Chapter 43 · Volume 1

Doom

“Understood!”
“Roger that!”
Behind Tang Yongyun, the corners of Buck and Jiang Nan's mouths curled up, revealing sinister grins.
Swoosh!
Jiang Nan drew two daggers from her lower back and strode toward Kit. She had long been sick of this white pig.
Buck pulled off his gloves, revealing pitch-black claws.
Marcus sneered as he watched the two step forward. “Very well. I don't know what you're thinking, actually daring to make a move!”
“Kill them! Spare Tang, but kill the other two!” Kit stood up and barked.
The moment the words left his mouth—
Thud, thud, thud!
Rapid footsteps echoed from outside. Dozens of bodyguards drew their handguns and rushed toward the conference room.
The two bodyguards closest to the door immediately raised their pistols and aimed them at Buck and Jiang Nan.
Bang! Bang!
Two loud explosions rang out as their pistols unexpectedly backfired. The gunpowder blew the guns apart, and jagged metal fragments sliced across both of their necks.
Splurt!
Their arteries were severed, and a torrent of blood sprayed out.
A bodyguard behind them stared wide-eyed at the scene. “What the hell?!”
He raised his gun and quickly stepped to the doorway, preparing to fire.
“Ugh!” A sudden, excruciating pain seized his chest. His eyes rolled back, and he collapsed, dying of sudden cardiac arrest on the spot.
“What is wrong with you guys?!” Seeing their comrades die in such bizarre, inexplicable ways, the bodyguards rushing up behind them stopped in their tracks, faces pale with terror.
“Ahhh!” Suddenly, a bodyguard in the middle of the corridor screamed in agony.
Whoosh!
Just as the people around him turned to look, he spontaneously combusted, flames instantly engulfing his entire body.
At this moment, sheer terror gripped all the bodyguards.
One bodyguard turned around, desperate to flee.
Thud!
He suddenly slipped. His body pitched forward, and his head slammed violently against the floor. After a brief convulsion, he quickly stopped breathing.
Gasp!” Another bodyguard gasped in shock at the sight, but when he tried to exhale, he found he couldn't draw any breath.
His face rapidly turned blue. He looked around, trying to beg for help, but everyone around him was already suffering from various bizarre afflictions of their own.
Bang!
Before the bodyguard next to him could even pull the trigger, his gun exploded. Shrapnel sliced into the blood vessels of several nearby men, causing blood to pour out in torrents.
In that narrow corridor, dozens of bodyguards had all collapsed and died in less than five seconds.
Meanwhile, inside the room, just as the other bodyguards were drawing their weapons...
Buck suddenly blurred into an afterimage, lunging at the bodyguards on the left.
Slash!
Before the first bodyguard could even see who hit him, his vision began to spin rapidly. Why is the world spinning? he wondered in utter confusion.
Thud!
Only when his perspective crashed heavily onto the floor and a familiar headless corpse came into view did he realize his head had been severed.
Behind him, Buck's speed exploded to its absolute limit. Even these highly trained bodyguards couldn't keep up with him.
To them, he was nothing but a blur. They pulled their guns and fired blindly at the afterimage.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Splat!
“Ah!”
“Ugh!”
Gunfire and agonizing screams echoed in rapid succession. They couldn't hit Buck at all. His pitch-black claws swept across the bodyguards' necks and heads in rapid, lethal strokes.
Before the blood could even spray, he was already lunging at the next target.
Seated at the table, Marcus, Kit, and the other two old men, who had been expecting to watch a show, went pale. Their expressions twisted into utter disbelief.
In less than two seconds, the dozen or so bodyguards on the left had all fallen.
On the right, the remaining bodyguards hadn't even had a chance to fire.
“Caw!” The harsh cry of a crow echoed from outside the window.
Crash! Crash! Crash!
The window glass behind them shattered as a dozen crows burst through at supersonic speeds, piercing straight through the bodyguards on the right.
Thud! Thud!
The sound of bodies hitting the floor rang out continuously. In less than ten seconds from start to finish, every single bodyguard inside the castle was dead.
Kit stared at the scene, his face completely devoid of color. “What the fuck are you guys? How can crows kill people like that?!”
He felt as if his entire world was collapsing. Were these people even human?!
As he spoke, Jiang Nan had already closed the distance. Her face was cold. “A piece of trash like you doesn't need to know.”
Looking at Jiang Nan and then at the dead bodyguards, Kit knew there was no way out. In a desperate move, he grabbed a coffee cup from the table and hurled it at her.
Crack!
Jiang Nan's right leg whipped out like a coiled spring, delivering a brutal, upward kick right between Kit's legs. A sickening crunch echoed from his groin.
Kit's face turned purple. Unable to even let out a scream, he instantly collapsed to his knees.
Jiang Nan grabbed him by the hair with one hand and pressed a dagger against his throat.
She looked up at Marcus, who was sitting at the head of the table. “Old geezer, did you really think we came back to hand over money to you?”
Slice!
With a swift, violent pull of her blade right before Marcus's eyes, she severed Kit's head clean off.
Blood sprayed, dyeing Jiang Nan's black clothes crimson. Wearing a bizarre, unsettling smile, she tossed Kit's head toward Marcus.
Thud!
The head landed right in front of Marcus. Staring into Kit's wide, lifeless eyes, he bolted upright, unable to conceal his terror. “Tang, what are you doing?! I am your elder! Even your adoptive father wouldn't have dared treat me like this when he was alive!”
Jero and the old man in the striped suit were equally horrified. They had never expected supernatural beings to actually exist.
Before this, they had suspected that the videos coming out of Ningcheng were fake.
The old man in the striped suit had a look of desperate defiance. “Marcus, we haven't lost yet! We still have our men outside!”
With that, he rushed to the window. Ignoring the glass shards scratching his hands, he pushed the window open, preparing to call for backup.
But the moment he opened his mouth, the words caught in his throat.
His eyes widened, his pupils shrinking to pinpricks. “Th-this... how is this possible...”
“Caw!”
“Caw!”
Outside on the street, hundreds of crows were circling in the air.
Below, the armed personnel they had deployed were all dead on the ground, their bodies riddled with a dozen fist-sized bloody holes.
Squelch!
Suddenly, a dagger plunged into his left temple. The old man in the striped suit convulsed and collapsed.
Standing behind him, Jiang Nan let go of the hilt. “Clown.”
Tang Yongyun pulled out a chair and sat down, calmly looking at Marcus. “Save your breath. Even when my adoptive father was alive, you wouldn't have dared treat me like this.”
Splat!
With a single thought, a crow shot forward, piercing straight through Marcus's head.
Marcus's eyes remained wide open as he fell straight backward. Now, the only ones left in the conference room were the three of them and Jero.
Jero squeezed out a smile that looked uglier than crying. “Tang, don't kill me! I'm still useful! I can transfer all of their shares to you!”
Crack!
Buck stepped up behind him and delivered a brutal slap to his head, caving in a large portion of Jero's skull.
He sneered. “You old fool, you really are getting stupider as you age. Once we kill you all and wipe out your entire families, the shares will belong to our boss anyway!”
“Buck, take another trip later and send their families to join them. Jiang Nan, go to the Syndicate and have them promote this at all costs.” Tang Yongyun began assigning tasks.
He reached into his coat, pulled out the story of Jesus that Zhao Jin had given him, and placed it on the table.
“Understood!” Jiang Nan grabbed the paper and turned to leave.
Tang Yongyun stood up and walked to the window, gazing outside.
He wanted to return to Ningcheng now. His intuition told him that something major was about to happen there.
