Chapter 38 · Volume 1

The Layout, the Earth Mother and Jesus

While the outside world was in chaos over the incident with the Butcher...
Zhao Jin sat on the sofa and opened his “borrowed” laptop.
“No, this one is too slow.”
“This one is too weak,” Zhao Jin muttered, his mouse scrolling through the web pages as he searched for a new monster biography.
It wasn't until the sun rose outside that his eyes locked onto a certain title.
【The Character That Appears in the Mythologies of Every Nation: The Earth Mother!】
The Destiny Force on this post was countless times more concentrated than even the Butcher’s.
Zhao Jin clicked on it to investigate.
The Earth Mother.
A monster born from the fusion of countless consciousness entities, faith, and corpses.
Any living being that witnesses the Earth Mother will suffer a mental breakdown due to her immense power, leading to a mutation where they become a part of her.
“The Earth Mother’s profile is currently the most suitable for Ningcheng. As long as it's arranged properly, the Destiny Force I gain will experience explosive growth.” Zhao Jin closed the laptop, a new plan already forming in his mind.
The consciousness entities and faith could be collected by Liu Wen, and as for the corpses, they had already been prepared.
The incubation period for the virus spread by the Miasma was nearing its end; when the time came, a massive influx of corpses would appear.
Among all the monsters he had searched for, this was the entity that could bring him a massive amount of Destiny Force in a relatively short period of time.
With that thought, he immediately sprang into action.
Early in the morning, outside the attic where Liu Wen resided, not a soul was in sight. The surrounding environment carried an inexplicable sense of oppression.
In front of the attic, space rippled slightly.
Zhao Jin appeared out of thin air. He looked at the attic before him with a calm expression. “Liu Wen.”
Click!
Hearing the movement outside, the wooden door of the attic swung open, revealing the darkness within.
Within that darkness, pairs of crimson eyes appeared.
Step, step, step!
The sound of footsteps echoed from the dark as Liu Wen walked out, draped in a long black robe.
His six eyes looked at Zhao Jin as he said respectfully, “What brings you here? Had I known you were coming, I would have arranged for a proper welcome.”
He hadn't expected Zhao Jin to take the initiative to meet him after their encounter at the hospital, and he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.
Zhao Jin looked at Liu Wen with a faint smile. “I’ve come because I have a few matters I’d like you to handle.”
Hearing this, Liu Wen’s face lit up with excitement. “It is my honor that you have a task for me! I will treat it as the most important mission of my life!”
Zhao Jin observed the expression on his face and said calmly, “Weren't you planning to establish a Church to harvest souls recently? I was thinking, how about calling it the Church of the Earth Mother?”
“The Church of the Earth Mother? If that is your wish, I will certainly follow it.” To Liu Wen, it was just a name change; it wasn't a big deal.
However, the name did feel somewhat familiar to him.
Zhao Jin looked at him and continued, “Not just the name. I want your doctrine to strictly follow the one described in the online Earth Mother biography. Furthermore, ninety percent of the consciousness you absorb must be set aside for me.”
The excitement on Liu Wen’s face froze. He was starting a Church to further his own evolution, not to work for someone else’s benefit.
Seeing his reaction, Zhao Jin narrowed his eyes and smiled. “Of course, I’m not someone who expects others to work for nothing. As long as the job is done well, I will grant you an evolution afterward—one that is far more powerful than what you would gain from merely absorbing consciousness!”
Hearing Zhao Jin’s promise, Liu Wen quickly lowered his head. “Yes, I will certainly handle this matter for you. It’s just that I cannot keep that much consciousness stored within my body for too long.”
“Don’t worry. Once your Church steps into the spotlight, I will provide you with something to store the consciousness.” After saying that, Zhao Jin’s figure vanished from the spot.
This Earth Mother was different from the Butcher. If things weren't handled carefully, it would be very easy for the opposition to resort to nuclear strikes.
Indeed, once this entity truly manifested, the authorities of the Nanming Kingdom would definitely panic, for the Earth Mother was an evil god!
After Zhao Jin left, Liu Wen took out his phone and searched for the Church of the Earth Mother online.
Soon, he found the relevant posts.
The more he read, the more shocked Liu Wen became. His six eyes widened involuntarily. “Hiss! Is he planning to manifest an evil god???”
With the Butcher as a precedent, he didn't doubt for a second that Zhao Jin could pull it off.
In this moment, he felt like a model student compared to Zhao Jin.
However, he also felt that this was an opportunity. To handle matters for Zhao Jin was to cling tightly to a powerful backer.
With that thought, he sent a message to Liu Jiyun.
At nine in the morning, inside Tang Yongyun’s villa.
He leaned back in his seat, resting with his eyes closed. Ever since becoming a Doom Crow, he only needed one hour of sleep per day.
Beep, beep, beep!
His phone chimed with a message notification. He opened his eyes; this was his private phone, and very few people knew the number.
He picked it up and saw only one text: “Meet me at Sanfu Restaurant.”
Looking at the unsigned message, Tang Yongyun frowned. “Who is it? How did they get this number?”
“Buck, get the car ready. I need to head out,” Tang Yongyun said without looking back.
“Right away, boss!” Buck’s voice came from behind him.
Sanfu Restaurant was one of the Sanhai Gang’s strongholds.
In the outskirts, Tang Yongyun appeared at the entrance of an ordinary two-story street-side restaurant.
Behind him, Buck pulled up to the curb in a white sedan.
He glanced inside. The two gang members responsible for guarding the place were lying on the floor, though they were still breathing.
In a corner of the restaurant sat a figure wearing a fedora, with their back turned toward him.
Upon seeing that silhouette, Tang Yongyun’s gaze sharpened. He quickly pushed the door open and walked in. “Mr. Zhao!”
“Mm, you’re here. Sit.” Zhao Jin was looking down, writing something, and didn't look up at him.
Tang Yongyun sat down across from Zhao Jin.
At the bar, the television was broadcasting the events from the previous day.
“This is Ningcheng TV. Yesterday, a major explosion occurred at Ningcheng Central Plaza, resulting in thirty-nine casualties. Currently, the inspector and fire departments have intervened to investigate!” On the screen, a middle-aged female host spoke with a serious expression.
The official narrative for the events at the plaza was that an explosion accident had occurred.
Zhao Jin listened to the news, looking down at the white paper covered in text. “You snatched the Butcher’s corpse yesterday. I imagine Minister Lu of the Security Bureau is going to be furious.”
Across from him, Tang Yongyun sat with a straight back. He said respectfully, “If you need the Butcher’s corpse, I can have it delivered to you.”
“No need. Being able to snatch it was your own skill,” Zhao Jin chuckled.
He looked up at Tang Yongyun. The Destiny Force above the man’s head was already comparable to the Butcher’s; clearly, this fellow’s rate of progress was terrifying.
He pushed the white paper across the table. “I’ve called you here because I want you to spread this biography.”
Tang Yongyun looked down at the paper. “Jesus? Is this a mythological story you wrote?”
“Correct. This matter is very important to me. Of course, I won’t have you work for nothing. As long as the results meet expectations, I will provide appropriate rewards,” Zhao Jin said.
Although he had changed the destinies of Liu Wen and Tang Yongyun, and both currently respected him immensely, he never trusted anyone based on gratitude alone. In his view, gratitude eventually ran out.
Only interests were eternal. If helping him benefited everyone, then they would put their hearts into the task.
“I understand. I will focus on promoting this story,” Tang Yongyun promised without asking for a reason.
Seeing this, Zhao Jin’s figure began to slowly fade. “I will await your results. Before that, deal with your own troubles first.”
Watching Zhao Jin vanish, Tang Yongyun stood up and looked outside. “Troubles? This is merely a minor distraction.”
He walked outside, feeling a faint sense of being watched. Tang Yongyun didn't care.
He walked toward the car where Buck was waiting.
