After successfully wiping out the mutated murlocs, Lucia's massive green dragon form gradually shrank amid a series of crackling sounds, eventually returning to her original human form.
Adjusting the green corseted dress that had materialized as she shrank, the green-haired lady muttered under her breath,
“These pests... they talk way too much for creatures on the verge of death.”
Rumble—
No sooner had the words left her mouth than the ground began to shudder violently.
Powerful tremors rippled through the city ruins from all directions, kicking up thick clouds of dust that billowed into the air.
The dust clouds surged toward them like massive tidal waves, advancing at an alarming speed.
As the dust drew closer, the shrieks, roars, and bizarre whispers growing within it became clearer and louder.
With their enhanced vision, Irene and her companions could clearly see what lay ahead.
What was sweeping toward them from all sides was no mere dust storm.
It was an endless, roiling tide of mutated creatures!
“Something's wrong,”
Irene muttered under her breath, her brow furrowing slightly.
Based on what they had experienced so far, the mere aftershocks of their brief skirmish shouldn't have drawn such an overwhelming number of mutants.
She couldn't help but recall the muttered words of the mutated Kuo-toa from moments ago...
“The dragon Master wants... The black dragon...”
As she pondered, Arthas's voice, steady and cold, cut through her thoughts.
“Mother... do we fight?”
As he spoke, he drew Frostmourne from his back, bracing himself for a fight to the death.
Christine and Lucia also turned their gazes toward her. The two dragons quietly waited for Irene's decision.
They had clearly come to view this deceptively young-looking little dragon girl as their leader.
Irene did not answer immediately.
Instead, her gaze swept over the heavily corroded ruins of the wall where the mutated murlocs had gathered earlier.
Her sharp eyes seemed to pierce through the obstacles, spotting two figures hiding behind the rubble.
After a brief pause, she turned her attention to a highly conspicuous, circular pit in the center of the ruins.
Judging by the splattered flesh, severed limbs, and layers of dried and fresh blood staining the rim,
the pit likely led to a creature's lair, or perhaps... a gruesome larder.
Realizing a certain possibility, Irene leaped forward, breaking away from the slimes huddling fearfully around her, and landed at the edge of the pit.
Peering into the abyss, she listened to the approaching cacophony. Without another moment of hesitation, she plunged straight into the pit.
Arthas, Lucia, and Christine were momentarily stunned by her sudden action.
After exchanging a brief, tense look, Lucia and Sarthas both ran toward the bloody, flesh-strewn pit.
As for the white dragon Christine, he ran toward the group of slimes.
He ushered them along, and they all scrambled toward the pit together...
Once the three of them had vanished into the darkness, and the very last slime had leaped in after a brief hesitation,
Vina and Laya, who had been hiding the entire time, finally showed themselves.
Looking at the massive horde of mutants closing in from all directions, the two exchanged a quick glance and bolted toward the pit.
Just before the leading mutants could grab them, they leaped, plunging into the deep, dark abyss.
Seeing this, the surrounding mutants suddenly stopped dead in their tracks.
They crowded around the edge of the circular pit.
Their densely packed bodies stretched back as far as the eye could see, completely filling the ruins of the city.
“They went down.”
“Yes, they went down.”
“Master is down there.”
“Will Master like this sacrifice?”
“Master will definitely like it...”
“Master... hates dragons the most...”
“Master will definitely make them... just like us...”
