Chapter 88 · Volume 1

Influence and Conversation

Zhu Weiliang didn't answer the phone; instead, he opened his bedroom door.
A white-haired young man in white clothes, with his hair tied in a small ponytail, stood outside.
He said excitedly, “Dad, make your move now! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! The world must ultimately belong to the Zhu family!”
Zhu Weiliang was not swayed by his son's words. He picked up the call from the garrison commander.
The commander reported everything that had happened.
“Your Majesty, the surveillance cameras have captured the killer. This was all done by the Liu family. Right now, there are no high-ranking officials left in the Capital who can make decisions. Please, Your Majesty, step forward and take control of the situation,” the commander's voice came through the phone.
But Zhu Weiliang was not pleased. Instead, a cold sweat broke out on his back. If my Zhu family were the ones in power today, wouldn't that mean I would have been the one killed?
The commander on the other end of the line urged, “Your Majesty, please step forward and take charge. The Capital cannot do without you!”
Zhu Weiliang immediately refused, “General Li, you should secure the Capital first. As for taking charge of the situation, we'll have to wait until the various high-ranking officials arrive in the Capital tomorrow.”
With that, without giving the other party a chance to speak, he hung up the phone.
Zhu Houwen, who had been listening from the side, suddenly grew anxious. “Dad, what are you doing? This is such a great opportunity! General Li is actively offering his allegiance to us. As long as we seize the initiative, even if we can't dominate the situation when the new councilmen are appointed later, our Zhu family can still secure a seat.”
Listening to his son ramble on and on, Zhu Weiliang glared at him with some annoyance. “If you want to die, don't drag your father down with you! The Liu family is clearly targeting those in power. Who knows what they're thinking, or if they've even left the Capital? If your father steps forward to take charge now, they might just slice your father up as well!”
With the situation still unclear, he didn't want to stick his neck out. Those councilmen had been guarded by so many elites, yet they were wiped out without a sound.
If a powerless emperor like him dared to take the stage, he would probably die even faster than they did.
Hearing Zhu Weiliang's words, the hot-headed Zhu Houwen instantly calmed down.
He looked at his father, somewhat puzzled. “Then are we not going to fight for it?”
“Fight? Why wouldn't we? Although those five councilmen have many family members in key positions, will their subordinates really let this opportunity for a meteoric rise slip by?” Zhu Weiliang said calmly.
Securing a seat as a councilman was truly a meteoric rise.
There were far too many people below the councilmen who were qualified to fight for it.
While the Capital was in complete chaos, far away in Yangcheng, Wang Hai and Song Lianhu, who had just returned to rest, were called to Lu Senyu's room.
The moment they entered, they saw Lu Senyu packing his things.
“Minister, why did you call us here?” Wang Hai asked, looking puzzled.
“A major crisis has occurred in the Capital. I need to head back. I'll leave you two in charge here,” Lu Senyu said.
With a bag on his back, he strode out, leaving the two of them standing there dumbfounded.
Even a burly man like Song Lianhu couldn't help but ask, “What's wrong with the boss? He's not trying to run away, is he?”
Wang Hai ignored him and took out his phone.
As intelligence officers, since Lu Senyu had received the news, they would surely receive it soon as well.
Sure enough, the moment he turned on his phone, a call came in. It was from a trusted subordinate he had left in the Capital.
In a guesthouse in the eastern suburbs of Yangcheng.
Tang Yongyun held his phone, which displayed messages from his subordinates regarding the events in the Capital.
Behind him, to his left and right, Buck and Jiang Nan were leaning over the sofa, looking at Tang Yongyun's phone.
Buck looked shocked. “Are they trying to overthrow the Nanming Kingdom? Oh my god, Boss, should we go back and overthrow the Goro government too? You can be the Emperor, I'll be the Commander, and Jiang Nan can be the Prime Minister!”
The more he spoke, the more excited he became. With Goro Island's weak force of only a hundred thousand or so soldiers, they really could pull it off.
Hearing this, Tang Yongyun couldn't help but glance at him. “There are tens of millions of civilians there. If we take over, won't they just become a burden to us? Try to think of something more sensible in the future.”
When the families of the five councilmen were slaughtered, too many agents and soldiers had deployed, making it impossible to keep the matter hidden from anyone actively looking into it.
He had only spent a few hundred thousand to get the full story of what happened from an agent.
“Boss, is the Liu family trying to take control of the Nanming Kingdom? If they seize control of the government, it will be very disadvantageous for our upcoming struggle,” Jiang Nan said with a serious expression.
They weren't afraid of either the government or the Liu family individually, but if the two combined, it could easily cause some real trouble.
“It doesn't matter. If the elites of the Nanming Kingdom dare to help the Liu family, then I don't mind taking a trip to the Capital myself,” Tang Yongyun said nonchalantly.
Then he turned to look at the corner, where the trench coat and mask were hanging. “Buck, you'll be using the mask and trench coat. It's already dawn. I assume you've rested enough. It's time to get to work.”
Hearing this, a smile appeared on Buck's face. “With my physical fitness and these items, I'll definitely be stronger than that kid.”
Hearing this, Jiang Nan couldn't help but chime in, “Oh, please. Just be careful not to end up handing back the items we worked so hard to snatch.”
Buck ignored her, grinning as he went to put on the mask and trench coat.
Tang Yongyun stood up and turned to Jiang Nan. “Jiang Nan, you will continue to be in charge of logistics and intelligence.”
“Yes!” Jiang Nan nodded.
“It's been a few days since we arrived here. It's time for me to pay a visit to Mr. Zhao,” Tang Yongyun said as he turned and walked out.
He still had some doubts in his heart regarding the Lord of Evil matter.
After all, in his mind, Zhao Jin was hardly some kind-hearted soul who would hand out supernatural items and grant wishes to others for free.
Time moved to seven in the morning. No battles had occurred in Yangcheng during the latter half of the night.
Just as the sun was rising, at the top of the tallest skyscraper in Yangcheng.
Zhao Jin sat motionlessly, watching the sun.
There was still some white mist near the high floors. The sunlight pierced through the white mist, casting a golden glow onto Zhao Jin's face.
In the sky, a crow was circling.
The crow stared down at Zhao Jin. After circling for a few minutes, it landed beside him.
“Mr. Zhao, I have been in Yangcheng for many days, but only found the time to visit you today. I hope you do not mind,” the crow said, looking at Zhao Jin with a respectful tone.
Zhao Jin didn't even look at it, continuing to watch the rising sun. “It is fine. I will not interfere in whatever you do. On the contrary, you have done quite well with the task I entrusted to you.”
“The task you entrusted to me has always been my most important priority. Even after coming to Yangcheng, I have still been keeping an eye on it,” the crow replied politely.
Hearing its words, Zhao Jin smiled. He reached into his robes, pulled out a red crystal, and placed it before the crow.
Looking at the sun, he said calmly, “This is the Butcher's power. Originally, I planned to give it to you after the Lord of Evil event ended. Since you are here now, take it. This is your reward for spreading the word of Jesus.”
Looking at the crystal filled with special energy, the crow did not show much emotion. “Rather than the reward, I am more concerned about whether you will truly yield the wish to someone else if all the Lord of Evil's items are gathered.”
This matter was of utmost importance. If Zhao Jin did not want it, then he would put everything on the line.
“No. This wish can only be mine. Of course, if my creations gather them all, I can grant you an opportunity to evolve. After all, before the Lord of Evil was unsealed, it also went through a battle for possession. I hope you will give it your all,” Zhao Jin's lips curled up slightly.
His words were very direct. The gap in strength was so vast that he didn't even bother with useless talk, going straight to offering incentives.
Within Yangcheng, his only creations were Tang Yongyun, Liu Wen, and Lin Yuanshan.
The rest were creations of his creations, whom he couldn't be bothered to care about.
To Zhao Jin, these few individuals were like works of art. He wanted to see to what extent they would evolve, and whether they would have the chance to reach the realm of gods.
“I understand. Since those are your words, Mr. Zhao, I will give it my all,” the crow nodded.
It looked at Zhao Jin. “My doubts have been resolved. In that case, Mr. Zhao, I shall take my leave first.”
With that, it picked up the Sequence crystal from the ground with its beak and flew up into the sky.
Zhao Jin watched the departing crow with a calm expression. My currently sole Unique Unit, I hope you can go far. After all, creating a god still brings me a great sense of accomplishment.
Although the Earth Mother was a god, she was not created by him from scratch, which always felt a bit lacking.
What he wanted was to observe a creature's path to godhood. Currently, Tang Yongyun and Liu Wen showed the most promise.
