As the golden light expanded, the black vortex began to tremble violently, as if it might collapse at any moment.
The black vortex held its shape for less than a second before it could no longer maintain itself. Forced outward by the golden light until it had expanded several times its original size, it finally shattered into a rain of light that filled the sky.
Following a thunderous explosion, a shrill, agonizing scream that seemed unearthly echoed through the heavens. The atmosphere for several kilometers vibrated with the sound; people were forced to cover their ears, yet they still could not block out the piercing shriek.
As the golden rain gradually dissipated, the shattered and mangled form of the Void Demon was revealed to everyone.
The face she had taken from Erica was now mostly melted away. Her entire body was covered in fissures of varying sizes, which were eerily leaking black gas.
In the center of her chest, a transparent, basketball-sized hole was clearly visible. Golden light flickered intensely within it, as if some power were relentlessly eroding the very source of her life.
The Void Demon beat at her chest frantically, trying to use her scarred arms to block the overflowing golden light, her eyes filled with resentment and rage.
Even as she exhausted every means to gather the scattered Void Energy to heal her wounds, it was all in vain.
No matter how hard she tried, she could not extinguish the light pouring from her chest. Every time the surrounding black energy began to concentrate, it was interrupted by an inexplicable force and vanished before her eyes.
Gradually, her body began to twist and deform under the rampaging energy. She could no longer maintain her beautiful, seductive humanoid form, and in its place, a black sphere began to swell and bloat.
At this moment, the Void Demon's power appeared incredibly fragile. Her entire body was riddled with openings, seemingly unable to withstand any attack.
Midir stared intently at the swelling black figure, his eyes flashing with a look of resolve. Although he did not know where the golden light had come from, he was clearly not going to pass up this perfect opportunity to eliminate her.
He currently had only two ways to completely annihilate the Void Demon before him. The simplest was to use a massive amount of light element to purify her, but when Midir attempted to do so, he found that as soon as the light element approached her, the flickering golden light would devour it entirely.
Left with no other choice, Midir waved his hand to signal the people on the wall to move away. He took a deep breath, gathered all his strength, and hurled a massive orb of white-gold Destruction Flame toward the black figure that had bloated to its limit.
This time, the golden light did not devour the approaching Destruction Flame. On the contrary, under the illumination of the white fire, the golden glow grew even more dazzling, as if it had established some kind of resonance with the Destruction Flame.
As the two forces drew closer, an indescribable and wondrous reaction occurred in the air. Everything in the vicinity seemed to lose its original color and outline at that moment, becoming blurred and ethereal.
The Void Demon’s once-massive spherical body was silently and completely annihilated by an invisible force, reduced to fundamental particles that vanished into nothingness.
All that remained before Midir’s eyes was a slowly rotating white-gold sphere. It emitted a mysterious light, appearing to contain the purest power in the universe.
However, after consuming the Void Demon, the sphere of light did not stop expanding; instead, it continued to grow slowly.
The surrounding space seemed to be warped by it. Anything that touched the sphere vanished without a trace in an instant.
Seeing this, Midir was horrified. He quickly raised both hands, attempting to mobilize the mana in his body to curb the spread of the light sphere.
But as he actually began to do so, he realized that controlling the sphere’s momentum was no simple task. He had thought that since it contained the Destruction Flame he had released, he would have some measure of control, but the mutation occurring before him was completely beyond his understanding.
“Sigh... it seems you haven't finished it yet?”
A low, slightly regretful sigh sounded in Midir’s ear. He jerked his head around to see the red-haired man had appeared silently beside him. It seemed the energy capable of annihilating everything held no threat to him at all.
The man gently placed a hand on Midir’s shoulder, and a warm, pure energy instantly surged through his palm and into Midir’s body.
This power was both strange and familiar, leaving Midir feeling surprised and confused. He could not identify which power system it belonged to, but deep in his heart, he felt a vague sense of familiarity.
With the man’s assistance, the sphere that had been rampaging in the air finally began to settle. Under Midir’s control, it slowly shrank until it turned into a tiny speck of light and completely vanished from everyone’s sight.
The Void Demon, who should have possessed supreme power, had completely dissipated along with that sphere. All that remained was a smooth crater over a hundred meters in diameter carved out of the wall and the blood scattered across the ground, serving as a grim reminder of the fierce battle that had just taken place.
Midir had exhausted nearly all his strength. Now that he could finally relax, an indescribable sense of fatigue washed over him like a tide surging from the depths of his soul, threatening to drown him.
It was the first time he felt his entire body protesting in silence; every muscle and every bone seemed to be speaking of his exhaustion and weariness.
On the edge of his fading consciousness, Midir felt as though he were being gently lifted by a tender force and then slowly set down.
He struggled to open his eyes. Through his blurred vision, a familiar figure appeared—it was Aila, rushing toward him from the distance, her face etched with worry and anxiety.
However, his vision was quickly swallowed by darkness. Midir’s eyelids closed heavily as he fell into a deep slumber.
...
In his dazed state, Midir felt as if he had stepped into a strange and tranquil dimension. His entire body was gently enveloped by a warm, soft power, as if he were soaking in a boundless hot spring. All his fatigue and worry dissipated.
The air here was filled with faint rose-red energy fluctuations. They swirled gently around Midir like fine silk brushing against his skin, bringing him an indescribable sense of comfort and peace.
Midir tried to investigate the nature of this energy, but his body involuntarily sank into this relaxation, his curiosity dissolved by the warmth.
“Hmm... another type of energy I haven't felt before. What is this? Forget it... it doesn't matter. It doesn't seem harmful to me anyway. I'll just rest for a while.”
Just as he was enjoying the massage provided by the energy that felt like gentle ripples of water, a soft and blurry voice quietly spoke. it seemed to originate from all directions, yet also seemed to exist only in his heart.
The voice had no clear gender characteristics, yet it carried an unquestionable sense of guidance.
“Go back. It is not yet time. Go back...”
Midir struggled to catch the source of the voice, but it was like a breeze brushing across a lake, leaving only ripples and no trace of its presence. He looked around, but everything in his sight remained a void.
“Go back... Go back...”
As the echoes in his ears grew stronger, Midir’s body involuntarily sank toward the bottom of the space. The originally soft rose-red light also began to fade, eventually merging into a deep darkness.
Midir wanted to reach out and grab the speck of red light above him, but he was suddenly hit by a sense of weightlessness. He felt as if his entire being were caught in a spinning vortex, falling into a bottomless abyss.
