Chapter 57 · Volume 1

Feats and the One-Time Skill, Incorporeal

In the midst of this refreshing, sigh-inducing comfort, Lynn's Constitution was subtly reconstructed. The muscle lines on his body gradually softened, yet his sense of strength did not vanish; instead, it transformed into a different kind of aesthetic appeal.
Standing in front of the mirror, Lynn admired the changes in his body.
Now that his nutrition had been fully replenished, he had shot up significantly in height. Paired with his smooth yet unexaggerated muscle definition, he now possessed the dashing look of a handsome youth.
The strength in his body had grown even further.
This increase in strength didn't just stem from the “Strength +1” effect of his new bloodline. It was also because the enhancement of his Constitution had radiated into his Strength attribute.
In truth, there was more or less some connection between different attributes.
Just like before, the increase in Intelligence, Strength, Constitution, and Agility had also driven the growth of his Charisma.
And the two attributes of Strength and Constitution undoubtedly shared a very high degree of correlation.
To a certain extent, Constitution determined whether the Strength attribute could be exerted to its full potential.
Before this, Lynn's Constitution had been relatively low compared to his Strength. Now that he had patched up this shortcoming, he could fully unleash all nine points of his Strength.
Oh, actually, it was ten points of Strength now.
With the activation of the Dungeon Slime bloodline, Lynn's Strength and Constitution had both reached ten points—the threshold separating ordinary people from class-holders.
When a single attribute crossed the ten-point threshold, Lynn felt a marvelous change occur within his body.
His physical vessel seemed to have been reconstructed by the world, forging an inexplicable connection with it.
Lynn could sense that this connection was not unique to him. Everyone in this world would obtain it once an attribute reached ten points.
It was called—[Feat].
Aside from attributes, this was also a massive gap between class-holders and ordinary people.
After gaining a brief understanding of this world's feats in his mind, Lynn felt they could roughly be understood as a weakened version of Runes.
But correspondingly, acquiring them was simpler than obtaining the Runes provided by the 《Monster Identification Manual》. Whenever a single attribute crossed the thresholds of 10, 30, or 50, one could select a feat corresponding to that attribute.
The types of feats available were not randomly bestowed by the world, either.
They were comprehensively shaped by the world based on an individual's past battle records, achievements, and other factors.
Deep within Lynn's consciousness, an undetectable, blurry concept was urging him to quickly make a choice and select his feats.
Lynn hurriedly communicated with this concept. Immediately after, information regarding the feats flooded into his mind.
Constitution Feat Options—
【Robust】: Constitution attribute +1.
【Light Armor Expert】: As a grandmaster of light armor, when you fight while wearing light armor, its impact on your Agility will be significantly reduced.
【Brawler】: Years of street brawling experience have granted you stronger combat capabilities in unarmed combat. When empty-handed and unarmored, Constitution +2, Strength +1.
Strength Feat Options—
【Preemptive Strike】: When you secure the initiative in an attack, the damage dealt by your first attack in the entire battle is increased by 30%.
【Bloodthirsty Feast】 (Divine Blessing): Each time you subjugate an enemy recognized by the gods, you will obtain a certain number of stacks of the [Feast] buff. (One stack of [Feast]: +0.01 Strength, +0.005 Intelligence. Current Feast stacks: 15)
【Blind-Fighting】: Within a three-meter range, you ignore any negative vision restrictions while fighting.
For each Feat category, it was a choice of one out of three.
There was nothing to hesitate about regarding the Constitution feat; he chose 【Robust】 directly.
【Light Armor Expert】 wasn't of much use to a Mage like him who would be able to wrap himself in magic shields in the future.
As for 【Brawler】, although the attribute bonuses were higher, the conditions were too harsh.
It was impossible for Lynn to discard his weapons and engage in hand-to-hand combat with monsters.
However, the Strength feats seemed a bit special.
One of them was labeled “Divine Blessing.”
It seemed to be related to the recognition from Treyer, the God of Fighters.
As for why it wasn't a blessing from the other goddess,
the reason was also simple: the class represented by the other goddess clearly didn't have much to do with the Strength attribute.
Therefore, he barely hesitated when choosing his Strength feat, opting directly for 【Bloodthirsty Feast】.
In the short term, this feat was temporarily inferior to 【Preemptive Strike】, which was equivalent to a giant version of Strike from Shadows. However, the long-term benefits were clearly the highest.
Just the “Divine Blessing” tag alone gave Lynn no reason not to choose it.
After making both selections, the blurry concept in his mind gradually faded away.
Lynn tried to recall the “appearance” of that concept, but he only met with a dark, blank space in his brain.
Forget it.
Lynn looked at the 《Monster Identification Manual》 once more.
A higher-tier bloodline of the Dungeon Slime had already emerged on the bloodline tree, named the 【Slime King】. Its image was a massive, sky-blue gel ball, though the core of this gelatinous ball was no longer circular but resembled a crown.
Activating it required...
A whopping two thousand Bloodline Points!
For a moment, Lynn even thought he had misread it.
However, considering the Challenge Rating of a Slime King, this amount was actually quite reasonable.
According to the records in the guild, even the weakest Slime King had a Challenge Rating of Tier 4 or higher.
Still, Lynn couldn't help but sigh a little.
Two thousand slimes... even if he completely wiped out all the slimes near Wingen Town, he probably wouldn't be able to gather enough!
Better to ignore this for now.
There was still one more bloodline he hadn't activated yet.
Lynn flipped further back in the manual, arriving at the newest page.
Drawn on the left was the likeness of a specter, while on the right...
there was no bloodline tree, only a single avatar.
Specters didn't seem to have different sub-races. Whether they were weak specters without a Challenge Rating or powerful ones at Tier 1 or Tier 2, they all belonged to the same species.
【Do you wish to activate the “Specter” bloodline? Consumes 20 Bloodline Points (Specter).】
There was nothing to hesitate about; he activated it directly.
Exactly twenty points—just enough to spend all his specter Bloodline Points, leaving no excess points for Lynn to exchange for other monster races' bloodline points.
Once the bloodline lit up, Lynn felt a slight discomfort in his body.
Looking down, he saw that a portion of his body had actually turned incorporeal. This wasn't the reduced visibility of using Stealth, but a genuine physical phasing.
Lynn even experienced the sensation of sticking his hand inside his own body.
After plunging his hand into his torso, he stirred his internal organs.
Physically, there wasn't much discomfort, but the bizarre visual left a bit of a psychological shadow, giving him the illusion that his body had truly been pierced through.
Fortunately, the phasing effect quickly passed, and Lynn's hand was pushed out by his body.
Excited, Lynn looked at the specific effects of the 【Specter】 bloodline—
【Specter: Charisma +1, Terrain Adaptation Lv.1 (Passive), 「Incorporeal」 (One-Time Skill)】
