Chapter 86 · Volume 1

Mother Dragon on the Move

The Duchy of Reny was burning.
Clearly, war had broken out here as well.
And... it had already fallen.
From afar, outside the border city, were countless little green-skinned runts.
Holding crude weapons, they wore either tattered beast skins or nothing at all.
They surged forward one after another, charging into the burning city.
They were the lowest, filthiest fantasy creatures—goblins.
Behind them stood ogres, each over three meters tall, wielding uprooted young trees as weapons.
Most of these behemoths had two heads.
Even more peculiar was that each of their heads had only a single eye.
Whenever a goblin shrank back and tried to flee, these behemoths would snatch them up with their palm-leaf-sized hands and stuff them straight into their mouths...
Followed by a series of chilling, crunchy sounds.
Like chewing on roasted beans.
Behind the goblin fodder and the ogre vanguard followed a diverse array of magical beasts and evil intelligent races.
Among them were giant wombats, manticores...
And even slimes...
All of them were monsters from the Great Gana Forest.
They might have been enemies or friends before.
Or perhaps even natural predators.
Yet, at this moment, they had joined forces.
Amidst the soaring flames were wails and roars!
The remaining military forces of the Duchy of Reny were putting up a desperate resistance.
This sight gave the returning human soldiers an eerie sense of unreality.
It was as if they had never left the battlefield.
Some even pinched themselves hard.
But the sharp pain that followed made them cry out.
Not because the pinch was too painful, but out of grief for their ruined homeland.
And the culprit behind all this was currently perched atop the tallest building in the royal capital of the Duchy of Reny, spreading black wings massive enough to shroud half the city.
And unleashing an overwhelmingly oppressive dragon roar.
“Rumble!”
Under the illumination of lightning snaking across the sky, a thick black mist had enveloped the capital city of the duchy at some point.
In the flashing electric light, one could barely make out that this colossal creature was a—dragon!
Judging by its size, it was at least an adult dragon!
If Irene and Daviel were here, they would be astonished to find...
This was none other than their mother, the black dragon Sylvely!
Watching her vassals busy under the shadow of her wings, hauling chests of treasures and magical artifacts out of the vault one by one...
Sylvely's golden eyes narrowed into crescents, and she let out a series of low chuckles.
Eerie, and quite chilling!
Just moments ago, under the pressure of this adult black dragon, the duchy's last high-end powerhouse—Duke Edliman—had hastily fled using a teleportation scroll.
In other words, this duchy had already changed hands.
Withdrawing her gaze, Sylvely raised her dragon head and looked toward a certain direction shrouded in mist.
It was the direction of the God-Forsaken Land.
When the Duchy of Reny declared war on the God-Forsaken Land, she had already planned to invade this country.
For no other reason than to stretch her bones.
And incidentally, to demand some... compensation from these fellows who had disturbed her sleep.
In the words coined by her rather quirky daughter, it was “‘mental distress compensation.’”
The progress had naturally been exceptionally smooth; she had easily overrun the defenseless duchy.
She just hadn't expected that, according to the information sent back by her vassals, the rising power in the God-Forsaken Land was actually established by the two dragon hatchlings she had kicked out a few years ago!
This naturally came as a surprise to the Mother Dragon.
“You two have certainly given your old mother a wonderful gift!”
Sylvely let out an even more rapid, sinister laugh.
Hearing these eerie laughs, the vassals hauling the treasure couldn't help but shudder.
They hurried their movements even more.
Terrified that a second's delay would displease this evil dragon.
Though from a dragon's perspective, Sylvely's current sinister smile looked more like a noble lady covering her mouth and giggling.
Carrying a touch of elegance.
After laughing for a moment, Sylvely suddenly fell silent.
The trace of maternal affection in her eyes instantly turned into vigilance and ferocity.
She stretched her neck and turned her gaze in another direction.
From that direction, an incredibly powerful pressure was rapidly approaching, accompanied by the sonic booms of tearing air!
