“Ugh~ So ugly... What on earth are these things?” Christine, in his elven form, poked his head out from behind the wall they were using for cover, covering his mouth and whispering.
“Lady Charlotte, I believe I can answer that question for you.”
Also poking his head out to watch, standing slightly taller, Arthas let a cold light flash in his eyes beneath the visor of his helmet.
“They appear to be a pack of Kuo-toa... Yes, Kuo-toa that have clearly undergone mutation.”
“There's no need to discuss something so obvious so loudly! I'm talking about you two! ...Keep your voices down, don't let them spot us!”
Lucia, whose head was poking out directly beneath the other two, rolled her eyes and warned them.
At this moment, the three of them were positioned on one side of a half-collapsed wall, watching vigilantly.
Behind the three of them, Irene sat on a pile of rubble, her legs bent, propping her chin up with one hand as she boredly poked at the slimes gathered in a circle around her.
Further away, in the direction they were observing, the once-bustling sacrificial site had now become much emptier.
Mutated Kuo-toa crawled on all fours, clustering together as they stared warily toward one side of a palace-like building that had mostly collapsed.
Scattered around were seven or eight corpses of mutated Kuo-toa, burned beyond recognition like charcoal, clearly having lost their breath long ago.
The rich aroma of roasted meat and wisps of black smoke rising from them proved they had only recently met their demise.
“It looks like... those two little thieves are surrounded...” Having grown bored of playing with the slimes, Irene slowly stood up. She kicked away a blue slime that was trying to jump up and hug her leg, then looked at the three heads stacked vertically like a candied hawthorn skewer poking out from the side of the wall. In a flat tone, she said,
“So, you three, should we take a detour? ...Or should we charge straight in, clean up this pack of ugly ‘mermaids,’ and capture those two little thieves while we're at it?”
“Of course... if you also want to rescue those drow, that is fine too.”
Hearing this, Arthas was the first to react.
The black-armored lich stood up straight and turned around.
“Mother, I believe those two are highly likely the ones who have been erasing the markers left by the expeditionary force, preventing us from reuniting. It is highly necessary to capture and interrogate them.”
“Exactly! I think so too!” Christine chimed in immediately.
As he spoke, the atypical white dragon in elven form narrowed his eyes. Staring at the scene not far away, he shook his little fist vigorously, looking ready to charge into battle at any moment.
“Since you put it that way, what are you waiting for!”
Lucia was the last to speak. The green dragon in human form let out a sinister grin. Perhaps wanting to show off, she winked at Irene, who was watching from behind, before leaping out from behind the sheltering wall first.
Her seductive, mature body began to warp and swell in midair.
With a thunderous crash, the human-form Lucia transformed back into her true self.
A massive mature adult green dragon abruptly appeared in this special sacrificial area, manifesting before the eyes of the drow trapped in cages, and right behind the large number of mutated Kuo-toa.
