Chapter 54 · Volume 1

A Good, Thrifty Kid

Seeing his respectful, even sycophantic demeanor, Bai Xiaodu stretched his limbs, pulled his hood back on, and got up to head outside.
“I have a general idea of what you're thinking. This matter can be considered small or large. However, I have no right to forgive on behalf of someone else. Let's see your sincerity.”
With that, Bai Xiaodu headed straight for the villa.
It was a European-style villa built against a dense, lush forest.
The main gate featured complex, intricate carvings that exuded a solemn, stately vibe. Its white marble outer walls arched high, and a clear pond sat not far away.
Unfortunately, it was too dark to see the glowing effect the entire building would have under the sunlight.
This little bastard sure knows how to enjoy life.
Bai Xiaodu stood on a protruding rock not far away.
Looking at the magnificent building before him, his eyes practically burned with jealousy!
In his own crappy apartment, if he jumped twice, the neighbors upstairs would yell and the ones to his right would make a fuss. If he made even the slightest bit of noise, a trembling ninety-year-old grandma would immediately come over to argue with him.
Damn it, I hate rich people the most. When will simple, kind, ordinary folks like me finally be able to stand up and live in a house like this?
If we can't all move in, when can I at least move in first?!
It's enough to make a man shake with rage!
Seeing Katemor and the others catching up, Bai Xiaodu quickly led them to the outer wall.
Looking at the solid marble wall, Katemor showed a look of difficulty.
“Mr. Bai, the main gate is clearly much lower. I reckon that guy is alone anyway. Let's just scale the gate openly and get it over with.”
Bai Xiaodu flatly refused.
“Who fights someone head-on if they can avoid it? I've always lived by a single rule: if you can launch a sneak attack, never trade blows directly.”
Nodding in deep agreement, Katemor looked up at the outer wall.
“My physical fitness is decent. With a boost, I should be able to jump up myself. But how are the other boys going to get up...”
Before he could finish, Bai Xiaodu raised both hands.
“【Gust】.”
A strong, greenish-white draft of air quickly rose from the ground. Under Katemor's astonished gaze, his body was slowly lifted into midair by the wind.
Once his position was secured, the greenish-white energy enveloping him suddenly flared, and Katemor landed steadily on top of the outer wall.
A trace of wariness appeared in his eyes, accompanied by a sense of relief.
Flight capability.
Perhaps he might have had a chance to threaten Bai Xiaodu in close combat before, but once flight was factored in, they were completely on different levels.
Fortunately, he had chosen to help rather than stubbornly fighting to the end just to save face as a boss.
Otherwise, he wouldn't even know how he died.
The others were lifted in the same manner, one by one, scaling the wall and dropping into the villa's yard.
The group stealthily quieted their footsteps, keeping low as they slowly crept closer.
The villa's main hall was empty, its floor completely covered in marble tiles. Combined with the strange light fixtures and wooden tables and chairs that looked expensive at a glance, it felt like a church in the dead of night with no worshippers.
It seemed everyone was a bunch of country bumpkins who had never seen the world. The first thing they did after climbing in was look around in curiosity. Some even quietly slipped small items into their pockets.
Bai Xiaodu naturally despised this behavior. How was this any different from stealing?
He turned around and instructed Katemor.
“In a bit, tell your men to search the inner rooms. Take anything valuable you can find. Take the large items to a furniture market, sell the small ones to gold or silver shops, and smash whatever you can't carry. We'll split the proceeds fifty-fifty. Don't worry, if anything happens, I'll take the blame.”
“Understood!”
Bai Xiaodu nodded in satisfaction, then walked deeper into the villa.
It couldn't be helped. Who told him to be such a thrifty, sensible kid who had to support his household from an early age?
Leo and Katemor simply followed closely behind.
Bai Xiaodu rubbed his chin, walking halfway around the deeper section of the villa.
They searched dozens of rooms, even checking under the beds, but found absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.
He felt like something was off.
It was far too quiet here.
Eerily quiet, in fact.
Xin Hai'an had locked down the guy's ID, so Jedoli definitely knew someone might be coming to get him.
Was he really making no preparations at all?
Just as this thought crossed his mind, the faint sound of musical notes drifted in through the howling wind and rain of the late night.
Ding~ Ding~ Ding~
It sounded like someone playing the piano in the dead of night, a melancholy and depressing melody flowing from between their fingers.
The tune was filled with a sense of loneliness, like someone expressing a love they desired but could never obtain, forced to watch the other party quietly and helplessly.
This sound...
Bai Xiaodu suddenly looked down at his feet.
Damn it, it's hollow below!
There was another level underneath!
So the guy had known he was coming all along and was waiting for him on purpose.
Without a single moment of hesitation, a fierce look flashed across Bai Xiaodu's face, and a brilliant tri-color beam of light suddenly erupted from his hand.
Fire, lightning, ice.
The three elements twisted together, unleashing a terrifying burst of energy that shot straight toward the source of the piano solo!
