Chapter 58 · Volume 1

The Powerful Effect of Incorporeal and Moon Fungus Cake

Needless to say, with the activation of the Specter bloodline, Lynn's Charm Resistance increased once again.
Meanwhile, the passive skill 「Terrain Adaptation」 allowed Lynn to move much more freely across almost any terrain.
At Level 1, 「Terrain Adaptation」 was not yet powerful enough to let Lynn walk on water or tread on lava.
For now, it merely ensured that he wouldn't be easily hindered by roadside branches when traveling through forests, or allowed him to walk as if on flat ground even in slick environments like the sewers.
What Lynn was most interested in, however, was the final skill—「Incorporeal」.
This was the first time he had ever obtained a "one-time skill."
Did "one-time skill" mean it would have some irreversible effect on his body, or did it mean something else?
Lynn tapped to open the skill's description—
【Incorporeal】: Upon activation, the user's physical body phases, entering an incorporeal state. Movement speed is reduced by 70%, but the user gains the ability to ignore most terrain and becomes immune to all damage. Correspondingly, the user cannot interact with the physical world while in this state.
The duration of use must be strictly under three minutes. If the incorporeal state is not deactivated within three minutes, the user will be captured by the gravitational pull of the Underworld and plunge into it.
Using this skill a second time will forcibly drag the user into the Underworld.
...
Lynn frowned.
No wonder it was called a one-time skill.
If used multiple times, it would drop him straight into the Underworld.
The 【Underworld】 was completely different from the 【Underdark】. The Underdark was merely a subterranean world; as long as one could find a passage like an underground river, returning to the surface wasn't exceptionally difficult.
But the Underworld was the actual realm of the dead—an entirely different plane of existence. Once there, he would likely never be able to return.
However, Lynn's furrowed brow soon smoothed out.
No matter what, the effect of this skill was still incredibly potent.
Three minutes of absolute invincibility.
An effect like this spoke for itself.
Even if he couldn't attack enemies during its duration, this was without a doubt the strongest life-saving skill Lynn had obtained so far.
With all the gains from this battle sorted out, Lynn's status panel updated once more—
【Adventurer Lynn: Classless】
【Strength: 10 + 0.15 (Feast Effect)】
【Constitution: 11】
【Agility: 9】
【Intelligence: 9 + 0.075】
【Perception: 9】
【Charisma: 8】
【Skills: Stealth Lv.2, Kidney Strike Lv.2, Backstab Lv.3, Magic Missile Lv.2, Incorporeal (One-Time)】
【Passives: Evocation Control Lv.1, Echolocation Lv.2, Rapid Digestion Lv.2, Terrain Adaptation Lv.1...】
【Feats: Bloodthirsty Feast (Divine Blessing), Robust】
Except for Charisma, all of his attributes had either neared or surpassed the limits of ordinary mortals, reaching the level of a class-holder.
Moreover, his Constitution attribute had leaped to the top, becoming Lynn's most prominent attribute at the moment.
For some reason, looking at his list of passive skills, Lynn felt like he was developing into a bullshit boss from a Soulslike game.
Closing the panel, Lynn's stomach began to rumble.
He hadn't eaten a proper meal all day. Although he had prepared dry rations for this venture into the sewers, he had virtually no appetite in that kind of environment.
Pushing open the window he had shut while showering, a gentle breeze blew in, carrying away the dampness in the room. Beyond the wooden shutters, an exceptionally bright moon hung in the night sky.
It was the perfect time to head downstairs for dinner.
Lynn grabbed his coin pouch and headed downstairs, finding Lupa on the first floor by chance.
“Lynn,” she called out.
Though she called his name, Lupa's body reacted honestly. She subtly adjusted her seating position, placing herself between the food and Lynn, as if terrified that her dinner would be snatched away by him in the blink of an eye.
Food guarding?
Lynn raised an eyebrow and sat down right next to Lupa without any hesitation.
Seeing her food completely exposed to Lynn's gaze, Lupa's face visibly fell.
“I'm sorry, dinner... I couldn't protect you,”
Lynn could almost hear her saying those exact words in her mind.
Still, Lupa forced a smile and said, “You haven't had dinner yet either, right, Lynn? Why don't we share? I happened to order quite a lot.”
Lynn smiled, pretending to dig in.
“Then I won't stand on ceremony,” he said.
Lupa nodded vigorously, almost sending the red beret on her head flying. However, her ears quietly peeked out from beneath the beret, drooping down in defeat.
Feeling like the little beastkin girl was on the verge of tears from his teasing, Lynn finally relented. He called Aurora over, intending to order his own dinner.
To his surprise, when Aurora walked over, she sniffed the air.
Lynn initially thought he still smelled of the sewers and hadn't washed thoroughly enough.
However, the look on Aurora's face was clearly not one of disgust, but rather a slight hint of intoxication.
“What a wonderful fragrance... It smells even sweeter than last time. Mr. Lynn, are you sure you're a human and not some kind of myconid?”
After saying this, Aurora quickly covered her mouth. “Ah, I didn't mean anything by that.”
Lynn knew which occasion Aurora was referring to. She was talking about when he had first activated his slime bloodline, and she had also marveled at his scent.
Come to think of it, the scent on Lynn's body wasn't the kind of fragrance that stimulated hormones, but rather one that leaned more toward being... a food ingredient.
Monsters would probably love it.
And this time, it didn't seem to be because of the Dungeon Slime bloodline activation either.
“It's probably because of this,” Lynn said.
Lynn took out the jar of glowing mushrooms tucked in his shirt. Due to the limited conditions, it was only sealed with a simple layer of clay, so the aroma of the mushrooms still managed to waft out.
Aurora took the jar and pulled out a slice of the fungus to inspect it. She gasped in surprise.
“Glowing mushrooms? How do you have these? Did you go to the Underdark?”
If she remembered correctly, wasn't Lynn a novice adventurer?
Aurora still remembered their very first meeting, when this rather handsome young man had walked into the tavern, covered in grime, carrying a massive sack of gear.
How had he gotten involved with the Underdark in less than a month?
“Oh?”
Lynn hadn't expected Aurora to actually recognize this species.
Intrigued, he asked, “You know about these, Aurora?”
Aurora smiled. “Of course. Back in the elven territories, there was a dish that required glowing mushrooms, moon dust fungi, red cap mushrooms, and blue umbrella mushrooms to prepare.”
Lynn was slightly surprised. How did the dish Aurora mentioned sound so similar to the potion the Wererat had spoken of?
Wasn't that potion also made using glowing mushrooms and three other types of fungi?
“Does this dish you mentioned stimulate the mind after eating it?” Lynn asked.
Aurora replied, “Naturally. We call this dish 【Moon Fungus Cake】.”
“There are rumors in my clan that after eating it, you can see the moon all day long. If a priest eats it, they can even meet the Moon Goddess. In truth, it just causes hallucinations.”
“Besides, you humans learned the recipe from us elves. I heard many Mages love to eat it, apparently because it can stimulate the growth of the Intelligence attribute.”
