald light beam, sending his body flying backward into the companions behind him. Before he even hit the ground, three more beams struck him.
His body was vaporized in mid-air, leaving not even ashes behind.
The companion behind him stepped into his position expressionlessly, only to be pierced by a light beam in the next second.
In the sky, a flying contract beast with a fifteen-meter wingspan tore at an equally massive Amons flying magical beast.
The contract beast's talons ripped open the magical beast's belly, spilling pale blue blood and organs from the sky. Simultaneously, the magical beast's beak pierced the contract beast's eye socket, splashing dark red blood from the heights.
The two giants plummeted from the sky in a tangled mess, crashing into the battlefield below and crushing a dozen Amons warriors and an equal number of slaves into meat paste.
Every moment, hundreds of thousands of lives were lost.
Ethan stood on the platform, watching the figures constantly falling on the projection screens.
Pale blue, dark red, and grayish-white blood flowed freely across the plain, merging into streams and pooling in low-lying areas. Corpses piled up like mountains, layer upon layer.
Some were still twitching; others were completely still. New corpses were piled on top, while old ones were trampled into the mud.
The sounds of shouting, screaming, bones shattering, flesh tearing, and energy explosions blended together, echoing within the fortress from the screens.
The Wizards could not leave the law radiation range of the War Fortress.
The War Fortress had just arrived, and the law modification arrays inside were still operating. They needed time to adjust the energy particle frequency of this region to match the Wizard World.
Until the adjustment was complete, an Official Wizard would not even be able to exert a tenth of their strength once they left the fortress's radiation range.
Therefore, the current fighting was mainly being done by slaves and other expendable assets.
The Wizards remained within the radiation range of the War Fortress, standing on various platforms at the edge of the fortress or hovering in mid-air, coldly observing the battlefield below.
Some held staves, some stood with arms crossed, and some even spoke in low voices with their companions, as if the battle below—where hundreds of thousands died every moment—was merely an inconsequential performance.
The cannon fodder legions and the Amons warriors were like two different-colored tides clashing on the plain, splashing flesh and blood.
Every second, countless lives were torn apart, and every second, new lives filled the gaps.
This was a World War.
It wasn't a duel between two Wizards. It wasn't the small-scale missions in the academy. It was countless lives undergoing the most primitive and bloody meat-grinding on this plain.
And he, Ethan Leo, a Third-Tier Wizard Apprentice, didn't even count as a speck of dust in this war.
Ethan stood on the platform and stared at the screens for a long time.
"Holy hell, if I were the one killing all of them, how much Life Energy would I get? What a waste, what a waste."
Shaking his head, Ethan turned and walked toward the command center.
When he was a kilometer away from the command center, two Treants stepped out from the shadows on both sides of the road, blocking his path.
These Treants were three meters tall, their wooden bodies shimmering with faint dark gold patterns, and the leaves atop their heads were a deep, almost ink-like green.
"The command center is under martial law. Unauthorized apprentices may not approach," the Treant on the left said, its voice devoid of any emotion.
Ethan stopped and placed his right hand over his chest. "Lord, I am here to return a mission."
"Which mission?"
"Infiltrating Amons World to construct Wizard Towers and teleportation arrays."
The dark green leaves of the Treant on the right unfurled slightly. "Name."
"Ethan Leo, Blood Bone Tower Academy."
A palm-sized, pale blue crystal plate appeared in the Treant's palm. It looked down, and its leaves suddenly stood on end.
"Ethan Leo. Constructed five Wizard Towers and five teleportation arrays. Mission completion: Perfect."
The leaves of the Treant on the left also stood up.
The Treant raised its arm and pointed to the side. "The command center currently has no personnel to process your mission. Go to the Mission Posting Point to submit it."
Ethan nodded and turned to leave.
The hall of the Mission Posting Point was empty.
When Ethan pushed the door open, even his footsteps echoed. In the spacious hall, aside from several rows of empty benches and black stone tablets on the walls scrolling through mission information, there was only one Treant on duty.
The Treant stood behind the counter, its emerald leaves drooping slightly as if it were bored out of its mind. Hearing the footsteps, its leaves snapped upright.
"It's you!" the Treant said with a hint of surprise. "Why are you here? Didn't you go out for the big battle?"
"Submitting a mission."
"Oh, right, right. You went to complete the Master's infiltration mission. Let me check the mission briefing."
The Treant tapped the crystal plate in front of it twice.
"Ah, found it. Five Wizard Towers, five teleportation arrays, all completed. Mission completion: Perfect. Haha, I knew you could do it."
As it spoke, the Treant continued its operations. A few seconds later, it pulled out a card.
"Alright, here is a voucher for five hundred thousand magic stones. You can exchange it at the Supply Exchange at any time."
"Alright, thank you."
Ethan put the card into his ring and bid the Treant farewell.
The doors of the War Fortress's Supply Exchange were more than twice as wide as those of the Mission Posting Point.
Unfortunately, it was also empty now, devoid of any signs of life.
Behind the counter directly facing the door, a Treant had its head down, its emerald leaves drooping slightly as if it were dozing off.
Seriously? Even Treants slack off?
How is it exactly the same as the Spirit Bone Guards at Blood Bone Tower?
The sound of footsteps woke it up.
Its leaves snapped upright as the Treant raised its head, its emerald eyes scanning Ethan. "Ahem, what do you want?"
Ethan walked to the counter, took the voucher from his ring, and placed it on the surface.
"Exchanging for magic stones."
The Treant took the voucher and swiped its finger across the crystal plate.
"Five hundred thousand magic stones, confirmed. Do you want to exchange them for magic stones or magic crystals?"
