Chapter 93 · Volume 1

Please Admit It

“It looks quite nice,” Kaila praised. “Sophie has... prepared a lot too.”
“Too?” Sophie asked, puzzled.
Kaila nodded, pulled out her notebook, and showed it to Sophie.
“What do you mean, ‘too’?”
Sophie’s red eyes instantly lit up as she leaned in close to Kaila.
“The Hero just said, ‘I’m prepared too,’ right?” Sophie spoke at a rapid-fire pace, afraid the other girl would take it back or try to brush it off. “So, what exactly did the Hero prepare for our date today?”
Kaila didn’t argue. She reached her left hand into her grey nun’s habit and slowly pulled out a parchment notebook with worn edges.
This was the notebook she usually used to write letters to Hill or record important commissions.
Kaila flipped the notebook open with one hand and held a page filled with neat, orderly handwriting directly in front of Sophie.
“I prepared... this,” Kaila said flatly.
Sophie leaned in, her heart full of expectation.
The rigid, organized handwriting came into view.
【Inspection and Accompaniment Plan for the Livelihood of Silvervein City Regarding Dangerous Abnormal Individuals】
Looking further down, she saw a detailed plan listed point by point.
【First: Confirm the flow of people and the implementation of the Companion System in the afternoon districts of Silvervein City.】
【Second: Check the sources of suspicious foods such as desserts, holy bread, and Moon Festival offerings.】
【Third: Observe whether cultist connections exist in public entertainment facilities like street performers, illusionists, and bards.】
【Fourth: Patrol high-ground terrain.】
【Fifth: Perform dietary replenishment if necessary.】
The expression on Sophie’s face slowly froze.
She looked up, staring at Kaila in disbelief.
“You call this an inspection plan?” Sophie pointed a finger, pressing it firmly against the parchment.
“This is just people-watching, buying snacks, watching street performers, looking at the scenery from up high, and then having dinner!”
“This is clearly a date guide!” Sophie protested loudly. “And who is this ‘dangerous abnormal individual’ anyway?! Is it me?!”
Kaila calmly took the notebook back, holding a small charcoal pencil.
“It’s you,” Kaila told the truth. “Because I have to... monitor you. So this isn’t a date; it’s a commission.”
Here we go again.
Sophie had no intention of letting her off that easily.
She leaned straight forward.
Swish.
The magical runes on the deep blue vest flashed with a faint blue light. The 【Miss Knight, Please Maintain a Normal Social Distance】 Waist Vest, meticulously woven by the Puppet Witch, instantly took effect.
The vest automatically tightened by half an inch around Sophie’s waist. This sudden tightening caused her body to react instinctively. Her forward step was forced back half a pace, returning her to a proper, reserved social distance.
Sophie: “...”
That bratty sister.
Refusing to give up, she leaned over again, reaching out to grab Kaila’s sleeve.
Unsure of what she was doing, Kaila stood her ground and didn’t move.
The fingers of Sophie’s hand, encased in the 【Not Even the Right Hand】 Right Glove, had just touched the fabric of Kaila’s habit.
The surface of the glove immediately became smoother than if it had been coated in oil. A strange sensation of slipperiness took over, and Sophie’s fingers slid right off Kaila’s cuff with a soft “zip,” grasping nothing but air.
Kaila tilted her head slightly, watching Sophie slide and stumble awkwardly in front of her.
“Is Sophie... dancing?” Kaila asked sincerely.
“I’m expressing my inner urgency,” Sophie growled through gritted teeth. She withdrew her hands and clasped them behind her back, leaning her upper body forward to get her face as close to Kaila’s as possible.
The brim of the light grey-blue soft felt hat immediately sensed the proximity between the two. Just as it was about to lower automatically to block her vision, Sophie moved with lightning speed. She gave her head a sharp toss, forcing her silver-white hair to spill over the edge of the brim. It covered half her face, but it allowed her red eyes to stare directly at Kaila without obstruction.
Those crimson eyes were filled with a mischievous, pushy smile.
“I just want to hear you admit it,” Sophie whispered.
“Admit what?” Kaila asked, confused.
“Admit that this is a date.”
“It’s not.”
“Miss Hero.” Sophie leaned in another inch. Even though the vest at her waist tightened again, she used her core strength to resist the urge to step back.
“It’s not.”
“Kaila!”
Kaila’s fingers, holding the charcoal pencil, paused slightly.
Sophie rarely called her that; she usually referred to her as Miss Hero.
Was she angry?
But Kaila quickly dismissed the thought.
Because Sophie drew out the syllables, her voice becoming saccharine and high-pitched.
“Kai—la—ra—”
“Sophie... stop with that voice,” Kaila said helplessly.
She finally yielded, letting out a soft sigh as she flipped the parchment notebook open again.
She took the charcoal pencil and, with great force, drew a thick, heavy line through the long, evasive title at the top, completely blacking out 【Inspection and Accompaniment Plan for the Livelihood of Silvervein City Regarding Dangerous Abnormal Individuals】.
Then, in the blank space below, she wrote a new line.
【Date with Sophie.】
Sophie looked at the words, her red eyes instantly filling with a satisfied glow.
“Hehe, that’s more like i—”
Before she could finish, Kaila’s pencil didn’t stop.
Behind the word “Date,” Kaila quickly added a parenthesis.
【(Contractual nature.)】
