Chapter 36 · Volume 1

Nighttime Hunting

The Monk walked out of the Giant-Winged Bat nest.
He had just entered the nest with Aguda to search for any overlooked bats or treasures gathered by the monsters.
Meanwhile, Lynn and Lupa were outside harvesting the wing membranes of the Giant-Winged Bats.
Of course, Lupa did almost all the work.
As a half-beastkin, Lupa was quite skilled at this kind of hunter's work.
Unlike Lynn, who struggled just to peel a wing membrane off.
The beast-girl also took the opportunity to collect the bats' fangs.
According to her, these bat teeth would make excellent poison arrows once polished.
It could only be said that in the eyes of the right person, every part of these monsters was a treasure.
“Let's go.”
Lynn stretched and took the lead in walking down the mountain.
He planned to sleep for a bit to recover his energy.
Later tonight, he would head back out to hunt a few stray goblins.
By the time the group of four descended the mountain and reached the village, it was already close to dusk.
Upon learning that the adventurers had successfully cleared the Giant-Winged Bat nest, the villagers, who finally had a weight lifted off their chests, naturally hosted them with great warmth.
As for Lynn, who had the highest Charisma attribute, he also received admiring looks from the young girls in the village.
Some of the bolder girls even went so far as to openly wink at him.
Lynn, of course, politely declined all of them.
After spending so much time with Sarah, Lynn had absolutely no interest in these ordinary girls.
After all, in a medieval setting, it was only natural for country girls to suffer from malnutrition.
After dinner, Lynn made a direct request to the village chief and found a room to sleep in.
After sleeping for about three or four hours,
when Lynn got out of bed again, he was completely refreshed.
This was one of the benefits of a high Intelligence attribute.
Mental fatigue recovered extremely quickly.
He only needed five or six hours of sleep to stay energetic for the entire day.
With Lynn in top form, the goblins around Mossy Hill Village were in for a miserable time.
That night, countless goblins met a tragic end in their sleep.
Every single stray goblin in the entire forest received Lynn's “warm hospitality.”
Having never experienced such “warm treatment” before, they were so touched that they gave Lynn glowing reviews, offering Bloodline Points as a reward.
...
The sun rose, dispersing the morning mist in the forest.
The early bird gets the worm, and the early goblin gets the bird.
Early in the morning, a goblin lay in ambush inside a bush, staring at its prey in a tree.
The stone in the goblin's hand was ready to be thrown, while the bird on the branch looked around, chirping every now and then.
Fragrant meat was right before its eyes, and drool couldn't help but spill from the corner of the goblin's mouth.
But suddenly, a sharp pain pierced the goblin's back.
Looking down, it saw that its heart had been impaled.
“Stealth proficiency +1. Current: Lv.2 (17/20)”
“Kidney Strike proficiency +1. Current: Lv.1 (9/10)”
Behind the goblin, a figure slowly materialized. It was Lynn, exiting his Stealth state.
After a whole night of hard work, Kidney Strike was already on the verge of leveling up.
Honing skills in actual combat seemed to increase proficiency much faster.
However, this skill leveling speed seemed much faster than the “normal speed” Mentor Damon had mentioned.
In this life, he seemed to be extremely talented in the Rogue class.
Even without anyone to teach him, he could comprehend skills on his own through combat, and his proficiency growth rate was countless times faster than that of ordinary people.
At his current rate of improvement, it would only take Lynn a few dozen days to practice Stealth to Lv.5 and reach the threshold for class advancement.
If those ordinary adventurers who had been active for several years without becoming class-holders found out, who knew how envious they would be.
So, am I a genius Rogue?
Lynn thought to himself with a touch of narcissism.
Regardless, it was a good thing.
He wiped the blood off his spear against a tree and tied it back to his waist.
As for the goblin's corpse, Lynn didn't bother with it.
Unless there was a monster outbreak threatening human survival, killing monsters that weren't part of a commission yielded no reward.
And since goblins had absolutely no valuable parts on them aside from quest rewards, there was naturally no need to clean up the body.
Leaving the corpse exposed in the forest like this, wild beasts would eventually follow the scent of blood and eat it.
Stepping out of the forest, Lynn couldn't help but yawn.
After a busy night, he was covered in the heavy stench of blood, which could be smelled from far away.
Fortunately, his efforts throughout the night had paid off.
Last night, Lynn had searched for suitable targets while looking for opportunities to strike.
In the end, while prioritizing his safety, he had successfully killed nine goblins, two of which were Strong Goblins.
He had gained eleven Bloodline Points.
He was now only seven points away from the points needed to activate the 【Goblin Champion】 bloodline.
Just one step away.
“Lynn, you're finally back.”
Although he had returned exactly at the agreed gathering time,
the other adventurers seemed to already be waiting for him.
Greeting Lupa and the others, Lynn climbed into the carriage.
As soon as he got in, drowsiness washed over him.
Having only rested for three or four hours yesterday, he needed another two or three hours of sleep to ensure he had enough energy for the rest of the day.
The Monk couldn't help but ask, “Did you go hunting monsters last night?”
“Yeah.”
The Monk pressed a hand to his forehead.
This was the first time he had ever seen someone with such a peculiar obsession with hunting monsters.
Other low-level adventurers only risked their lives to subjugate monsters for the sake of money.
But Lynn was different.
Even without anyone giving him a quest, he would actively seek out trouble with monsters on his own.
He would even stay up all night without sleep just to kill them!
Lynn was practically like the protagonist of some fantasy novel, possessing a divine blessing that made him stronger every time he killed a monster.
“Get some sleep, Lynn,” Lupa said softly beside him.
Already quite exhausted, Lynn leaned against the carriage window and was soon letting out soft snores.
It seemed he was truly exhausted.
Seeing Lynn's brow furrow slightly in his sleep from the carriage's bumps, Lupa felt a pang of sympathy.
She gently guided Lynn's head to rest on her soft lap.
Lynn seemed to sense something in his dream, and the expression on his face gradually smoothed into a peaceful, baby-like serenity.
Lupa stared at the boy's face, the corners of her mouth curling into a smile—
Until she caught the Monk's teasing smirk.
The beast-girl quickly lowered her head, her drooping ears hiding the flush on her face from the others.
Beside them, Aguda witnessed everything in the carriage but had no idea what was going on.
Scratching his head, he went back to reminiscing about the delicious food the villagers had treated them to in Mossy Hill Village...
It was so good...
Everything was so peaceful.
Until the carriage suddenly came to a halt, the draft horse letting out a loud neigh.
The Monk was the first to pull back the carriage cover.
It didn't seem like the driver had pulled the reins on purpose; rather, the horse had been startled, forcing the carriage to stop.
“What's going on?”
The driver pointed ahead, his voice trembling slightly. “Ahead... there's... there's a monster!”
Having seemingly caught a certain keyword,
Lynn opened his eyes from his slumber.
